  1. Not over my house, but spied a Hurricane fuselage on the back of an artic trailer going anti-clockwise round the north M25 on Sunday. It looked new but uncovered. Any idea where it was headed for?
  2. There have been a couple of C130's stooging around the Clacton peninsula for the past few hours today. Any idea as to what activities they would be engaging in?

  6. Looks like quite a bit of research was done before they made it. The accent of Alan Farmer (Woodward) struck me as odd for Sussex, but a search on the WWW seems to indicate its a reasonable stab at it. Bet not many people from Sussex way have that accent any more though! The model flying sequences are very good, as you would expect, and stitch in with the replicas making it hard to tell one from the other. One of the Eindeckers even appears to do an Immelmann turn!

  8. For Christmas my wife bought be the Wings DVD box set. It was first shown in 1977/78 and ran for 25 episodes. It concentrates on the early period of WW1 when aerial combat was in its infancy. I loved it! The flying sequences still stand head and shoulders above much of the CGI rubbish in recent years. The excellent model flying was done by David Boddington and the replica BE2 and Eindecker looked good to me. The 'runabout' BE2 had a bit of a floppy tail, but still looked the part. Some of the acting was a bit over the top (Triggers could certainly chew the scenery!) and shouty, and one or two of the home front scenes dragged a little bit, but I would highly recommend anyone who has not seen it before to get a copy. I'm going to watch it all again very soon!

  11. Thanks Rich, just could not find anything on the WWW that said what that strip was for. I'll pull the set out and check the connections at the rear. It might just be a duff radio of course. My impression is that Ford radios in the mid to low range spec might not be up to much. The inbuilt clock is always running slow in mine, can't understand why Ford did not use RDS like my cheap as chips Astra radio had. Never had to adjust the time and the sound quality and reception was pretty good too. Reckon a trip to Halfords for a new radio might be on the cards if reception does not improve.
  12. Its a Mk2. My brother had a DAB radio fitted to his car but is somewhat under whelmed by it. two of his favourite stations have migrated to a different format, the coverage is not as good as FM and he reckons that the band width is getting squeezed, reducing quality, although how much quality you expect from a car radio I don't know.
  13. Hi all, My faithful Astra was put out to pasture at 200,000 miles and I went for a second hand Focus. Have worked through most of its problems now apart from its rubbish radio reception. Apart from a couple of stations I mostly hear static. I have cleaned up the aerial base connections but its still the same. It might still be a bad earth so I was thinking of running a wire to a convenient earth and found what might be an earth connected to a thin plastic conductive strip. See the orange strip in the photo below. It points towards the windscreen. Anyone know what this strip is for? My car has the heated front screen, but I believe the power connectors are at the bottom of the screen. The aerial wire is the blue one. Anyone had this radio problem before with their Focus?

  17. So is charging at 50% capacity of nicds ok? I do this on a couple that are still going strong and have not had a problem. if so, what makes nimh's different in this respect? Really interested to know.

  20. Found this on a forum: That only applies to Europe (EU countries). Outside of Europe DSM2 support is still available in all new transmitters. This is due to EU legislation, nothing Spektrum can do about it. With Brexit will this change?
  21. A couple of weeks ago I spoke to the very nice chap at Flair about a spare cowl for my Maggi. They should be back in stock soon. He mentioned that his die cutter is getting past its best, so is looking to cut the kit ribs etc with a laser setup. Sounds to me that Flair is not dead in the water yet!
  22. BTW I serviced two of my models this weekend. When I took the fuel tank bungs out the bent brass pipes just crumbled in my hand! The straight ones were tarnished but fine. I empty the tanks at the end of every session, but I suspect that the fuel, when contaminated with residue from the exhaust pressure, still has time to react with the brass, especially where stress has been placed in the metal. Will try aluminium pipes and see what happens.
