Thanks guys. Ive had an email back from Peter at Peatol, and his look good. Unfortunately I also found Harryuk123 on ebay selling essentially the exact same lathes but called Amadeal. These have a 500w motor and are 7x14 inches, so slightly bigger. The prices are similar to peatol but lower than ARC and Axminster / Sieg. They seem to have good reviews and no real issues with them, well, no issues at all actually, like so many of the lathes. I like the bigger motor though, that sounds good. It seems that whatever I buy in this bracket I am pretty much going to get the same kind of thing...so which is prettiest??? David

I am considering buying a small lathe to make the various metal bits and bobs we so often use and abuse. I have looked at Alex W's micro lathe from Arc Euro, and the one up (in their case the C3), but I have also looked at the Sieg mini lathes C1 ansd C2 from Axminster tools. They appear to be almost the same machine with minot differences, like a SEAT and a VW for example, but the ARC is a little more expensive once they have prepared it for the customer. The Axminster one's tools are slightly more expensive (but pounds, not tens of pounds). Does anyone have experience of the Sieg lathes in comprison to the ARC? Is there any good advantage to the C2, say, at 420 quid rather than the smaller micro at 360 quid? Is the 250w motor much more useful than the 150w?? I have no lathe experience at all, but my son who goes to a school with loads of lathes tells me its easy to produce good work on a lathe and he'll show me how if we have a lathe. Furthermore, when buying such a lathe, what should one buy at the start? Obviously the 11 piece tool pack seems good, as does the drill chuck, but anything else??? David

Ive had the LA for ages and it is a sweet cooking motor. Had a few issues recently with the daft remote needle valve, but all sorted now. It hauls the wot 4 round the sky quite well enough. Its a frugal motor on fuel too - i usulaly use 5 or 10pc but this motor sips it so slowly the stuff might well go off before a tank is used. twenty minute flights a regularity.D

Quick uk do one for helis, should work with your models too! Look good and only 16 quid. Personally I always think a whip antenna on a plane looks silly, but each to his own. I love that bit of trailing wire!!! D

If it's beauty you're after have a look at the plan for Raydic G84. A more beaitful glider you'll not find. I sloped mine, then fitted leccy and it still looked and flew like the beauty she was. I am often tempted to make another one, but so many projects. David -
Slogans? You mean like those stickers we still see everywhere saying "I love chip and pin"? Do I .... D

Goop is a great glue, I used it a while back so it was available over here then. Will epoxy stick to EPP? I'm not sure. Hot glue does though, I use that a fair bit. D -
It should be fine Chris, so long as it gives the right voltage. Provided you use the usual bow and wire, so that the power supply sees a resistive circuit and not a short you'll be fine. You say 200w, I presume thats 12v (13.8RMS) at up to about 15a ? It'll be good. D

Thanks Tim. I have fitted a 1500 lipo to mine but she does now tip the scales a few ounces over weight, but that lipo is hat I have to hand. I will fly her as she is, but will also get a 1200 lipo to see the diffrence...one lipo isnt enough anyway. Thanks again. D

cheers mark, i'll look again d

Tim, thanks. What throws did you set it up with on high rates? Can you remember? David

Well i finished it at last and flew it all last week. Its a decent effort considering it was a rather protracted build, but it flies well enough apart from the fact that I have only got a rather battered and silencerless SC52FS to drive it. Not a bad model at all. Over the last two days I have built an Alfa Sabre...wow that thing has some power with a "li'l screamer" motor in it! I cant wait to fly that! David

I find the usual competition is from Traplet, but feel they lack editing quality. I also hate the way most of the magazines add BIG BOLD sentences at odd places througout the text as if to whet the readers appetite. I notice RCME also starting this little fad. PLEASE STOP IT GRAHAM. It adds nothing and looks childish!!! A rule of thumb for RCME ought to be, if Traplet does it, we dont! Long live RCME! ( but I had no idea it was fifty! Yikes, I feel old now!!) David Edited By Timbo - Administrator on 07/02/2010 19:38:10

Thanks guys. When imade the original post I DID imply only indoor, but after looking at the RB website I saw their indoor/ outdoor offering at just a few in he's bigger and it made me wonder. Ihave some buy not much access to school gyms etc whereas I have much access to a park. I take the point on EPP vs Depron and the effects of mass in a crash etc. I remember flying the gws things (stick?) indoors and out, but they Are museum pieces now compAred to what's flying. David
