  1. Myron, the answer was unfortunately in your own question..."at the right price".  Alas, the right price is always the lowest. (given two identical items, one at ten pounds and one at five, which is the right price?)    D
  2. I used to work a chap back in the 80's who lived on a narrow boat and worked his station from there. Good ground I should think!!!   Have we got a frequency set yet for modeller's QSO?   Since I last posted to this thread I have popped up a trap dipole for 80 and bought another Alinco 70TH. Lovely radios those.   David   G4YVM
  3. The kite is a super plane. I used the teach up at ATS on them and if you are struggling with cross winds, it's not the plane!   11x5 seems big for a 40, I would try the 46 engine and go with a 10x6 prop, see what happens then.   David
  4. Yep, thats exactly what caused my own problems, the "brownout".  I too wondered how they could be reversed, but there you go!   Glad its sorted anyway.   David
  5. Excellent. Bought the GWS A10 today.Seems like a real bargain for the airframe I must say, and its very nicely finished too.   I have ordered the  brushless 55mm fan units so now waiting on them.   D
  6. Forgive me butting in, as you know I know the square root of nothing about 2.4GHz, BUT... I bought my second AR500 today and whaddaya know, it wouldnt bind. I had very similar results to Steve, which I eventually determined to be a "brownout".  Steve, I found that I had v low volts from one pack which was not helped by ,my plugging the non-JR / Spekky plug in upside down.  Caused me fifteen mins of head scratching before I finally gave in, put my specs on and read the polarity legend on the Rx case. D'oh!! Oddly, during brown out the little LED did turn solid.  But I also had the slow brownout flashes, which Steve does not seem to have.  Just a thought Steve.  David
  7. Looking for a Warthog and the GWS seems to be a popular version, though I cant see it doing too well with the supplied brushed motors.   Is it worth buying the no-power system and buying seperate fans / motors etc?  I did look at the old thread on this but since foamyjets have now gone out of business, the thread is no good really.    Actually, just looking at the model in SMC, the no-power one is only twenty quid cheaper than the full kit, so thats a tenner each for the fans if I bin the motors?! All I need then is two brushless motors.  Shouldnt be that hard to Source I guess.   Or is there a better A10 for the money?  I like the idea of the GWS one coz its cheap!!   David Edited By David perry 1 on 22/03/2010 12:30:13

  10. Nobby, well to some extent you are right. However, Claudia Schiffer might also be passe, but if twenty of her came into my living room, I'd make room for 'em all!!!   F86's Passe????? nah!!!!!!!!!   D
  11. Hi cyclops all ai Can see is the skeletons of the 48" hydroboats things.   David
  12. The question doesnt make sense, but I think you mean, if you use Clarke Y, will your plane still be a good sports flying machine.   The answer is "yes".  The full on aerobatics wont be too hot and inverted will struggle, but for general messing around it'll be fine.  If you are making the section yourself it wont be a true Clarke Y, so flatten it a bit more and your sports performance will increase.   Remember that our models fly with everything from undercambered to flat plate and then to fully convex symetry...you really cant go wrong!   David
  13. Hmm, Tim I cant believe that.  Fishtailing in a swept wing jet would lead to dutch rolling -  not good in a fighter and could rapidly lead to over correction and destruction.  I suspect it might have done it, but was fitted with Yaw dampers.  Dunno though.  I cant see them allowing fishtailing in a gunfighter, thats all.   D
  14. Depends what you fancy.  The F86 might make a great pusher.    D
  15. This Sabre just gets better.  I pushed an 1800 lipo into yesterday, s a bit heavier than the 1500 I was using and quite a bit heavier than the recommended pack -  nevertheless, it flew like a true Sabre!  Slow rolls, fast rolls, vertical rolls, big jet loops...brilliant.  And a lovely glide when Ole Major Tom runs out of go-juice!   I'd love to try a 4 cell pack, but a touch tight right now!   I note that at speed the fighter fishtails, so I guess the fin is a bit small.  Still, it 's Korea in my mind!  I'd love to fight against a Mig now.   David
  16. Yes its this one   http://robotbirds.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=29_113&products_id=3207   Might be a bit fragile, but you never know.   David
  17. Anyone got experience of one of these?  My son is whizzing round the sky very capably with his Hobbyzone Cub (excellent model) but really needs to progres to something with more mass, speed and demands on the pilot.   As an intructor I'd pop him onto a Wot 4 and buddy lead, but it seems kids these days don't always work like that!  The times they are a changing. Anyway, I want something he can launch and just about fly that will build him up to the next stage -  and the quick pusher ticks all HIS boxes, but how do they fly?   David
  18. If it must be surgical rubber then Andark Diving in Southampton sell it.   Mind you, I used to use fuel tubing.   David
  19. The things e do are SMALL fry and really not worth worrying about.   Did you know, for example, that for ships now to come along the Channel and up to nothern europe, they must burn low sulphur diesel from 50N?  The trouble is LS fuel is expensive, so they all burn the dirty stuff, then proceed rom 50N to somewhere like Bury Head to refuel on clean fuel, the proceed on their way.  This little excursion adds a day to their journey , so a days extra pollution...just to stop pollution.   I think when I add my little bit of nitro or lithium to the hundreds of ships doing this, it's negligible. Even all the nitro in the modelling world is so tiny as to be a non-issue.   The best way we can help as modellers, if help is needed, is to do what our teachers taught us at school...pick up all the rubbish, even someone elses, leave the site as we would like t find it and don't waste anything.   David
  20. Nobby, Not necessarily a lot of work to convert. Eric is correct of course, but remember some slopers are designed to carry balast too, which can well exceed your lipo and motor.    I have converted many slopers to power and many power to slope, and to be honest, unless you want the perfect and most elegant solution, it's got a good chance of working.   Unless you re utterly in love with the A10, I'd say give it a go. What have you got to lose? Well, yes, an A10, but you'll learn a lot in the process and you might end up with a greaat powered jet!   David
  21. Remember to put the wires through the firewall before you finish all the soldering...otherwise you'll hve big bits and small holes. Dont ask how I know.   D
  22. Woo hoo!!  Had the maiden flight(s) yesterday...brilliant!!  What a superb little foamie jet.  Great big loops and lovely rolls.  Very pleasant indeed!   It made me think about brushless motors though...what was the industrial impetus to brushless motor development? It certainly wasn't us modellers!   david
  23. I have bought a very good condition second hand Warco mini lathe .  I paid 200 quid for it and it really is as new. The local 2nd hand tool store threw in a load of things too, and their good advice is always free.   D
  24. Thanks all.  Allen, trouble is as a new lather, I cant tell which is "best".  The 7x14 is new, has digital readout (Ooooooooo!), a 500w motor blah blah blah and is chinese made and costs 400 quid.  The Warco is ditto, costs ditto (new) but is a bit smaller. The one I have seen is 225 quid!   Oops, one is clearly bigger than t'other!   I'll decide soon and let you know.   Interestingly, and get ready with the tissues, my brother bought a lathe today...an as new Myford super 7, and because the guy selling just wanted rid, he paid.....£400. Yup. four hundred.  He mic'd the lathe...true to less than 1/2 a thou. Blah!!!!!!!!!  ASnd its absolutley as new.  Unreal.   D
