  1. Thanks everyone for responding to my post earlier this evening - In view of the comments regarding the ONE visit rule i shall wander down and see how it goes. What a shame the use of a clubs facilities was abused, if correct. John
  2. A balsa basher here - not a flyer yet - not a club member yet, i searched the internet for a local club and was directed to the BMFA site where i found a club near me. I studied this clubs website and reading through their rules it stated that guests were allowed ONE (in capitals) visit and thereafter a £94 fee was payable. My idea was to turn up at a few meetings as a spectator, introduce myself, talk to a few of the flyers, and see what goes on etc. That was about 9 months ago and i never did go down to their field cause i would have felt very uneasy. I've been left with the impression that this particular club is not very welcoming wanting a joining fee on a second visit or have i got it wrong? John
  3. Hi Barry i was resigned to the fact that each landing was going to cost me a little less than the price of a pint - i have set the prop horizontal - possibly wishful thinking that it will save it from breaking. i will look into a nose wheel as you suggest but will do a mock-up first to see how it looks - i don't want to spoil the lines of the model - thank you for your response John
  4. Hi will -0, I did decide to alter the construction of the Gentle Lady wing and sheet the leading edge. I also added 1/8" stringers so the wing now resembles a Dynaflite Butterfly. Unable to purchase 1/4" steel rod and tube for the wing joiners, I had to use two x 3/16" plus a very small rod to align the wing. I struggled to bond the brass tube with glass tape and epoxy so finished up boxing in the tubes with balsa. A lot of sanding now before covering. John
  5. Now's the time Rich - she will be built for summer. And now the wings - 8'2" x 11 1/2" chord - the rib plan is 4' x 2' and of all those ribs i think there are only 8 that are alike due to the covered centre section/partially covered leading edge and the tapered outer section. Ah well here goes.
  6. A quick mock up for some pictures - horns fitted - 14SWG pushrods bent and fittings soldered on and set up to servo's. Need to order some more 1mm nuts for horns (lost in carpet) - Thats the fuselage just about finished - I usually just pack the receiver/battery/fuel tank in with foam. John
  7. In appreciation, I sent Outerzone a one off donation last year and received back a very nice thank you.
  8. Too late Percy - I got cross with it half way through covering and took the sandpaper to it - surprisingly nothing stuck on the iron after that.
  9. Finished covering tailplane today - only an average job - despite three coats of sanding sealer and flatting after each coat the Solarfilm is showing marks all over. In mitigation the non stick finish on my newish sealing iron is coming off in flakes allowing glue/sealer to build up on the iron.
