Piano Wire Landing Gear

Having come to nearly the conclusion of my Rans S9 Chaos build, (Peter Miller - Oct 2020 rcm&e) i am after some advice as to how to go about bending and soldering together the landing gear that i wish to make myself from piano wire. This is my first build, so any advice from you experienced builders would be much appreciated!

I just use a hefty pair of pliers. Wrap thin copper wire round the joints to take the solder. I also make a wooden jig replica of the fuselage bottom, to aid soldering

Thanks Dwain! And what type of soldering iron do you use? Something substantial I presume?

What gauge wire is it? Vice would be preferable to pliers, if you have one. Pliers are a bit, well, you need strong hands to get accurate bends.

 

I usually use a torch for soldering gear. Bind the legs together with copper wire from some 3A twin & earth.

 

edit: I see this one uses a torque rod type gear - no soldering necessary.

Thanks Nigel. I'll get some twin and earth wire and use my vice. Although no soldering is necessary on this build, I would like to create something scale like on a cub.
