Between a GWS Spitfire and an RCM&E Weekend Wren, I've probably clocked no more than 1hr of flying. Spend more time building (and rebuilding😬), which I find more rewarding.
Might learn properly before I fly this one 🫣.

Hi, back in 1992, I built 3 models from Radio Modeller plans....
- Tequila Sunrise
- Aztec Two Step
- Gigolo
I know the first two were by yourself but the Gigolo was by Dave Ridgway. Is Dave still active in RC planes ? I'm building a new Gigolo, was thinking of making electric and would love some tips......Hi,
Well.... the Gigolo got chewed on by the cat towards the end of the build, the Aztec Two Step is a work in progress but the Tequila Sunrise is done and ready to go.
Weighs in at 785g (27.7oz) ready to fly. Might add a small 3D printed radial engine inside the cowl and just need to fine adjust the battery position for balance and then........... I'm too nervous about flying it. Not to mention that I've not really flown anything particularly successfully !!

@Trevor Crook to answer your original question, on the Vortex Vacform website, the canopy is listed as CN100 ......

How are you getting on @Trevor Crook ?
With a little bit of assistance from @kevin b and suddenly finding I have some (unwanted) spare time, I've finally got started. First the wings and motor mount. Little bit of adjustment and will be ready to break out the glue.

Interesting thread. I was just about to push the button on digital subscription and thought .... I'll just check if there are any problems.
Glad I did.
My intention was to subscribe, download the .PDF plan for the the Vans RV-4 from Feb '21, drop in on the local copy shop and print at A1. Then I could continue making parts for it - my cat decided that some of the parts tasted nice and were good to play with !
I think I might hold off until plans are scanned at 1:1. Seems a pointless expenditure otherwise.
In the past I have got the magazine plan scanned but have found that it wrinkles due to the folds and thin paper, so lines are not always straight and any misalignment can play havoc with overall lengths or positioning.
I have had more success in redrawing plans using AutoCAD. Printing from a PDF generated by AutoCAD gives an excellent quality. It takes a lot of time to draw though.

I am starting to cut the parts for this plan. Most of them rough cut so far. Hopefully by the end of this weekend, they'll be mostly done.
I was also going to look for the same canopy. Not got round to it yet.

I thought Solarfilm had stopped. Never seemed to find it difficult to get the colours I wanted though.
Havn't tried other covering materials, not sure what to try.
My next build will be the Vans RV-4 from RCM&E Feb '21. It feels like I should be covering with something that can be sanded and sprayed.
Did look up SIG Koveral but that seems to be difficult to get hold of.
I've kept away from spray because of the weight concerns.

I'm sure this has been covered a thousand times before (sorry) but would tissue paper, dope and a spray on colour be a good alternative to Solarfilm ?
I find working with Solarfilm difficult/frustrating/awkward and don't always get the finish that would like.
I recently built the Tequila Sunrise from the 1992 Radio Modeller plan by Peter Millar and have a few wrinkles, loss of colour where the covering has moved, sharp edges etc.
As I've made it electric, I'm not concerned with fuel proofing. Is there a reason to use Solarfilm (or similar) instead of tissue/dope ?

Reminds me of a funky looking plane I built from a Radio Modeller set of plans back in 1992.
Plane has long gone. I started building a new version a while back but the cats found it one night and thought it was a chew toy.

Just about to start.
First time I've built a jet aircraft.
Got the Avro Avian on the go at the moment and hoping this will be a more "solid" aircraft.

I'm just about to start building from the free plan in the Oct '21 issue.
Has anybody else started it, or finished already ?
SCRATCH THIS.....I've just found the same question already asked elsewhere but don't know how to uncreate a topic.

I don't seemed to have had a problem with getting a copy of the magazine (bar a couple of occasions during lockdown).
Of course I don't subscribe, so I just go to a shop - WHSmiths, Tesco etc and pay for it.
Thanks for keeping going RCM&E, while others (notably for me, Radio Modeller) have fallen by the wayside over the years.

OK, can anybody give me a bit of advice on the landing gear struts. The detail around this area seems a little vague.
There's a note on the drawing about an inverted V that perhaps passes through the underside of the fuselage and connects to the twin 1/16" laminations of ply on the former. What is that talking about ?
First time I've made this kind of arrangement and with sketchy detail, I can see how the area would be strong enough (although it obviously must be).
Cheers......

Still moving..... just not quickly..... perhaps be ready by summer.
Currently trial fitting the main fuselage parts before removing the paper templates and glueing.
-
Is there one ? Have I just not found the thread ?
-
I'm happy with it so far. Very time consuming making all of the parts but lazer cutting seems cheating, at least with this one.
The biggest question so far is whether I fit the wing servos flat, not removable and less visible, or vertical with the top sticking out.

Would like to...... it currently sits in the queue, behind a Vans RV-4 and an A10, both from RCM&E plans..... perhaps by next Christmas !?
