Yellow Aircraft 1/5 Spitfire XIV rebuild/repair

Hi Jon, any update on your project? Has it flown yet? -
Ok, I see. Well, I will keep on using the 10% oil on all my 4 strokes. Maybe I do the modification as suggested by Aussie Glow
-
I assume a typo - so a FG30? And yes, anything can of course happen.. a fellow modeller had a con rod big end seizure on his FA-300 twin with a fuel blend of 15% good quality oil. Who knows why, maybe the engine overheated?
-
(This is an old thread but still valid, I suppose) I think you covered this topic very nicely, Jon. On your remark on engines without bushed conrods (Saito): what you say about 15% oil sounds reasonable. However, I assume all Saito petrol engines (FG serie) are recommended to be run on 15-20:1 oil content which means about 5-6% oil in the blend. And the Saito petrol engines don't have a bushed con rod. So, my amateur thinking says if they do not seize why should a glow Saito be any different with a 10% oil content? As a side note and If my memory serves me: I think I used to run my FA-125a with the same fuel as my Lasers (10% good quality synthetic oil + 5% nitro and the rest methanol) without any ill issues.

Not quite a Flair model but a Bristol F2b, though: https://www.modelaviation.com/maxfordbristolf2b I wonder if an OS FS 70 Surpass would be enough? This model is somewhat smaller than the Fair kit. As a benchmark a friend of mine is flying a Flair Fokker DVII with the OS FS 70. Any thoughts? The manufacturer is, as usual, crazy with the engine recommendation.. -
Maxford 70" F2B Bristol - what size an engine?

Thanks John, I will check the thread you mention -

Thank you for your comment, John. What you say makes sense. How about the wing span of the Flair model? I tried to google it but I could not find any info -Artto -
Gents, Have you experience on this model: https://www.modelaviation.com/maxfordbristolf2b The instructions call for an 90-120 size engine. Any thoughts or recommendations for the engine? I wonder if the Flair kit is about the same size? The flair the supposed to fly well with a Laser 80, as far as I know.

Thanks Dave, I upgraded the firmware to V9.0. Many here have been very helpful offering assistance in case I feel the need to downgrade to v4.0. Let’s see, at least things to be fine for now.

gents, how do you take backup files on the current firmware before carrying out an upgrade?

ESM Focke Wulf center of gravity?
Artto Ilmanen replied to Artto Ilmanen's topic in Scale and Semi-Scale kits
Oh I see. Now that you mention it I can remember it. Anyways, I'm proceeding with the help of your & Jon's kind advice. I just bought some 9kg lead in a scrapyard so now I should be good for about 10-30 models what comes to lead needed to balance the models. 🤣 -

Thanks Ron and Jon, All clear. I will also remove the tail wheel servo and I change the batteries to lighter ones. Let’s see if I can get to nearer 15,5lbs to start with
