  1. Not having used balsa cement for a long time I too trawled the web but it seems there are many brands . Is there balsa cement and balsa cement or are all brands much of a muchness? D
  2. Just taken delivery of timber to finish my Ww Sapphire rc conversion then my super sinbad. Next will be a thermic 50. Hoping I can persuade laser cutter owner to do the fiddly bits for me...
  3. Well the ones ive seen you access via an app or sumfink and you see the action live. Yes the 20 to 30 quid ones will fit the bill I think.
  4. My wife wants to set ip a camera to stream tha garden to see whether we have foxes or whatever. Anyone any recommendations for cameras? I think some have movement sensors on them.
  5. I'm most impressed. Will you be offering rib sets for a price, to offset your own build costs?
  6. Thanks for the info on solarfilm selling stock. I didnt know that ...just ordered some. D
  7. I used to use the backing off solarfilm. Sad days now they've gone...
  8. All good points. I'll.probably end up with a saw in the end. Depends whether I end up building stick framed vintage planes...which I probably will. Thanks chaps
  9. Now heres the thing...like all good things, my enthusiasm ran away and i explored all possibilities. from asking a question about the SLEC stripper which i never got on with I have started looking at a Proxxon 230. Then i asked myself the question, how much strip do i need to cut in order to actually warrant a proxxon, at 120 quid. I went onto the Balsacabin website and mocked up two orders - one, the strip for a 60 inch glider Super Sinbad and 2, the same order in sheet for me to cut my own strip. The difference was surprisingly little, maybe a tenner. I know the cost of strip is high compared to sheet but given the actual low costs involved... is cutting ones own actually worth it in bulk or is a SLEC or similar simply something to keep in the drawer just in case the odd piece is needed? I always thought a strip cutter was well worth it...now I question that. D
  10. I'm sure Erfolg. I shall need something sooner rather than later the full.kit I just bought is not a full kit...no strip at all. You get on okay with that chinese thing?
  11. Good grief. That cannot be legal in the UK! Looks like it means business but I'm going to try to reduce my chinese purchases post corona. Going to try anyway.
  12. Glass. Yes we use print as well. It's been churning out stuff for work for weeks full speed ahead, just started playing up. It's a prusa device. Normally excellent though
  13. Thanks. I've just been told by my son who drives the printer that its tempo u/s for some reason. So this will have to wait sadly while we work out why the prints are failing. Seems everything unsticks from the bed and curls up like a british rail sandwich.
  14. Posted by Pete Crosby on 23/04/2020 18:30:42: I use a 3d printed one I found on thingyverse, printed out very well and works great.. That's neat. I could print that. Thanks. You dont have a link do you? D
  15. Ordered a Belair kit for 60" Super Sinbad yesterday. It was posted out today. Board is clear, knives ready....
  16. Goodness...I hope not. See, that's the danger of all flying tailplanes... All together now.. "oh dont start that again..."
  17. Posted by Barrie Lever on 22/04/2020 13:53:22: Posted by Doc Marten on 22/04/2020 13:37:08: Barrie, I don't aim to completely eliminate PRC produced goods completely, as you've pointed out that would be impossible and to be fair it would be stupid to eliminate all options if the best one is PRC manufactured, I'm just interested if people are rethinking their consumer power and changing habits. Doc To answer your question, yes I am taking this opportunity to lower my PRC consumption further than an already low level. To be true full, it would not matter to me if there was never anything else to come out of China, we would get by just fine. B. We would but people LOVE cheap. In fact people WANT free! Much good can come from this virus! Lets hope it does D
  18. I was fortunate once in that I did NOT have a floppy stab in an A320, but several of my friends and colleagues did. They reported that it was terrifying. . Airbus eventually told us it was exactly as we get on models...wear and slop. Much heavy maintenance later that plane was repaired.
  19. Maybe. The forces available though can be huge and feedback low. Never mind. All the airliners I've flown and most of the light aircraft do not use all flying stabs. The stab is often uses as a trim device to lessen drag. The piper Cherokee series use all flying stabs of course, and they're fitted with anti-servo tabs to help add some feel. Our models are made for a variety of reasons...one is looks, another is "because I want to". Bottom line is if one fancies all flying, all flying it is! As has been said, since we fly through sprung sticks via a powerful servo many full size issues do not appear. I suspect hinges cut from a lemonade bottle are easier to administer than all flying surfaces. Certainly I've fitted probably 99 percent elevator types over the years. Just easier I guess .
  20. Runaway: uncontrolled surface movement to extreme travel.
  21. Piper did the same with the cub...elevators and move the stab for trim. One big disadvantage of an all flying surface, well two in fact, is that they can be tricky for pilots to handle (cf ww1 fighters with poor stability but a rather exciting maneouverability) and they are extremely powerful...a runaway is uncontrollable. I accept that a trim.runaeay can also be but a full stab runaway would really spoil my day . Of course, using a horizontal stab as trim does allow the whole surface to stream which is efficient. But whether that would be worth a heap of ants in a model I wouldnt say .
  22. All good points Erfolg, all good points. But convenience of a 60" is superb. I have never had a 144" glider and I'd love one maybe knows the time. I have just bought the plans for the original, 60", super sinbad FF glider which I shall radio-fy. I'm tempted with the 90 inch kit too... it did occur to me that two versions of the same model make n excellent comparison! I once built a Dave Hughes Sorcerer, of which model I built many in fact, with a double span wing. That flew like it was glued to a cloud.. D
