  1. Thanks Cymaz for your views. Call me old fashioned, but I like the simplicity a magneto ignition. Not really taken by a tiger Moth but if the Zenoah backplate can be fitted to the firewall and the exhaust accomodated within the cowl, then the seagull RANS 20 looks a good prospect. Thank you again. Les T
  2. Thank you Dennis for your prompt reply. the Zenoah has a large mounting backplate as a opposed to a beam mount as pictured. the plate is 130mm wide x 80mm deep. wondered if the fire wall was large enough. Looks a nice model. Les T
  3. Hi All, Looking for a home for my Zenoah 26cc engine. looking at Seagull Rans 20 or seagull DHC 2 Turbo Beaver. or similar scale model. I was wondering if anyone has experience of installing this engine into either of these models and if so, what problems did you encounter. Thank you in anticipation. Les.T
  4. Hi BEB, Yes it fires up the motor and all appears well other than the cell count has disappeared!!
  5. I have been altering the brake setting on my Hacker speed controller by using the transmitter. Unfortunately I have now lost the cell count beeps on start up. Everything appears to be working fine otherwise. Anyone out there who could shed some light on my apparent error and suggest a remedy? Many thanks, Les
  6. Frank, Many thanks once again...Fully understand now. Your patience and technical knowhow has been appreciated. Wasn't too happy about Y leads on the flying surfaces ( aileron ), because of the need to be able to fine tune each servo individually. Thanks again for your help. Got to start again!!!!!!!!!!!!! Kind Regards. Les.
  7. Hi Frank, I finished setting it up today with the two power leads going from the Powerbox switch to the Bind/Data port and the other into the Gear port. Ailerons on a Y lead unfortunately. only got a DX8 and and a DSMX 8000RX. The plane has a choke servo which has been the cause of enquiries. I needed all eight channels to have dual servos on aileron, hence the need to see if I could put both power inputs to the Bind/Data port, via a Y lead. The plane is a Hangar 9 Carden Extra Thank you once again for your help. Kind Regards, Les..
  8. Thank you both Dave and Frank for your help and advice. Just to be safe I will use both the bind/date port and a servo port for the dual power supply and Y lead a control surface, probably aileron. I don't know enough about electronics to take a chance. Thank you all once again for the help and advice. Kind Regards. Les.
  9. HI Frank, Thanks for your input. Sorry my post may have been a little unclear. I will be running a two X 2 cell lipo setup through a powerbox Gemini regulator switch. I wondered if it was acceptable to join the two power outputs to a Y lead and then simply plug into the RX bind/data port, thereby allowing all eight channels to be utilised for the aircraft and just using the single bind/data port just for the power input.Hope this makes sense. Regards, Les.
  10. Thanks Dave. Will a Y lead be OK to run twin Lipos via a regulator though. Les
  11. Just a quickie Was wondering if it is possible to Y lead 2 x 2 cell lipo batteries via a suitable regulator directly into the Bind/Data port of a DSMX 8000 RX. This will then provide me with eight working channels Advice would be appreciated. Les..   Edited By Les Turrall 2 on 28/07/2015 20:11:54
  12. Just thought I'd let you good folks know of the superb service I received from Mike Perret of West Wales Models. I reported a problem with my almost one year old DLE 55 engine on Friday afternoon. Having discussed the issue with Mr Perret, I posted the engine back on Saturday. On Monday I received a phone call to say that the fault was a damaged main bearing and a replacement engine would be posted back. At 1030hrs on Tuesday morning the courier delivered a new replacement engine How good is that in these days of mediocrity, which I have had cause to report before via this forum in the past. It's so refreshing to deal with a company who puts the customer first...Many thanks and may West Wales Models go on to greater things....Very highly recommended to those who despise poor service.   Edited By Les Turrall 2 on 21/04/2015 19:25:15
  13. Well I for one won't put up with poor service. If everyone is happy to accept mediocrity then who am I to worry. My gripe with Area 51 goes back several weeks and I still have yet to receive a satisfactory answer to a reasonable request for spare parts.. Sorry guys, it just won't do!!!! I'll do my model shopping elsewhere where my custom is appreciated and valued.
  14. Hi Ben, I see that we're in agreement once again.!!!! I for one, will not put up with shoddy service and any Company that complains about lack of loyalty of the modelling fraternity should have the courage of their own convictions and put their case on forums such as this. I note that few, if any, ever do!! Is it that they can't be bothered?? Les.
  15. Hi Jack, I think that the owner has had an injury and is off sick and has been for weeks. All phone calls were being answered by someone allegedly holding the fort for him. I've had no luck with my particular problem and have given up trying after weeks of phone calls. I won't ever deal with them again since the service I've received has been a disgrace. Shouldn't be surprised if they go to the wall. Good Luck because you're going to need it, since they don't answer their Emails either. Kind Regards, Les.
  16. Had great service and advice from Dan at KLMS regarding a problem with getting hold of a reed block for my Mintor 33 petrol engine. He stripped a stock Mintor, measured the reed petals and suggested that a DLE 111 reed petal could be adapted to fit. It was successful and my hat off to him for his help, which can be more than said for both the for the main Distributor and the Manufacturer, who have been as much use as a glass spanner.
  17. Hi Lee, So would I. However, I won't be holding my breath. The problems I had with mine, only this year I might add, Involved loss of power, noise and at least 2mm of end play on the crankshaft when measured at the prop ends. This was when the engine was hot. when cold, no play at all!! Repaired under warranty after a shed load of grief and finally sorted by Colin at Area 51. six flights since and the reeds have cracked and the engine is dead. This was reported to Area 51 on the 9th April. Fed up with repeated phone calls to chase up progress so decided to try contacting Mintor direct, by Email, on several separate occasions. No response at all so far. I have since sourced my own reed valves adapted from a DLE111 engine. Shouldn't have to with an engine still under warranty, which I can't prove because Mintor kept my sales receipt!!! If you want shoddy after sales support, buy Mintor. I rest my case, but good luck with yours and I hope you don't suffer the same fate. Les Turrall
  18. Hi John, It is a pity that Companies are so blasé and have little or no regard for their customers. They seem to have lost sight of the fact that without customers they have no business. Still, whilst all is going well, no problem exists. It's when problems occur that a Company can enhance its reputation. I feel sorry for your friend, whose experience is similar to mine.
  19. Well, another mans' meat is another mans poison. I wish you good luck and hope your engines perform well and you enjoy superb after sales service. Regrettably, that has not been the case in my experience. I emailed Area 51 with a request for a reed block or replacement reed petals on 9th April. despite all the efforts of a gentleman who is holding the fort for Colin, I am still waiting. I've even Emailed Mintor on three separate occasions in an effort to approach this problem from a angle. Result..............Zilch. I hope your engines continue to perform well but do bear in mind, that if you do require any sort of support, be prepared for a very, very long wait. By the way, Mintor provide Walbro carbs and therefore should, in in my view, be responsible for the walbro parts. Heyho.... Certainly won't be buying another!!
  20. Hi Dave, You're right of course. The purpose of this thread however, was to point out the failures of the Manufacturer in terms of it's customer support. No one wants to undergo a lot of grief in trying to resolve a problem. My advice was to simply let people know that Mintors customer support is non existent. The consumer then must make his or hers own mind up accordingly when choosing to buy that particular brand, or not.
  21. Hi Ben, They look nice and have power aplenty. Just the service is very poor when they go wrong. Looking at your comment, it seems they do so regularly!!!! Les.
  22. If anyone out there is considering buying a Mintor petrol engine my advice would be to consider carefully before doing so. I had to send mine back to Italy for repair which was an absolute nightmare to get them to respond. Area 51 were supportive and it was only through Colins' determination, that I got anywhere at all. Eventually the engine was returned to me without any explanation at all regarding the faults and lo and behold, six flights later, the reed valves have given up. Colin at Area 51 is off sick, and to try and contact Mintor as a customer, is impossible. Never in my modelling experience, have I come across such shoddy, second rate customer support. It's small wonder that the Italian economy is in such dire straits if Mintor is anything to go by. Do yourselves a favour and leave these engines well alone, unless of course, your patience is inexhaustible. Kind Regards, Les Turrall
  23. My advice would be to leave Mintor well alone. Took me ages to get them to repair my Mintor 33, which developed bearing movement and noise. Eventually got them via Area 51, to fix it under warranty. Came back after several weeks and six flights later, has now succumbed to a broken reed valve. Can I get any joy from Mintor???? you guessed it!!!!! ZILCH! Ditch the Mintor and get a DLE 30!!!!
  24. Hi All, Anyone out there who has a couple of reed valves for a Mintor 33? I've tried to contact Mintor individually and through those nice people at Area 51 Distribution. Despite their best efforts, I'm unable to achieve any response from the manufacturers. Hoping therefore that someone will have want I need or may be able to advise an alternative?? It's like punching cotton wool when dealing with Mintor direct so I,m hoping someone will be able to help. Kind Regards, Les Turrall
