  1. Those Spitfires from the Australian squadrons require a unique launching technique
  2. Looks like you guys might be overanalysing the situation I have the original sticky-backed plastic Twinstar still sitting in its original box...   Now assuming that the current Twinstar is pretty much the same aside from a couple of tweaks and better covering,  the Twinstar was specificlly designed as a twin trainer and as such has no adverse handling characteristics with an engine out.   Changing the direction of rotation of one of the propellors will affect the airflow over the airframe as mentioned above and may adversely alter the handling......   Of course I get the feeling you may not be talking about the Hobbico Twinstar after all...
  3. Sounds like a reasonable deal to me...   If it's been laying around for a while all the batteries will need checking out with a proper cycling peak charger. This should report the actual capacity of the batteries.   To ensure safety, you might want to get new Rx & Tx batteries.   The plane will also need to be closely examined to ensure all linkages, hinges etc are secure and safe....   Last but not least, get a couple of spare glow plugs in case the plug has gone off......   all IMHO of course...
  4. Yes, the DX6 is the old parkflyer setup....  It uses DSM and the newer models use DSM2...   This prolly also means that the DX6 won't be compatible with the newer receivers....
  5. I remember some years ago when I was flying in the US, I did a comparision between the OS46LA, Irvine 39 and the OS46FX.  I rated them in that order i.e. the Irvine 39 is more powerful than the OS46LA. This was done by measuring the static prop speed with a tach. using the same fuel formula.  However, it is worth noting that the FX (and probably the AX) is significantly heavier than the LA and in my LT40 this made a noticably difference to the handling even with battery and receiver moved back to obtain the correct CG.    PR: wait... I: wait... L: wait... LD: wait... I: wait...wait... Rank: wait... Traffic:
  6. I learnt to fly and solo when I spent some time over the pond a while ago, so my experience relates to the models in the American market.   I've flown and crashed a mixed bag of planes but two stand out from the rest:   Worst: Hangar 9 Aspire here : A 79in wngspan RTFglider with JR radio and 550 class brushed motor. The kit looks quality, but has insufficient power to actually fly with the suplied power kit.    Best: SIG LT-40ARF here : My 3rd trainer and the one I finally solo'd on. Very gentle and stable flying characteristics, but dosn't like gusty conditions.  Ideal for the weather conditions on the East coast, but not so good when trying to attempt the SAA Bronze in that cold windy place up North. I've seen it available over here in kit form.
  7. DX6 - it's boxed with a AR6000 parkflyer rx and 4 dinky little S75 sub-micro servos..... guess I was an early adopter - bummer eh?   Still, on the plus side, I have a 6EXA which I bought up in Scotland a year ealier which I guess I'll be able to use on 'proper' planes until 35mhz is outlawed and I also still have my trusty old XP8103 which I brought back from across the pond which it looks like I might be able to use with a Spektrum module....Edited By Tony T on 12/10/2009 16:49:31
  8. Hi eveyone,   A couple of years ago I bought an Ultrafly Decathlon from a LMS along with a Spektrum DX6. The ARF kit came with a FRIO-9 motor and an Athena 18 ESC.   I did some work on the 'plane when I first got it but never completed it.   Does anyone have one of these and can provide some insights on how it flies with the supplied equipment?   Link to detailsEdited By Tony T on 12/10/2009 16:00:56
  9. Hi David, Thanks for clearing that up   Guess the Hobbycraft elves are to blame for plonking some October issues on the shelf when the specials had gone....  Personally I'm happy 'bout that, otherwise I would've missed it....... I'll look out for the plans issue in Smiths then...
  10. OK, I'm totally confused........   Just got my planes out of storage, so my 'other half' buys me a copy of RCM&E. Turns out, it's the 'special'. I pops back to the shop a few days later and the october issue is on the shelf. Now I get an email telling about another 'special'.   So, if I were to subscribe what issues would I get? Assuming no months are missd out, that makes at least 14 issues this year......
  11. Hi Mike,   I was in Al's Hobbies today and heard about your club - might be just what I'm looking for.  Can you tell me which of your sites is nearest to central Milton Keynes?   I've just retrieved all my 'plane stuff from storage and am looking for somewhere suitable to get started again...
