  5. Hello all,   Completed my first solo on my own aircraft on my own yesterday, and believe it or not it is still in one piece!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!   After 2 x two hour training sessions and a session with an instructor setting my aircraft up, i decided to bite the bullet and go for it. After running nearly a full tank of fuel through the engine making sure she was purring like a kitten, i placed her down and just thought, here goes! My legs and knees were physically knocking together as i lifted her off and completed a couple of the most nerve racking circuits ever!!! I was so stiff and nervous that i then decided to land and calm down. A bit of a bumpy landing, a little nicked prop but on the wheels and level!!! Phew!! After a couple of minutes composing myself and a quick fag  a quick refuel and she was up again. There was no wind whatsoever and i assume this had an effect on the trim, which had been set up by my instructor in high winds, so a couple of VERY erratic circuits calmed down when i manged to compose myself again and trim out. Landed a bit better this time. Third flight was much better and a little more relaxed and the landing was good enough to even taxi back to me! I must say, what an awesome feeling it was once i got over that initial petrified feeling. I was still shaking all the way home and after a change of pants, was delighted with just a quick prop change.   I wonder though, does a little wind actually make it easier as it slows the aircraft down on finals and stabilises it better?   Cheers,   Ross.
  6. Timbo, you were right, they said there was nothing they could do and my eyeball would drop off in a couple of days!!!!  Oh well, i suppose i have another one   Only kidding. The Dr said i had an abrasion on my cornea and gave me some antibiotic eye cream to be applied four times a day for four days. No big drama thankfully and all will be good.   Flying lesson tomorrow so could always blame a crash on my medical condition!!! Any excuse will do.   Cheers all.
  7. Yeah, think i might just do that. Will let you know what happens!
  8. Hi,   I have just managed to get a tiny bit of Cyano splash in my eye which i rinsed out straight away for about 10mins and then applied eye drops.   There is still a tiny pin size amount still on my eyeball. It doesnt hurt and there is no irritation.    Anybody done this before and what medical advice did you seek?
  9. WOW, awesome shots of a very rare event. The crew probably needed a new set of underwear after that!!
  10. Hi Rob,   I too am in the same boat as you. I am extremely new to flying and the forum but the welcome i have had on this site has been superb.   I am due for my second 2 hour flying lesson with a local club next week and to be honest, being patient and fighting the temptation to fly my own plane has been excruciating!!   I bought a Hangar 9 Alpha 40 Trainer with Specktrum DX5 and all bits included and it looks the business. Researched it a lot and spent time deciding on the right one to learn. Built beautifully and designed with beginner in mind. Starting it and hearing the engine purr is awesome. Obviously, i cant comment on how it flies yet but i will let you know.   I am already fully addicted.   Welcome.   Ross.
  11. Good advice Andrew, will do that.   Sounds good Richard.
  12. WOW, thanks guys. Off to Focus tomorrow for me then.   Also, thanks for all your concerns and H+S advice but believe me i am very careful, i knicked my finger just trying to hand start her on my first go and since then i am almost afraid to go anywhere near her when she is running as if she can cut my finger just turning her over i dread to think what she can do at idle even!!!!!!!! I can imagine there are a lot of RC enthusiasts out there with less than 10 digits   Once again, cheers for all the quick sound advice, much appreciated.   Ross.
  13. Hi,   I have seen that you can hold your plane with a chock that has two long bits of dowel that go vertically around the fuselage and in front of the tail to stop your aircraft moving. I also understand this may be a necessity at a club.   Has anybody got any links to somewhere that sells them or advice on how to make one, they can't be that hard surely?   Cheers,   Ross.
  14. Ok, cheers Steve, much appreciated.
  15. Ha Ha, i am not sure they would appreciate the downdraft blowing thier models away Stephen!!!!
  16. That is a quality story Garry, loved it. Good way of looking at it.   Cheers.
  17. I am looking to complete my first solo in the next week or so.   I am sooo scared of breaking my new pride and joy and was just wondering, how did people find thier first ever flight with thier own aircraft and what is the success rate?
  18. I have the above engine on my Alpha 40 with an APC 11x5 prop and ally spinner.   Does anybody know what an ideal idle RPM and full power RPM is?   Or is it too individual to say for each engine?
  19. Cheers guys, feel welcome already.   Great forum.
