  1. I have permission to fly off a private field as long as I don't make too much noise. The problem I have is my limited time, I just don't have the time to attend a formal club.
  2. Electric only flying site I'm afraid but I do agree that a 'proper' engine would finish it nicely!
  3. After Christmas as I'm not allowed to touch it except to check 'that it's all there'   I also got mine from Galaxy and originally intended to wait for the new Hangar 9 Sundowner 36 but I've always like the Nemesis so couldn't resist. I think the set up recommended for the Sundowner would work well in this!   E-Flite Power 32 5 cell 2700mah battery 10x10 APC prop
  4. My wife has just got me a Nemesis NXT for Christmas and the build quality does indeed look good for the price. I'll be going electric but as yet have no idea on what motor, ESC and batteries I'll go with. It should end up reasonably light so obtaining CG could be interesting! 39 days to Xmas and counting Edited By Mark S on 16/11/2010 20:19:31
  5. GiantCod - outstanding, enough said! BRC - excellent, usually arrives the next day! Robotbirds- brilliant for things no-one else seems to have! Hobbycity - just post the damn thing. Galaxy models - please don't ignore me when I'm infront of you at the counter! (But generally very good) SMC - good but only used a few times. Als Hobbies - as above. Foamyjets - good, if it's in stock. RC Castle - very good considering they're thousands of miles away.   There you go, not a great insight but I've not had any really bad experiences in over 20 years so our retail network must be in pretty good shape.
  6. Fantastic service from TJD, ordered Saturday night and in my hands this morning! This plane is bigger than I imagined it to be but the value for money at this price is staggering. I'll be going with 2 x 2200mah 4 cell batteries in parallel probably with a 42-50A 700Kv Turnigy swinging a 13 x something prop. Should zip around with authority
  7. I've just bought one as an Xmas pressie from my wife. I thought it looked exceptional value for money and couldn't help myself. Now to see about a motor? Most recommendations seem to be the Power 32 on 4 cell but Im be after a Turnigy equivalent. Any ideas?
  8. Oops, too much beer ^ that should have read ref J-Std-001 and IPC-A-610.
  9. Gold embrittlement is nothing new and has been known about for donkeys years. Without going into pointless detail the best way to avoid it is to tin the connector, remove the solder using solder wick and repeat again. This will remove the gold in the solder area and stop it contaminating the intermetallic layer of the joint. For the techies, use a decent SN63 solder with a liquid RMA flux and the iron set at 650F and all your joints will be sound and mirror like. Ref IPC-A-001 or pay me £500 and I'll teach you
  10. The Typhoon is by Sapac and the F35 by Freewing but I'm not sure about the others. Foamyjets did the Typhoon for a while at £75 without motor and esc and since then no-one has imported the nps version which is a real shame!
  11. So would you accept a Ford Galaxy if you'd ordered a Volkswagon Sharan? I say if you paid for a HET then you should receive a HET regardless of whether they are identical under the sticker. Buy direct from HET and save the hassle!
  12. I have 3 of the 60amp switching BEC Turnigy's and they are ace. The cheap HXT ESC's are not worth the grief in my experience.
  13. Actually with the small receiver mounted up front, the aerial width is exactly the same as the fuse so they don't stick out but you have to make holes for the aerials to sit in.
  14. I flew my F-16 today for the first time on a Spektrum setup. I'm using the DX6i with the 6200 receiver and it was flawless. It's the first time I have flown a plane at our field with absolutely no glitching at all, all morning I mounted the mini-receiver right up front with the aerials pointing outwards through the fuse and the main receiver 1 inch behind it at 90 degrees to the mini. Setting up the DX6i is quite easy once you're familiar with the menus but one thing you may have to do is move the control rods out on the servo arms as the elevon setting is fixed at 50% unlike my Futaba 6EX which is adjustable from 100%. I'll still use my 35Mhz gear on my cheap planes as the receivers are so cheap but 2.4Ghz is definately the future.
  15. Pete, how are running your aerial? I had glitching with my F16 on 35Mhz when I ran my aerial along the fuselage but that all went away when I ran it out along the leading edge of the wing.
  16. BRC's F-16 for £35 is a fantastic EDF. It does everything extremely well and is very stable. I have mine running a HET 3W motor in a HET fan on 4 cell and it's a joy to fly. My favourite edf for sure. Scott, can you tell me how much throw and expo you are using on your F-35 please? I'll use duall rates with expo but would like to get some good base settings before maiden. Many thanks.
  17. Catch the intake ducts on landing and you probably will take chunks out of them.
  18. The foam is thin and is approx 6mm in most areas. Keep it light and it floats in well for a landing but I use self-adhesive tranparent film from bookshops to protect the underside.
  19. Mine threw a blade on the stock rotor straight away so I fitted a GWS 64mm rotor and it works just as good. Scott will you be stocking the Freewing T38 or L39?
  20. SMC deal also includes an ESC so yes I would say it's a good deal if it lasts!
  21. Looks like the Freewing F-35 I have sat in front of me! If it is then it's made of EPS, is very easy to put together and goes like the proverbial. I'm using a cheap 4200Kv 20mm Keda inrunner and 40amp esc. You can get the plane and fan only for £55 plus shipping from BRC so the SMC deal looks pretty good.
  22. I'm going to have to call this plane Doom as everytime I've flown it something has gone wrong. First the servos caused a crash, then the ESC packed up, then the motor terminal broke and now the prop adaptor has broken  But when it works it's great
  23. I have dual rates set on mine and only use the high rate for launch. I use 30% expo to calm it down at high speeds but it's probably not necessary. Expo really makes sense with twitchy planes like the Microjet or fast planes like pylons doing 150mph but I use it on most of my planes except my 3D Typhoon as I want precise control at all times. Roll on hand launch is quite common with large prop planes but the only time I get it with EDF's is by me twisting the plane as I throw it.
