  1. As I am looking for a motor for my latest project I have been considering the OS 32 or an E-flite 32 but comparing the manufacturers specs find a big difference in stated power readings, ie 590W for OS, E-flite 32 up to a possible 800W? No actual test data is provided by either i.e. Voltage, prop size etc. So what I need to know is there anyone with actual data for the above? Further has OS understated their data and/or E-flite overstated theirs? Or has one Manufacturer measured input power the other output? It also seems to me to mean that test data be gathered from a standardised measurement and test regime instead of the rather adhoc way used by all at the moment. Of course it maybe deliberate in order to confuse those of us who buy their products. Aghhhh.
  2. Yep I wiped out all the settings on one model of mine, realised after I had left the TX switched on when I removed the batteries to recharge. The model type & name were still there but everything else had disappeared. Big OOPs. Only realised it when doing preflight check as the rudder & elevator were reversed. Good thing I always do preflights otherwise disaster. Kiwikanfli Stupid Dept
  3. Thanks MR Ashby, great video, great camera work and you can really see how big those Corsair props are/were.
  4. Another from Dunedin New Zealand where the best flying is winter time!!!!! Memeber Dunedin Model Aero Club **LINK**
  5. I'd just like to win something so I will toss my hat in the ring too please
  6. No thanks kiwi g I don't want a Hobbyking one if they churn out a Lanc with only a 1100mm wingspan think how big a Whirlwind would be!!!!! Hey but your right maybe a competion amongst all the Designers for a particular design to MOD (RCME?) specs, now that could be interesting.
  7. Correct Daithi, the man at the top wanted one for his hanger so the thread goes. For my part I must congratulate TN for keeping us supplied with an alternative to the plethora of US Warbirds on the market be it plans, kits or ARF's. My club is almost overwhelmed by them plus on Saturday I find there are not one but three HK B-17's coming. (Who did win the war anyway?) I for one won't build the Harvard as I think they are over represented here (both as models and the real thing, 12? I think at one Warbirds over Wanaka one year). As I am nearing completion of a TN Miles Monitor build and conversion to Leccy, my next project is for a Fulmar, Firefly or a Whirlwind if Tony does one of these I'm a starter(CG maybe tricky with the Whirlwind?).
  8. I don't think those people living in flooded Thailand or Fiji agree with you!!!!
  9. Add my name to the list too please. Kiwikanfli Antipodes Dept.
  10. Having always liked the Sea Fury and read the forum re Eflite's version I decided to buy it when it was re-released. Back ordered from AMain Hobbies it arrived a month ago including an Eflite Park 480 & two digital servo's for retracts. Thought I would decide on the other servo's when it arrived. So found HXT900 from my spares bin fitted no problem, didn't see any point in using Eflite servo's except for retracts. Hobbywing funfly 40amp esc & Hitec 6 channel rcvr. First thing noticed was no double sided tape anywhere as shown in the manual, but have a supply of commercial tape which seems to work well although hasn't flown yet. Next was the great gangly tailwheel strut and the tailwheel which was severly egg shaped - both replaced. The rest of build went ok except when it was time to fit prop & spinner, Agh the prop adaptor is not long enough with only the prop mounted there is only two threads exposed! Not enough to hold the prop on let alone mount the spinner & supplied washer. As for the spinner cheap as it is, it's a counter rotating one? So am waiting for a reply from Horizon Hobbies in the States about that. I know it's not an expensive kit but having read good reports about Eflite thought the quality control would be better. The finish of the EPO is not up to same standard when compared to FMS, lots of injection mould markings all over! I also have reservations about the strength of the motor stick mount (Extra epoxy rqd?) plus the landing gear as I fly off a grass runway. The Eflite servo's buzz madly when the retracts are up. EPA makes no difference, any ideas? When I get the prop problem sorted will see how she fly's then I may add some detailing, but for the moment we await Horizons reply. 11. I made one from scrap steel similar to the one Paul makes, the secret to forming even coils is to lock the wire so that it doesn't feed in as you are bending the other end. If you don't do this you end up with kinks instead of a nice smooth coil. Paul's is the only one commercially available I have seen that does this, so I don't know how the others can make good springs especially when bending heavier gauges.   Oh and Timbo, can I use your workshop I can't find the bench in mine?
  12. Since coming back to RC have been surprised how dear stuff is in the UK compared here in NZ. Thirty plus years ago used to buy a lot from the UK usually VAT free. But I just compared pricing of covering here at 3 LHS (By local I mean within a THOUSAND miles!) who do mail order.   It all looks comparable with UK prices; Solarfilm 2m $25 to $30 = 12.50 to 15.00 pounds Solartex 2m $40 = 20.00 pounds Solartex 10m$170 = 65.00 pounds   This includes 15% GST (VAT).   However where we have it good is that there is no Duty or GST on personal imports of Toys & Hobbies up to $399, so as long as we keep overseas shipments below that we are sweet. You in the UK sure get whipped by the Taxman.   Also you seem to get stung with high Freight/Postage costs, stuff I have brought from China or the US has been resonable in that way. As an example I brought in a box of balsa from Tower Hobbies mid last year, (Balsa was almost unobtainable here at the time & still is thanks to the Boat Building Industry here and in Aus.) And saved a bundle as well!! Freight on that by USPS priorty was roughly $45 the box measured 40x12x12 inches, and weighed about 8 - 10 pounds. You have to be careful if you have a choice of shipper espc. from China, Registered mail or Standard parcel post is the best - cheapest & quickest. DHL no faster, EMS is not even recommended by a couple of Chinese Suppliers!!!
  13. Finally found a suitable plan after a whole lot of late night tea & sticky buns on the interweb. It's a 60inch span from RCM plans, arrived two weeks ago and should convert to leccy power without too much trouble. Now if I can just finish the Miles Monitor I might be able to make a start by this winter.
  14. Ah well Martin that's because Captain Cook was going to discover Bedfordshire after he stopped off for a sandwich in Hawaii but never made it!!!!
  15. Well my copy arrived today the 17th here in Kiwiland (Thats tomorrow for those of you on GMT +0hrs). As per normal looks good and it always surprises me how fast mine appears in the letterbox! In fact this time the inks not even dry as it is smudging as I take a quick peek at Danny's article or is that because he's our newest scribe?   I am not joking about the smudging either might have to let it cure a bit or it will be unreadable.   Regards Kiwikanfli (Inverted!!)
  16. Thanks Steve finally a left hand trim cutter I can use now if only I can find a left hand scapel my left handed problem will be solved. Seriously though getting a nice straight line on wing edges is hard to achieve using a single edge blade but without some sort of guide so off to Macas I go.   Tim Aspinall -- putting on the Weight Dept.
  17. Brilliant, December issue arrived here (New Zealand) today the 18th, looks like it's packed full of goodies, pity my wife is dragging me to her works Xmas do, reluctantly going kicking & screaming cos I want to stay home & read!!!!!!
  18. Hi Thanks Leccyflyer,   It's a possibility but has anyone one built one? A bit more detail would help as I intend to make it as scale as possible.
  19. Has anyone got a plan or know where I can get one for a Fairey Fulmar? Thinking of building one as my winter project next year - 50 to 60 inch span suitable for leccy. My father flew them in the Fleet Air Arm in WW11 and said of all the aircraft ( including Spitfires, Seafires, Rocs, Harvards, Defiants etc) he flew it was the nicest to fly. So I thought as a tribute to him I might build one, but I can't find a plan! At 92 he's still going strong so I guess I have time!
  20. Is it an Edge, a Harvard, a B29 or even a Tiger Moth? No because now it's a box of bits!!!!!!!
  21. ARGH - TORTURE,   It's like asking a woman how much they spend on clothes a year Answer = not that much.   YEA RIGHT
  22. Well I guess at the end of day it all comes down to what each of us is comfortable with. But (always a but) I did not want to be a test bed for a system which although it will probably be sorted and give good service eventually, it obviously has some issues which could involve some added expense on the flier, i.e. smashed aircraft.   As a side issue I have found that my Orange Rcvrs seem to perform as well as the AR6200's I have and have found no difference in range or performance and when first connected don't indicate a brown out if you are a little timid when plugging them in. I use seperate 4mm bullet type which may contribute to this and unless you get a solid connection 1st time the AR6200's little LED flashes like mad which means unplugging, switching off theTX and starting again. If you fly like that then you won't know if there was a problem during flight.   Anyway its a perfect day here - blue sky, 18 degrees no wind so I am off to you know where...........................................................................
  23. I agree Tim and normally I don't fly to LVC but telemetry would have helped when that 1 cell went down. I was probably going for 30secs or so before I realised it was deadstick as I was only cruising. I could not even get a blip of throttle after shutting off for a few secs as you can normally when cell voltage will increase with no load. Also I guess that the other problem as in your case with 30? rcvrs is that we are locked into one system on 2.4. Great for the manufacturers! One up for the old crystals?
  24. Thats the conclusion I reached Lee. I have five rx's (2 spekky 3 Orange) which I will keep and use with DX6 at least in the meantime. Aurora rx's aren't that expensive anyway - $45US for 6 channel upwards and voltage telemetry to boot, which I could have used the other day when went deadstick after only 8 mins cruising around. Turns out one cell on a new (4flights I think) Turnigy 3S dropped to 2.4 volts. recharged ok and has performed ok since - strange. Ideas anyone? That actually raised another question, with ESC set for soft cut, it seems it makes it hard to tell that batt. voltage has reached cutoff when flying on low throttle - I guess telemetry & alarm set will help. Sorry Mr Mackey as Norman Stanley Fletcher used to say.
