  1. I believe its on this weekend, can anyone confirm? There is a link here but I cant open it at work.
  2. Well, the Daily Wail is at it again. During the airshow (seen by over 200,000 people) the Sally B did a fantastic display, including her trademark smoking engine routine. It was clearly mentioned by the commentator before hand, but that's not good enough for the Wail. They labelled it as 'sick'. In reply our Council leader has made the following comment: “It is very disappointing having done such a fantastic airshow which everyone – or almost everyone – absolutely loved. “This story has been concocted for some sensationalism out of nothing. “Everyone else knew what was happening, it was explained on the PA system, and they do this every time. “The story was very negative but the airshow is going to get bigger in the coming years and continue to make the people of Tendring proud.”  In this case he is spot on. 3. I do exactly what jrman does. I retain the cardboard, so the body shape is retained, cut a bigish hole in it and a squirt a bit of foam in at a time so as not to distort or overfill. Arcylics seem to stick just fine. I give mine a wash of oil based paint at the end just to highlight the details. In your case that would be both of them!
  4. I was at Duxford a couple of weeks ago and saw their Spitfire take off at least 5 times. That's 15k sorted! Love to do the Spit, but Tiger Moth flights are more in my price bracket. The ones at Duxford don't do aerobatics unfortunately. Is there anywhere that allows you to experience loops etc in a Moth?
  5. If it was me I'd try it. There are many quads with differing arms fore and aft. The Blade being one of them. Just jiggle around with the battery position to get the CG back to where it was before and give it a hop. If all is well go fly!
  6. Will take place on the Thursday 27th & Friday 28th August. The Vulcan will only take part on Thursday. For the first time a Mig 15 will be there! The Sally B will also take part, amongst others. See you there!
  7. There you go. Thinner here  Edited By Tony Read 2 on 10/07/2015 13:31:52
  8. That's the one I found. Its cheap and comes in varying shades of glossiness. It does say that its for indoor use, but that's where our planes spend most of their time! Be really interested to hear if you try it.
  9. Very, very nice. Looks like a reinforced parcel tape type finish. Very functional.
  10. Thanks to AJ and Graham the problem is solved! I remembered that the GoPro was still in its factory default of NTSC. I changed it to PAL and some ugly bloke popped up on the screen. Sorted! Thanks to all who posted. Much appreciated. At least all the button pressing has taught me what's in the menus!
  11. Just doing some touch-up with acrylics on a petrol powered plane. Would Poly-C be ok as a fuel proofer for petrol?
  12. This is the bench set up of my gear: This is the result! A work in progress!!!
  13. Thanks guys. Does it matter what settings the GoPro is on? I must admit, I thought I had matched the band/frequency, but will check. All I know is that I have done a lot of button pressing!
  14. Not sure as the instructions are woeful. Looks like you might only be able to hop between set frequencies???
  15. On Sunday I thought I would set my new FPV gear up (never owning such a gismo before). How difficult can it be? You simply connect the GoPro to the transmitter and that beams the signal back to the Black Pearl monitor. Simples! Well its proving to be quite difficult. All I get is a wavy grainy black and white image that reminds me of my childhood in the 60's when the vertical hold on the TV went wonky. I've tried changing the channels on both the Black Pearl and the transmitter thingy, but to no avail. Snow-a-vision is what I get. Looks like me waving at myself through a blizzard. It must be a rooky error, as the kit seems to be working, its just that I cant get a decent picture. Any help would be most welcome.
  16. PM sent! Found this photo - this is the same method of joining the cabane struts at the top - not very strong - but does it need to be?
  17. Hi Rob, Forgot to mention its the larger one - 1/4 scale. Doh! Any postage costs etc will be paid by me. Does the 'hinge pin' method of connecting rudder to fuz sound sound 'typical' for this model?
  18. Did everyone have a good time? The 52% Stearman impressed me. Did a great display with the huge Pitts Python. The full size Spit and P40 were awesome. There was a rumour that the Vulcan was to fly over on the Sunday, but maybe the rain stopped play. Didn't think it was as well attended as previous years, both the traders and spectators appeared down, especially on the Sunday. I came away a lot poorer - bought a load of stuff and had some nice person nick my camping seat! Nice!
  19. I picked up a nicely built Flair Fokker tripe at the Wings & Wheels show this weekend. I did notice that the rudder had a bit of minor damage on it, not enough to stop me flying it, but something I intend to rectify in the fullness of time. Could someone kindly photocopy the fin build up on the plan for me? I intend to keep using the plane until the new rudder is ready. Also, not sure how the rudder attaches to the fuz. It looks like a 'hinge pin' locks the two together. Difficult to see as everything has been nicely covered. One other thing. The front cabane struts look like they have been re-glued on. Its a glued butt joint and therefore not very strong. Is it a good idea to strengthen this joint? Thanks!
  20. Thanks John, very informative. I've come to the conclusion that it's not so easy to control the speed of larger motors as I thought. Its a bit like getting a modern car engine to run when you don't have all the electronic gismos attached. I did find this guy here. He could be my salvation! Are the alpacas good eating? I suppose there are quite a lot of neck chops. LOL
  21. Just remembered. I used an Orange Rx in mine, and had to place it way back to counter the extra nose weight of the Park 480 motor.
  22. Depends upon the servos they used. The early PZ planes had their own style of servo which would not be compatible with your new Rx. Therefore the worst case scenario is replace the existing Rx and servos. All easy to do. The elevator servo is screwed to the plastic 'skeleton' inside the fuz. Cant remember about the aileron servo - think its just glued into the wing. I converted my spit to brushless with a 3 blade prop. Looks and sounds great, I did add a carbon fibre spar to the wing to stiffen it up for high speed manoeuvres though.
