  1. Me and a mate have recently purchased 2 if the 35cc versions to power Seagull edge 540's. This is our first foray into petrol engines and I must say we're enjoying it greatly. The engines start easily and run reliably, seem to use very little fuel and are an excellent match for the Edges. I can make a few observations though Use the correct high quality synthetic oil to add to the fuel, Just engines sell an excellent one. Filter the petrol as you mix it, then filter it as it goes in the model. We use Sullivan 'crap traps' and have had no problems. The Exhaust worked loose on both models within 10 minutes flying. A call to JE revealed they prefer to ditch the gasket sets and use hi temp sillicon sealer on the exhaust and Loctite Red on the bolts. We followed their advice and have had no further problems. Use a new, quality, high capacity battery for the Ignition system. Use a petrol filler valve rather than mess about spilling fuel everywhere. These are amazing, they sit in the tank to carb line and allow you to fuel the model easily. Loctite everything on the model. These engines vibrate a lot! Learn to raise your game. These are serious model engines, quite capable of removing a kneecap if mishandled. We've put backup batteries on the radio system, Tygon tube throughout, and generally engineered the model to a much higher standard than your average wot 4.
  2. Hi all, can you answer a question for me. Can I use a buddy lead between my T10J Tx and an old challenger set that I have?
  3. We haven't actively sought this layout. It started with a couple of lads with drones so all that was needed was a bench and a couple of chairs. Then a few IC planes arrive and suddenly it's no longer Suitable. Perhaps someone would sketch me out a layout that would be more suitable and we can discuss it at the next club meeting? I rather expected there to be something in the BMFA hand book
  4. I should perhaps point out that the hedge is about 4 feet thick with a barbed wire fence inside and at this time of year it's about 5 feet tall. The chances of a model hitting anyone is virtually nil. It was, however considered possible that a prop may go over the hedge at some point, hence the question.
  5. We have a pilots Box on the edge of the runway which i didn't show. It's fenced off with some temporary barriers whilst flying. As it's in the middle of Sandwell Valley we aren't allowed anything permanent .
  6. Google earth is too old to show the runway as we've only been established 2 years, but I think this sketch will suffice. Where I have marked the pits is where we park the IC models. Which way should the models face?
  7. Hi Does anyone have any definitive views on how the pit area at the flying field should be laid out? There is some confusion at our club as to which is the correct way for IC air craft to be facing when starting up. The concern arises from a public footpath that runs parallel to the pit area and standard practise up untill now has been to face aircraft towards the footpath which is about 5 metres away with aircraft being restrained with steel hoops in the usual way. Some members have expressed concern that in the event of a prop failure it would travel forward towards the footpath with the possibe consequences but turning around the models would blow dirt and grass in the same direction. Clubs i've flown at in the past have models restrained so that should one be released by accident it would face out of the pit area and not toward other models and modelers. I've looked at the BMFA handbook for advice on best practise in this area so we can discuss it at our next club meet but found nothing useful. Anybody give us some guidance in this area? thanks
  8. Update... alas it didn't work. The tail servo appeared to operate correctly on the bench but wouldn't respond to any kind of adjustment with the vengine running. New 9251 purchased, from the link above -thank you
  9. Well I'm happy to report it's worked ! At least as far as the servo is now responding as I would expect it to . Don't know if it will result in a degradation of tail performance by reducing the pulse rate as instructed but it's worth a try. Thanks a lot Steve and others
  10. Thank you for that.... 130 Euro for a single servo is hard to stomach.
  11. Yes thanks got the manual Haven't read it for awhile...
  12. The 601 has a very high frame rate and has a servo especially made for it. All others are incompatible- just won't work. I bought the gyro as I already have the later version of the servo in the heli, which is the 9253, which I thought would be fine. Duh! My choice now is to either find the right servo or start again. Trouble is, I have one of these 601/9251 combo's in my Raptor and its just brilliant, hence my reluctance to bin it... Servo shop has one listed at £114, but no stock when I rang them. And yes, plenty of gear cases available!
  13. Does anyone know to one of these servos for sale anywhere? It's the only one that will work with my Gy 601 Gyro in my Hirobo Freya and they aren't made anymore and the later ones won't work, as I have found out. Thanks
  14. Hi all can someone recommend a good motor and ESC and Battery combo for the Katana 50 I'm about to buy that won't break the bank? thanks
  15. Posted by simon barr on 28/04/2015 20:17:13: That's what I said...... Well done that man!
  16. Thanks all for your suggestions. my error- The 10J has 2 receiver types and you have to manually select which one. Is now working!
  17. Am trying to bind my new R2000B Receiver to my new F10 J transmitter. Am following the proceedure in the manual but the red light stays solid and the link mode times out. Anybody know what the problem is? It's gotta be something I'm doing wrong
  18. TBH they all feel cheap and plasticky these days i think. My Zap weighs a ton and is beautifully built but it's worn out now and it won't balance properly with a 2.4g module and neck strap. I'm not expecting any TX to match it in that repect. Fortunately Slough Models phoned and asked if I wanted Mode 1 or 2 as they had both in stock!
  19. I've had 4 futaba sets over 30 years and they all gave fine service. Flying with anything else would be unnatural. My current Tx is a 9ZHP which I bought second hand 8 years ago. it must be 20 years old. BUT it's feeling it's age, Time to upgrade. To what though? I have wrestled with this for the last few months and today I ordered a Futaba 10J and I feel great about my decision. Futaba is my natural choice. I like many of the other radios available and came close to ordering a Graupner MC-18 but in the end I couldn't do it
  20. Hi all , am just about to order a Futaba 10J Tx but cannot find out if it is supplied as Mode 1 or 2 and if it changeable? I have done all my Futaba transmitters no problem in the past but a google search talks about swapping the spring for the ratchet and a recalibration. Anyone shed any light on this? Thanks
  21. Looks good in the flesh.. Gliders not bad either LOL
