  1. i started off with the arising star was a good plane unfortunatly suffered alot of hangar rash though
  2. i was down shakespear raceway at the weekend (Long Marsdon) hello to anyone that flys models up near the finish line of the track)  i go for the old fords really as im building a 1967 Anglia for racing but its allways good to see the oddities that turn up like a lotus engine in a metro or a bike engined reliant robin........how about a jet turbine engine on an old butchers bike?? propelled him to 39mph and theres me taking on a skyline, i beat him off the line WHOOP
  3. now powered by an SC32a and just about done the ground running in
  4. dont worry the plane came with the MDS (i nearly didny buy it because of this)  temptation got the better of me and it seemed to run fine on the ground even with the nose up test but once in the air its a bag of nails and has a mind of its own, it almost cost me the aircraft when it cut on the 4th flight, when i got home it emediatly went in the bin i cant afford an OS 30 FX so settling for an SC32 when i get down to the model shop later today but yes ive heard nothing but bad press about the MDS engines, mixed opinions on why there so rubbish some say design tollerances are none egsistant some reccon its the carbs on them, i know when mine had warmed up and i re-checked compresion there was a hell of alot of play between the con rod and piston
  5. i reccon that globemaster at the nats 2 extra turbines and you could carry a person in the cargo bay?
  6. just over 10miles of back roads to the clubflying patch ive got a field about 2 miles away although theres ruddy horses in it
  7. re-arranging some of those words in google came up with a nice little RCM&E 1975 free plan of a pylon racer here also while searching it i notice July issue this yeah had a nice little cussat racer, might try get hold of a copy and another mag had a free plan called the okie swinger that also looks rather simular im hoping when i get a reliable engine in it and the CofG right its going to be a right little speed machine, and i dont even have to fold the seats down in the car to transport it
  8. decided its loosley based on a cassut reno racer
  9. model shops do them  also check your local bike shops and motor factors, might get one a little cheaper?
  10. HELP bought this little beast at the Nats havent a clue what it is or what its designed for CofG seems WAY forward like only a cm or so off the leading edge very slow rolls takes a good strethch to take off and comes in to land at some terrific speed........my first go with something non high wing!!  only trouble is it came with................an MDS, its almost cost me the plane allready so has emediatly been removed!!    looks to be more of a racer than an aerobat?? would love to know what it is or who its made by and what engines i can put in it and mainly CofG?
  11. congrats its the best thing ever being able to fly as and when you want too ive only been passed a week or so and had about 3 hours flying time today
  12. thats was last august had a lovely day today sun was beaming down blinding me when i was flying........even with specs on!
  13. walked from the pits to the take off strip and the damn thing cut, not tempting fate i walked back to the pits instead of atmepting to start it on the strip with a finger is there any way of starting a 4-stroke with a chicken stick?
  14. ive not touched this in months having taken up R/C again ive not even given it a thought or picked up the welder once  its a 1967 105e ive thrown a 1300 x'flow in it along with sawing the front end off in favour of fiberglass flipfront, its having polycarb windows and just a single bucket seat 3 rail gearbox with a welded diff will also be running slicks, eventual plan is 2.1 full race pinto with a hint of happy gas  built solely for drag racing although its got to be road legal and have an MOT when i bought it previous owner had brush painted it in red oxide..........nightmare!!! ooops got it back to a rolling shell although diff kept locking up and i forgot the heavy duty clutch relese bearing so its all come out again..... the fire breathing 1300, bought for £5 replaced all the gasgets and runs sweet as a nut certainly not going to be a motorway cruiser! and the flip front half on really need to get on with this
  15. these ones have a mini meter on top of the glow start to show you uve got glow  mine however the shaft thing came out the body and i havent got an allen key small enough to fit it back in......wheres the epoxy
  16. i saw in RCM&E years ago in some tips section or something, just a car headlamp bulb connected to the battery
  17. yep my instructor has been absolutly fantastic helped me no end the past few months and got me to A cert standard in next to no time, so big big thank you to all those that put themselves out to help others in the hobby
  18. i know someone in our club has an EDF F-16 and it uses just ailvators where the whole surface mover,  very fast and manouverable!
  19. ill be heading up one of the days not sure which yet, but its only 20 odd miles for me so would be rude not to, i hear theres a big swapmeet/for sale section......i shall be leaving my wallet at home so i dont bancrupt myself!
  20. loving this thread as ive allways wanted a chipmunk and been hankering for one for a while (i do have one by an un known maker in a very tatty state but not to keen on it) also about ready to move to my first low winger been torn between the black horse chippie and the travel air,,,,in the endi decided id go for the travel air being half the price incase i pranged it......  well before i got round to getting down to the model shop ive gone and bought a yak 54 on ebay by blackhorse, so looks like the chipmunk might be on hold till next year, still desperate to have one as its one of my favourite full sized aircraft i was in the air cadets but the chipmunk had been long taken out of service
  21. ouch yeah something like that happened the other week down the field chap connected up his glider and it instantly burst into life, another transmitter was swamping him although he was on 90 and the other guy was on 56  luckily no injurys but weware with electrics!!!
  22. well the bugger got me!!  after having running problems with my four stroke i thought id try set it up on the ground again fires instantly but doesnt seem to be getting max revs and doesnt like to idle again anyway i thought i would be clever and start it by gripping the spinner between thumb and finger and flicking it backwards to backfire and then fire up running in the correct direction,,,.....and err got my thumb in the way   still was totally determined to get the bugger started using this method and eventually succeded!!! for safety and ease ill still be carrying a battery and starter with me
  23. i started with an arising star not long after thaey came out, flew lovely it did, suffered alot of hangar rash while i took a break from the hobby though  i got mine from shrewsbury model center as an all in deal all you needed was fuel (they wouldnt send that in the post) was between £250 - £300 about 7 years ago....
  24. switch meter ariel rates.....ive forgoten t  timer?  i still havent got the book to read though my instructor just told me it a few weeks ago although the exminer was sayin m should also stand for model if youve got a computer radio with various model memory dont go and fly with it on the wrong memory!!
