  1. Yes, I actually maidened my electric powered Harmon Rocket today, I've been waiting for the right conditions and I thought today was the day, as it happens, I found the breeze was across the strip, this made for an interesting first landing (does it come in fast with no head wind !!!), it took the length of the strip and the fields electric fence to stop it ( no damage ). Dean, I see what you mean about her bouncing back into the air. My first impression is she flys well and is very responsive, much sharper than my BH Renegade. I'm looking forward to getting out with her again soon, but, I need to tame the landings down abit. HELP. 2. I'm hoping to maiden my electric Harmon Rocket tomorrow, has it any traits I should be ready for?. Any last minute advise welcome. Wish me luck, Nev.
  3. Hi Stuart and welcome to the forum, You've come to the right place for help and advise, so if you have any questions just ask, someone here will have the answer. For what it's worth I think you will find fixed wing cheaper to get started, a good heli and gyro won't be cheap, you can then move on to helis when you've had many hours practice on the sim. Hope you find employment soon. Nev. Edited By Racing Snake on 28/04/2013 18:51:38
  4. With regards to Pete B's question above about how a newbie sets up a plane to fly correctly, well, today when I maidened my Acro Wot foam-e I had to put in a load of down elevator trim, does this mean she's needs a little weight taken off the tail? (20 grams added to tail to balance) Nev.
  5. Hurrah, I actually got out today, only the second time this year. I found I was a lttle rusty (no surprise there) but soon got the thumbs going in the right directions. 4 flights with the Renegade, maidened my Acro Wot foam-e and a quick thrash with the Habu. Lets hope for more days like today and I may just get around to maidening my Seagull Zlin and Harmon Rocket. Nev. P. S. All seems well with my newly repaired DX8 (RF board replaced)
  6. I'm left handed and fly mode 2. I don't mind left or right handed circuits but profer to takeoff and land left to right, don't know why, just seems more natural. Nev.
  7. Today I actually got round to doing the power checks on my electric powered Seagull Zlin 50. Here’s the electric set up I’m using followed by the results. E-Flite Power 90 Turnigy K Force 120A-HV OPTO V2 5-12s Brushless ESC Hobbywing 5-7.5A UBEC Zippy Flightmax 5000mAh 4S1P 30c X 2 in series APC 16x8 prop. 1799.5 Watts @ 57.55 Amps, Prop RPM = 8790. The final weight is about 9lbs so that's 200 watts per pound ....If you have any thoughts please air them. Nev.
  8. Hi Chris and welcome to the forum, If you have any questions just ask, someone here will have the answer. Perhapes we'll meet at Greenacres & RCM&E Fly in Link, it's just down the road for you. Nev.
  9. Mind arrived today but I'm saving it to break the monotony off work tomorrow night, shhhhhhhhh, don't tell the boss
  10. Hi Stewart, I agree with IanR when he says get a simulator, it costs nothing to crash and you will eventually stop crashing, well, less anyway. Using a sim alongside lessons with your instructor can only help. I had to wait a number of weeks for an instructor to become free at my club so I bought a sim and put as many hours into it as I could whilst I waited. When the instructor became free and allowed me to fly for the first time using a buddy box I'm sure he thought I'd flown before and was just using him for refresh lessons. I know this sounds a little big headed but it really did work for me, I highly recommend it. Nev.
  11. Hi Paul, I hope you and your son enjoy your new hobby, it sounds like your hooked already. Nev.
  12. Hi Noba and welcome back to the forum. Nev.
  13. Hi John and welcome to the forum, Looking at this months poll would suggest that your never to old to enjoy this hobby, I hope your return is a happy one. Nev.
  14. Thanks Shahid, I have really enjoyed the videos so far and look forward to the rest of the series. Keep up the good work. Nev.
  15. Thanks Mike, I'll keep it in my trainer for now and give it a try, I'm sure it will be fine. Nev.
  16. You reckless fool Tim I'll give it a go Thanks, Nev.
  17. Unfortunately I didn't have the telemetry fitted to either plane. Would you beleive it, I fitted the telemetry to an AR8000 in my trainer but when I connected the battery it would take upto 20+ seconds for the satellite receiver to connect so I think there may be a problem there, both the main receiver and the TM1000 connected striaght away . I decided to leave the trainer at home as space was limited today. I spoke to Gary at Horizon Hobby (again) and he said that it was quite normal for receivers to take a little time to connect but this has not been my findings, normally both receivers show a solid light almost instantly the battery is connected. Any thoughts? Nev.
  18. Hi Steve, Do you have the instructions for the ESC? If so do you have the options under timing for 0/3.75/7.5/11.25/15*/18.75/22.5/26.25 Deg. If you do, looking at this LINK shows that you should set the ESC to 22.5 deg for a Power 90 I hope this helps. Nev.
  19. Hi Mike, Its encouraging to see you are flying with the DX8 without any issues at the moment, hopefully you've put the problems to bed with the RF board replacement. As for the Pulse, well at least you found the reason for the battery draining and can repair it. I've put the results of my range checks on your "Near fly away!!!" post. Nev.
  20. I finally got to the local park today to do some range checks with my newly repaired DX8, it had a new RF board fitted. All results shows when failsafe kicked in. Both Receivers are DSMX Here are the results for the AR8000 in my Renegade, Nose on = 57 paces Right side = 69 paces Rear = 75 paces Left side = 90 paces The results for the AR600 in my Acro Wot Foam-e Nose on = 65 paces Right side 68 paces Rear = 71 paces Left side = 68 paces I’m happy with the results and hope to get up to our field soon and do some flying, that’s the only way I will get the confidence back totally. 22. Cheers Mike, I look forward to reading your post later. Nev.
  23. Hi Robert, What about the KMS Quantum 2814/09 as recommended. Nev.
  24. Hi Mike, So far the results look encouraging. I look forward to your test results using the Pawnee. Keep up the good work. Nev. P.S. I have yet to test my DX8 as our field is still very wet, but, I will do a range check somewhere somehow soon.
  25. Hi Shaun and welcome to the forum, I learnt to fly with a Tutor 40 and can confirm that it flies really well, the only problem I found was that the undercarriage bends a little on all but the best of landings, that said, it's easy to straighten out. My Tutor is electric powered so I can't really give advice on ic power but the Irvine .46 sounds ideal. I agree with you about the enjoyment got from putting these planes together, it's a blessing considering the weather we've had, the only problem I have now is after months of bad weather I have a number of models to maiden. Nev.
