  1. In all 3 clubs I was (or still be) member you were allowed to fly alone. In all 3 clubs I had the situation that sometimes nobody was at the field. So if I am not allowed to fly alone - what to do? go home again? Of course you need to be careful and know what you do - but this is valid even more if there are others - especially as I remember "close shave" situations in all 3 clubs. VA
  2. Yeah, will tell her later about the wings and the conservatory In any case it is warm enough inside to dry whatever you want. countdown one: 12 days until the shed will be delivered. countdown two: 36 days until I get married VA
  3. I ignore the sunlight reflection moaning - I am happy when the sun shines. and as it looks this a good summer. Have only one 2-stroke, well there is also one petrol 2-stroke, rest electric or 4-stroke - so the noise production will be limited. I am quite happy with her conservatory - like it as well of course - and she already asked for a comfortable chair in my shed - so she can knit and chat with me while I am building. We will see how this influences the build quality VA
  4. Hi and welcome to the forum. For me the old media "paper" is still easier to read. Doesn't need internet, downloads or whatever. Works also outside if the sun is shining - where most of the tablets give up   VA Edited By Vecchio Austriaco on 14/07/2014 16:52:32
  5. Interesting. Shows 12 clubs within 15 miles. (Newport Pagnell, north-west border of Milton Keynes) Did know only about 3. In any case - the club where I am currently member is also the closest to me (3 miles). VA
  6. Shed ordered. So the fun - or the frustration - will start on Monday the 28th of July.
  7. good idea, probably I do the same. will get some final treatment of the base by the builder on Monday, after that I can fill the gap. by the way I will fit guttering to the shed as I want to collect the water for watering the flowers. so there will be only a small amount of rainwater between the fence and the shed which shouldn't be a big problem. but at the moment I have to concentrate to the flooring in the house - so the shed has to wait VA
  8. I do not consider it as been thrown out - I prefer to have a workshop where I can make noise, make a mess and close the door behind me. There is a garage, and my intention is to keep it as a garage (currently crammed full with stuff as usual). And luxury - well - my almost wife (44 days left being single) got this - and my man cave will be only 20% of the value VA
  9. @ BEB - concrete arrived at 13:50. I like the English precision. Took them 2 hours to pour it in and to level it.   Roger, the webpage says delivery 22nd of July - exactly in a week I will spend in Turkey for a factory audit. so I didn't order the log cabin as I would like to be there when it will be delivered. Probably the date given by the website is a bit optimistic. I thought about bitumen felt shingles - probably from another company. by the way - the 28 day were about the concrete - this is the time the concrete needs to have its optimum strength. (actually to build a shed on it it is good enough after 2 days...) and here we are. situation 09.07.14 VA Edited By Vecchio Austriaco on 09/07/2014 16:32:39
  10. @ Steve - all the Austrian can make is Most - no comparison to the British cider. So I prefer going to the pub if I feel I need one.... Actually I wanted to keep one tree - a cherry, not too old and in healthy condition, but my better half preferred to start from a blank canvas. All trees gone. @ Jo - Thanks for your wishes - as usual you over estimate my talents. and finally @ Colin, without building regulations I would build the Newport Pagnell Shard - but as this is a no go I stick to the maximum roof height. Don't want to start any arguments with the neighbours after 4 month - have already complaints that the reflected sunlight from our conservatory roof will damage their furniture. VA
  11. being a bad boy I would classify it as a toy VA
  12. it will be a Devon log cabin from the Billyoh range. But I will not order it now - first the concrete has to set properly (I will give him the 28 days ....) and second the living and dining room flooring are waiting for me And yes, there will be a membrane below the concrete. VA
  13. @ David - ahem - I do not plan to move anyway from there (purchased a bungalow - just in case - so my better half got a good size conservatory - and I will have a good size shed. @ WF Even the fence looks new the posts are already a bit rotten. so they would rather break above the concrete they are in. Tomorrow the concrete for the shed base will come at 14:00 and will secure also the fence posts - so if we do not have any serious winter storms in between today and tomorrow I do not see a big problem. @ Erfolg Thanks a lot - I had and have enough DIY at the moment. never buy a house which is the same age as you are VA
  14. Finally, after month of searching an negotiations I moved house and left my lovely shed behind. After a period of 4 month struggling to get the house renovation project going (which was also the reason for missing this years Greenacres fly-in) it is time for a treatment. Time to think about the hobby, and where to do it. Actually this is a lie, as I looked from the beginning for a plot which is big enough to allow a good size shed and I did know where to put it before I bought the house. But now it is time for action. 16.04.14. Day of exchange. This is the lovely site which I selected for the shed. Unfortunately there are massive overgrown shrubs, an apple and a pear-tree. 17.04.14. This solves the tree problem. 18.04.14 rubbish clearing. I ordered the shed -base from the same company which is looking after my driveway, as they are good their order book is quite full. So a little waiting time starts. 07.07.14 digging for the foundation 08.07.14 spreading out the gravel layer 08.07.14 Almost ready for the concrete. 15. small hint - for those who can handle a sewing machine - all glued connections (Duck tape or whatever) have problems with transport in cars and may open or get sticky. I use sewing instead. Cover the edges of a bag with a strip of material folded around the edge - in the example shown I used some Christmas decorative tape- woven of corse. This gives the whole thing a professional look. Temperature in a car or in the loft will no longer give you any glue problems. Also the Velcro pad is sewn on, even it is adhesive covered. 16. The light ply you get in model shops is normally made from poplar. It is true that this is not super strong (see cymaz's link) and not to compare with birch, but it is a very easy to machine material and I like using it for all kind of jobs, not only for models. In comparison to cheap hard-wood ply you find on our island the poplar ply is normally glued properly, so it will not split into it's layers. For some reason this material is overpriced here in the UK. when I was living in Italy poplar ply was (and is) the standard ply you get and it is a lot cheaper. So- if you decide to go to the continent and to Bella Italia by car - you can always smuggle a few sheets into the bottom of your (hopefully flat) car boot. When I say smuggle - there is nothing wrong in buying a few sheets of ply abroad - but your better half may have different ideas about things to bring home from a holiday VA, still stocking some 4 and 6mm Italian poplar ply
  17. Carl, is "she" reading your posts? hope not - or you are in severe trouble. Was impressed about your 2-post long report - so I could read you really enjoyed going to Greenacres. this is for sure compensating a little transport damage. And also be happy that your better half was accompanying you - not many ladies can be convinced to come. To the repair itself: can you not slit it open with a sharp scalpel and use a thin cyano type strip hinge with foam proof cyano and a little bit of kick spray? Regards VA, still in house renovation mess
