  3. I use model technics contest 10 in my engines and plugs in the fs are os f plugs.
  4. I did think that two engines failing could be down to the model or my after care. The 70 didn't fail to a broken gudgeon pin, however I'm not sure what caused it. An email from just engines said this is uncommon for a pin to sheer unless the pin was hard as suggested above or the engine seized. In the 91 the piston, piston ring and liner are undamaged or discolored. On inspection of the engine the piston was free to move. Mike Edited By MikeS on 19/03/2015 16:36:53
  5. Not this one. It is on its side like the 70 and yep I also turn over by hand just in case but good advice. Mike
  6. Taken the rear cover off and found lots of metal fragments. It seems the piston has sheared off the top of the conrod. In actual fact it is the piston pin that has sheared. Mike Edited By MikeS on 17/03/2015 15:57:54
  7. A couple of good points, our flying site is grass and I would not call it dusty but this was my first thought. All models are stored in my attic which is not dusty. Mike
  8. Where do I start. I have three ASP four stokes two of which have lived in my H9 Piper Pawnee. First fs was a 70 which ran perfectly for for many flights and then gave me starting problems. On removing the glow plug metal fragments where found. On inspection the piston, ring and liner where scratched Badly. Second was a 91 which before living in the Pawnee was on my tutor. Today the 91's behaviour echoed that of the 70. Removed the glow plug to see metal fragments. Fuel is filtered when filling and on the way in to the carb. I cannot work out why this has happened twice. Mike
  9. Some will remember my daughter Jessica building her President Perkasa for her Silver Duke of Edinburgh award and will be doing her gold award soon. Jessica is now at college studying animal management with a view to become a Zoo keeper. She has managed to secure herself a place at Chessington Zoo after doing her work experience there. I cannot say how proud I am of her. Well here are some photos of her at Chessington. Mike

    RIP Bob Mahoney

Oh no. Bob and I went to the same BMFA meetings over a few years and helped our club on many occasions. Such a nice great helpful chap. R.I.P Bob. Thoughts with you family and friends. Mike Edited By MikeS on 23/02/2015 17:33:33
  16. No sign my copy yet. Oh well maybe tomorrow. Mike
  17. Went down the patch today. Wind was up around 10 knots and so much rain over the last few days that it was quite flooded. Had a few flights with the Pulse but kept flipping it over with all the water. Had a great time floating in the wind no power needed. Mike
  18. I wouldn't post any new adds or buy anything until they sort out the site. Mike
  19. Just a warning that the classifieds has been hacked. There are two skulls on the front page. Mike
  20. 114 days or 113 now. It's going quickly isn't it. I went down yesterday morning and only me there but with the weather I was not surprised . Doug just an idea could the club not setup a facebook page such as kpmfc. This way it would allow most of us all the keep in touch. If a site cannot be found and the club did close it would be a shame to loose contact with everyone. Mike

    stuck bearing

Yep Erfolg I had the rawlbolt hanging out the bearing adding weight which helped. Cymaz I read through the post and set up my timing as per the photo. Will see how it runs when I next get down the club. Mike

    stuck bearing

Reading all the advice I removed the cover off the front bearing leaving one in place. The rear bearing however is not a cover my mistake. It is the bearing race but looks different from the old one. Both new bearings were sourced from Just Engines. The engine is now rebuilt, however my mind is rusty on the timing, from memory I think it is piston at tdc with the timing dot on the six o'clock. Mike

    stuck bearing

OK. Bit of a delay in the update of the bearing saga due to the Mrs being off. Decided to soak the engine in acetone for an hour then put the rawlbolt in and back in the oven for 20 mins at gas mark 4. Rear bearing fell out in the oven. Can you belive it!!!. Front bearing needed a little help but came out. Finally. Ok New bearings, front has the plastic covers on both sides and rear has only one on one side. I'm think rear should not have any and front should have one on the outside. Mike

    stuck bearing

Graham. Well looking at your photo I cannot see anything like those punch holes on mine. It looks like all the other engines I have changed bearings in. The engine was second hand around a year ago and has been running until a few weeks ago. I can only imagine that either the bearing is being held in by solder/glue or gummed up fuel. The crack case I believe is die cast alloy. If I can get the front bearing out the then I might be possible to drift out the rear bearing. I am near Kingston apon thames. Mike

    stuck bearing

Thanks for all the replies, what should I look for to confirm if the bearing is punched or peening in the case. Mike
