  2. i'm not confidrnt enough yet to build from scratch so a kit will be better for now.at least i know it should fly straight out of the box, provided i build it right.
  3. i still got my bike, but iv'e not ridden for 10 years.i doubt i ever will ride again, i got a sports car instead. never going to sell the bike as it was my fathers first and has been in the family since new. its having a rebuild at the mo and a minor update.
  4. i left my heart in san francisco, high on a hill she calls to me......... wow that is one comprehensive suggestion.just had a thought, i will need a charger won't i.i can see this getting expensive. all i need to do now is buy it all and try to hide it from the wife.Edited By tony bennett on 03/01/2011 17:45:33
  5. i will be asking for advice on motor, propeller and speed controller selection very soon.
  6. i don't want an artf plane as i still like the build as much as trying to fly, more sence of achievement if you have built it yourself. must be the old man in me.
  7. to build and run an electric car is more poluting and carbon damaging than running a petrol one. have you seen the transport miles that go into making a battery for one of these.
  8. 46.....46. i got 4 and i'm starting to get the thats enough now look. but i do tell her that she suggested it as a hobby.
  9. that looks like the jobby. i best start saving my pension up then. ta
  10. hello folks.well i have decided that i want to build a traditional kit style glider with electric assist that i can fly in the school playing field behind my house, so not a huge wingspan.3 channel rc i should think.  any ideas as i'm newly returned to this sport.   Edited By tony bennett on 02/01/2011 22:52:59
  11. i got thisits only a cheapy but as it's my first time flying for nigh on 40 years it will do for now.
  12. the black box. double expresso mocha lite de caf please.
  13. well i have been lucky so far.my wife actualy suggested that i took up a hobby. so its all her fault.i still have to be careful about what i buy or spend, but so far i have only bought 1 kit she didn't know about. the rest have been presents. not sure what will happen when i buy my first proper rc plane though. i might be in the bed next to you in st. peters, though i expect the royal surrey will be my point of call as its nearer.
  14. shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh no it hasn't.i need to build all the kits i got for christmas first anyway. though the 27" wingspan spitfire might end up getting converted  to rc during the build.
  15. i need to sort the rudder out as it turns more right than left. its only single channel and the reciever and servo are all built into 1 circuit board, i said it was cheap and old. the first rc plane i ever flew was a keil kraft scorpion single channel, with a mc gregor push button transmitter. 1 push for left and 2 for right. now that was scary. i have allready started thinking about fitting an electric motor in the front so i can power it up to height. he he the bungie is only single strand elastic and the peg is 12" long so it should be fine, as i said its only something to get my wings back before i build something better. in time i will build my self a powered trainer for 3 channel, but for now i will play and see how long it lasts.   Edited By tony bennett on 01/01/2011 17:07:57   Have a peek at this  please Tony. Thanks. David.           Edited By David Ashby - RCME Administrator on 01/01/2011 19:40:06 Edited By David Ashby - RCME Administrator on 01/01/2011 19:40:57
  16. well i decided to try out the cheap single channel glider i got for christmas.  its nothing fancy but it will do nicely for my first tentative steps.after spending 30mins putting it together we climbed over the fence into the back field.one hand launch test glide and all seemed fine, so we banged in the peg for the bungie launch, hooked up the line and let it go.she climbed gently and i proceded to turn left. then right and then we landed.yay first flight over. spent the next hour flying round in short flights as i couldn't get enough height to get a long flight in.but at least i managed some circuits and landings with no damage. its a wee bit muddy now.lol need to find a hill next so i can get some longer flights in. but a good time without any damage.
  17. just following the instructions. i have a spit to build next, might convert it to simple rc maybe. i need to save for an rc trainer next.but i will build all the kits i got for xmas first to get my hand back in on building.
  18. my p38 lightning free flight rubber powered model under construction.
  19. thanks for the welcome. rc has changed one hell of a lot since i last flew.i had a mcgregor single channel set up, the one where you had to push a button once for left and twice for right and the wiring took a degree in electronics to understand. lol  i still have the transmiter and reciever under the bed, must be an antique now.  still i thing a 3 channel set up would be best for me, as i don't plan to be doing any stunts just yet.thinking electric for motive power but as its all greek to me i will be asking many many stupid questions.  tony.
  20. Hiyaafter 40 years away from any form of model flying i have decided to have another bash. The last thing i flew was a keil kraft scorpion single channel high wing trainer, i crashed it. lol and threw it all in the bin. Then girls and motorcycles arived on the scene and that was that. now 40 years later i have some spare time and thought i would have another bash.i have been building some guillows rubber powered free flight models, hurricane, spitfire, me109 and the p38,its ok for a bit of fun but chucking them around the field get boring after a while.  my wife got me an old single channel glider for christmas that i want to have a bash with in the new year, but i would like to get some ideas on whats best for a total dweeb like me to fly as a first powered plane. i love the building part, the smell of the glue and dope really gets me going. lolso a self build trainer would be my ideal.please bear in mind that i don't have alot  money to spare for my new hobby so be gentle with me. tony.
