  1. Hi weasel. An old method you could try is leave it to soak in vinegar. I have used this method on old car engines being a mild acid it wont damage the alloy.
  2. I use a product called Vellum paper. It comes in a4 size an is a stiff plastic like tracing paper. I trace all parts an cut them out with scissors they are stiff enough to draw round onto balsa or ply. I pin them first so they dont move. I dont have aclue what vellum paper is used for i found it at a local art shop. And it was only 99p for 5 sheets. I keep all the templates stored for future use as i do tend to crash a lot.
  3. I,m always tempted by new plan before i finish the last one. But at the moment i have a cambrian p51d funfighter near completion. A miles magister almost there. And a Lysander awaiting its undecided livery. Lastly a completed but as yet uncovered Pixie major the big one. 58inch. Just enough room in my shed for me an radio now.
  4. Erfolg I too lost my garage with a house move 2yrs ago. So now have a 7 by 4 converted outside loo. And yes the WC.has been removed. All my larger models in the loft so i set my build size to 48inch wingspan. I like yourself look on with envy, but a new shed is in the pipeline. But as i know all will agree when there is a will theres a way. Dave.
  5. Thanks for a look at the original plan i have not seen one. But i note the differance is the rear of the rib is 1.32 higher not the front as on the RCME freebie. I think i was politly try to say check everything against plan before assembly. Not sure how i got same posting twice sorry.
  6. Hi spikey i.m sorry to you see you not having a good time so far building your MT. The problem by what you have described is the ribs are cut wrong. The plan shows the top of the rib forwood of the spar is 1.32.lower than the spar. I personally build straight from plan. Several evenings just looking at the plan and solving any problems. Then from templates i make a kit of bits. Try all parts against plan. When happy i dry assemble before commiting to glue.I found the MT a pleasure to build .Hope the rest of your build goes well spikey. As i said in earler reply its a great little aircraft that flys well. But the name on the plan after all is Mr David Boddington.
  7. Hi spikey.I built mine from the free plan in RCME. I built it for a paw diesel then changed my mind and went electric. I made an extra former slotted to slide on the exsisting engine bearers with hardwood blocks behind said former to screw it too the bearers. It also allowed for and aft adjustment for the prop clearance. I made mine with no UC. I also found loads of info on this forum. Wonderful little aircraft mines getting bit tatty now so another build on the to do list. regards dave.
  8. Well i.m 63 and retired. i think i agree that the high 60 to 70 on the poll is to do with retirement. Its the age when you think blimey i dont have to get up in the dark every morning an go to work. As for myself i dabbled on and off with aeromodelling since i was about 13. But now the shed has been transformed into my den where i can loose myself and be 13 again. It would be great if we could get the youngsters to enjoy this rewarding hobby. I think the answer to that is down to us.
  9. Hi mike. mine is from an old kit my stepfather gave me. he probably had it for god knows how long. He is 83yrs young. I will finish it and fly it and enjoy a nostalga trip because the ajax was my first build way back in 1963. regards dave.
  10. Hi mike. I have an ajax i built a while ago. not got round to covering yet. Other projects have took over. As they do!! The prop on mine is plastic and 12inch diameter. Hope this helps. regards dave.
  11. Hi My wife bought me the extreme64 for christmas. I like yourself having a few problems. If you go on realitycrafts website at the bottom of their home page there is a sim support guide and troubleshooting help. I found it very helpful and am enjoying my planemaster. Hope this helps. Dave.
  12. What a project. Stuff of dreams i would say. I will be following with great interest as i live in Rochester and Shorts was a massive part of our history. One of our local pubs is called the Canopus. Thankyou for letting us admire your work. Dave.
