  1. Thanks Dave and Alan, it looks like the 24g cloth should be fine then.  I quite like the look of the Eze-Kote as just like it's name it does look very easy: Not sure if it will be as tough as an epoxy resin but it will be much lighter and hopefully enough to toughen up the foam.
  2. Thanks for the reply Alan. Yes I will be attempting to glass a 90mm edf Eurofighter, it should work ok and toughen up the foam airframe. Can you see any problems with it?
  3. Is the Spitfire a split flap? It possibly acts more like an airbrake than a true flap but as Tim said, take her up and try it out, it will be nothing that you can't control on the sticks to give you an idea how much will need to be mixed in on the TX.
  4. Hi guys,I'm after a little advice on which weight cloth to use to cover a foamy model. I'm going to use the Eze-Kote epoxy but I'm a little confused which cloth, do I just go for the lightest available or to make it a tougher skin does it have to be a little heavier?  I was thinking of something like a 24g cloth to keep the weight down, would this be too light? Also, glassing a model, do you lose detail such as panel lines on the foam model can you press the cloth into these?  Thanks for any advice.
  5. Just received an email from the ebay store, the replacement airframe has been shipped and a tracking number supplied. I was going to maiden the one I have today but it's a little too windy at 12kts for a maiden I think? Thanks for the heads up on the LiPo's Tim, ordered a 6s 4000mAh pack to go with the 2 3300mAh packs I have already, should give me ooooh about another 30 seconds duration!
  6. I'm having a very similar experience to yourself and Tony, I've used them plenty of times and the parts usually turn up within a few weeks, I did order a new canopy for a H9 Mustang as mine somehow (blaming the Mrs totally) got cracked ? That was 2 months ago and I've heard nothing from them except of an email to say it will be delayed.I have tried contacting them but haven't received a reply. 7. Well I just need 6S LiPo and I'm in business. It took quite a bit of setting up and replacing parts I wasn't happy with, namely a few ball joints on the canards but they now feel rock solid, the vectored thrust also needed some adjustment on the servos which needed a panel removing and re glueing. All done now though and once LiPo'd up it'll be ready for action.
  8. Please replace the ? for a pound sign, another forum anomaly!
  9. I would guess at £700 easily, maybe knocking on for £1k a year. That's without going through all my bank statements and scaring myself! Edited By Tim Mackey - Administrator on 01/06/2011 08:34:20
  10. That'll be us Ed, you'll also enjoy much more Herc traffic, much less VC-10 and Tri-Star and then later this year, Airbus A330 with air to air fueling pods fitted. Thanks, I look forward to receiving it  Just out of interest Ed, where do you fly?  I'm thinking of setting up a local club but need to know who would be interested. 11. Haha, I feel your pain! I've now run out of space on my workshop walls and ceiling to hang planes.I may (depending on how a job interview goes in 30 minutes time) have to severely thin my fleet out, I'm looking at making the move over to the UAE!  The UAE Air Force have just bought a fleet of 6 C-17's and are looking for experienced guys to move out there and work their fleet. I already work over there for 3 months a year with the RAF so I know pretty much what it's like and the temptation of more than doubling my salary tax free is a little too much.
  12. I think grey is the most common cockpit/flightdeck colour now, all the planes I've worked on have been grey, oh except the F-22 Raptor, I've not worked on it but I've sat inside it and it was mainly black, got some piccys somewhere.
  13. Not sure why that second link isn't working now? Are you still interested in one Tim? I let the Chinese store know how the damage was caused and they are adjusting the packaging. There's also an airframe only kit available on eBay from a British seller.
  14. Posted by James40 on 29/05/2011 22:15:12:  Just watching a few youtube clips on this plane, incredible machine! Not sure why he's hand launching, maybe the surface is too rough for ROG?
  15. Just watching a few youtube clips on this plane, incredible machine!     The V3 has electric retracts with a much more scale retraction speed. Edited By James40 on 29/05/2011 22:20:10
  16. The PZ models aren't really for a windy day either, I'd say anything below 10mph would be fine though, best start praying to the weather gods for some calmer winds.
  17. I always shop from where ever offers the best deal and don't really have any loyalty to one particular store, although 90% of my purchases are for the same store anyway. The PZ P-51 is a great flying plane, very forgiving and nice and easy to fly, you'll love it.
  18. They were my initial thoughts John but the whole episode is documented in the Ebay resolution centre where the messages are stored, I won't close that until the replacement arrives so I have top cover from Ebay if it all goes nasty (which I doubt it will). They have asked me to pay for shipping at $45 or £28 in sterling for the replacement and I've agreed to that as it would have cost me that to return this one.  Now I know they are sending a new one I tried the boiling water trick on the damaged foam, it still requires some glue for the cracks but I'll post the results up later today after I've worked my magic on it, I think you'll be surprised just how amazing boiling water is on these foam models, I know I'm liking the results
  19. Ok, update for you. I raised an eBay dispute with the seller but kept it friendly, I sent the damage pictures to him and he's agreed to send me a replacement bare airframe. I think that's fair of him, my only concern is he's asked me to leave good feedback as I haven't done so yet, he said "once good feedback is left, we will post the replacement and give you the tracking number" I'm sure he's being honest but it just seems a little suspicious, or am I being to over cautious?
  20. Will do Tim, I contacted the seller immediately and he requested the pictures so I've sent the images I posted on here.   If all all else fails, I purchased it through Paypal so I can open a dispute and try and recover some funds.   What I intend to do is push for a replacement airframe to be sent. @import url(http://www.modelflying.co.uk/CuteEditor_Files/Style/SyntaxHighlighter.css);@import url(/CuteEditor_Files/public_forums.css);
  21. Such a shame as this is the latest version of the model with the servoless retracts and damage aside the quality of the aircraft is fantastic!
  22. Well a mixed result really that started off very well when the packaging was removed to reveal On opening the very well packed and bubble wrapped box the airframe was in full view and what an airframe it is, it's huge !! That's where the good news ended unfortunately, the observant amongst you may have spotted the box by the picture of the nose of the plane, it's got some crush damage on it and it doesnt end at the box   That's the damage to the nose, the fuselage is equally as bad although I've no idea how this has happened  Split on both sides down the undercarriage bay and on to the wing mounting areas. So, what to do next, I've contacted the shop in China to either arrange either a refund or replacement, god only knows how you post something this large back to China but I don't see how or why I should repair it when it cost me £200.  Beware if you buy one of these, they don't travel from China very well!
  23. Just going to collect it from Parcel Farce, pics to come soon
  24. I dont see how hitting a mound and snapping a prop can put you off lecky flying? That will happen to an ic prop too surely? I find lecky so much easier, cleaner and quicker to get up and running that I won't go back to fuel. I'm in the process of fitting a 110 electric motor to a Hangar9 P-51 at the moment, so much less hastle than exactly the same plane with a petrol FG-20 I have permanently hanging on my workshop wall!
