  4. Morning All, I have mentioned in other threads (PSSA meets) that I have started the renovation of F-86 Sabre, this is a model I picked up from a fellow forumite some time ago and it has done a fair few flights since then. The covering is starting to look a little rough in places and I really enjoy flying her, so time for a change of clothes. So I have so managed to strip the wings, with the help of my 2 year old (he liked this job!) to a reasonable degree, but not completely stipped yet. The ailerons need to come off and get done, as does the trailing edge. Once that is done I intend to fill and patch the wing, and inset some magnets or steel strips to allow for the later addition of drop tanks (longer term project!), then glass cloth and Poly C with some lightweight cloth I have. I then intend to re-colour. While all that is going on I also need to strip, inspect, repair recover and colour the fuselage. I think the fuselage bottom sheeting behind the wing seat is tarting to come away from the sub-frame so may need some work, as may the tail. I hope to have it all done by the September PSSA meeting in South Wales, but will depend on other things, like getting the garden done! Right - the new colour scheme.... will be posted once I upload it into my albums....
  5. Hope you all have a good time! I am trying to get to join you for 1 day, but we will see!
  6. Posted by GONZO on 27/07/2015 11:04:56: HK only trade in $'s. So select this currency when looking/ordering. The £ rates are only an indication and could be wildly out depending on when HK updated their exchange rate and what PayPal charge. Edited By GONZO on 27/07/2015 11:05:15 The key part being Paypal. HK use the XE.com exchange rates, these are approximately market value rates - i.e. what business get. When we as individuals buy/sell currency the rate is adjusted by the currency changer and the difference is the profit. Paypal will bill your card in the foreign currency, and your bank will do the exchange at a set rate, set by them, and they will often add a fee as well. I am off to Germany in October on holiday, and looking at the cheapest/best way to get Euros has been 'interesting' to say the least. Olly
  7. Strung with a net to catch aircraft that come in mis-aligned or have a leg collapse and so on. Also allow crew to get out of the way if an aircraft come in and does something unusual..... From memory....
  8. No Worries - given how many projects I'm not woking on at the moment they'd have sat doing nothing for a while anyway! Going to try to get away from work shortly and might actually get some time in the shed this afternoon, will be able to do some modelling AND some garden DIY work.... at least that is what I'll tell SWMBO. Keep us up to date Dave!
  9. Excellent Dave, and we will have to talk about those ESC's and EDFs. Olly
  10. Matt - not much I'm afraid - I'm partway through cutting the wing templates for the foam cutting. 2 fuselage panels are 'stick built' but still in flat form for stowage at the moment. I think this one might be a late shower as I've been 're-focussed' onto getting the garden sorted... Dave - Our Welsh is the campsite, closest one that we could find which would take my parents camper. Plan is that I'll be in a dome tent in the awning, my parents and little Stephen will be in the camper itself.
  11. I find I suffer from depression if I go to long between exposures - it means I haven't been in the shed for too long!
  12. Looking forward to September, but can't make August I'm afraid. Booked on a camp site with my parents and little one, so I can get away flying all day on the Saturday and some of Sunday (swimming lesson to get back for for the little one). As to models - well I have started the restoration job on the Sabre, and it might take a little while so might only have none scale models for this one. All depends on how much time I get!
  13. Posted by john stones 1 on 01/07/2015 23:42:28: Anyone going the EGM, or is your club sending a rep, looks like i'm going I never got trampled in the rush of volunteers John Not even been invited, but then I am a 'country member' and therefore of limited value. I know this sounds negative, but the club structure works for many, but not all BMFA members. I have my view on how the majority of what I would consider model flyers now fly and that is not within clubs, and not even as country members, but in the local park, or back garden, flying pre-assembled quad copters. These are the future fliers we need to try to capture, otherwise the BMFA will never grow. Why is this relevant to a NFC? Well, most of the 'quaders' will probably only join as country members (why pay more to do what they already do by joining a club) and unless we feel we are getting something out of the proposal then that won't happen. So would an NFC benefit country members???
  14. Well - I did make my first foam cuts, and they where truly awful. That is going in thew bin. I was thinking about putting this onto the back burner until the CNC HWC was finished, but as I am wrestling with the software/electronics interface at the moment, I'm thinking about doing it the other way round. in essence I'm going to cut some of the key ribs and cut foam in shorter sections, hopefully allowing me to keep a better control of the cutter. I'm also not going to cut the spars in initially, but add them afterwards. Ah well, foam is cheap and experience is good. Olly
  15. I'd rather be flying! I'm going to be working for good Queen Bess, so can't make it. I will get out though. I (for a change!) have more leave days left than SWMBO this year, so might book some time off to get some full on shedding done. might try and get the place tidied tonight after the gardening chaos of the last 2 months... If I manage then the CNC machine will be started...
  16. Won't make the next event as I'm working away, but the Bwlch in September looks promising - might even use up some leave to have dedicated week of 'shedding' before hand and make sure I have a few restored and possibly one new airframe....
  17. We have an I30, same age, and had similar issues, without the water. Unfortunately we needed a full ECU - thankfully we where still under warranty.
  18. OK. My better half is away, with the nipper for a week later this month, and as the plan is to have the garden finished by then I might get the shed back, and I'll have time to use it! So I am no having to make some decisions. I have found a source for the remaining electronics trivia, and it will not cost much. I need to obtain the ball bearing slides to run the actual wire 'shackles' on, and therefore need to make some decisions based on size. The principle use will be for cutting wing sections, and therefore the height should be easy to accomodate within a 500mm runner, But what about the chord? I can set the 2 runners almost any distance apart so the span is not limited by this, but the chord will be. Is 550mm enough, or do I go to 600, or more? The other factor is space - at full extension the arms will be twice as long as the movement! hmm....decisions, decisions.....
  19. Shame I didn't make it but that's what a 24 hr bug will do! Either way, hoping to make at least one this year, and the plan is to camp with the little one and make a weekend of it! Now, to get the CNC machine finished and the TB-3 finally built!
  20. Never had one, do remember one at my old club though where a pilot who was known to not call low passes, didn't and conducted said pass as another member, who had called did a take off into the bottom of him.... Taking off a/c Broken prop and long landing, other, written off as no elevator and suddenly nose heavy..... 4 ft up.
  21. My Hi-Fly - 14 years and not flown....nearly finished though.....
  22. going to make it due to illness. Have a good one!
  23. Well, stole some shed time last night. batteries charged, and 1 airframe repaired (the powered one!). Having checked over the 'short term' repairs made last year to the Sabre - I am happy to fly it tomorrow. I will strip and re-cover at some stage though. Had the nod from SWMBO to join everyone for tomorrow only, but have to be home by 4, therefore away by 2. See you all there! Tim - any chance you can post the directions to the tank track car park again?? Thanks Olly
  24. So if I will be there on Sat depends on if the better half is doing overtime. I'll have the little one wth me, and might do some kite flying on the beach with him as well.... Looks like I'll have a couple of gliders, one powered, but no PSS models flyable.
