Here’s a photo of the model……. My first foamie, well used but in reasonable condition. The problem with the motor not rotating was with a second hand AR400 rx installed, now I’ve got the good info above about port allocation I’m going to fit my brand new AR620 and see if I can isolate the rotation problem to the old rx.

Great info from all replies, thank you gentlemen, I consider myself educated. For info the model is a foamie Art-Tech Cessna 172 that I acquired recently without an rx. My DX6i is also fairly described as being in the ‘old’ category, I’m not sure if it has the channel allocation set up shown above, but I’ll go read the manual…… 😎

I recently bought the foamie without an rx. I’ve installed and bound a Spektrum 4ch rx to my DX6i. Everything operates normally except the motor……which twitches through 10 or 20 degrees accompanied by a continuous beeping with no throttle response, no prop rotation. The motor is labelled ‘Emax power the world’ and BL2810/12. It states prop 10-11” and 11.1v. I’m using a 2200 mah 3S battery. Is this a duff motor or am I missing something?

I’ve just bought an AR620 rx, it’s more up to date than my knowledge. I’m used to labels on rxs telling me which port to plug eg the rudder servo cable into. This one has a BAT label on the left most port, the others only labelled 1 to 6. The brief instructions don’t give any definition beyond stating that there are 6 servo ports. I suspect I’m missing some piece of knowledge you all know already…..how do I determine which servo lead to plug into which port please?

Excellent response gentlemen, thanks very much.

Thank you gentlemen, have a great 2025. 😎

Does anybody have some plans from which I can make myself a flight box? Thanks.

Hi Nick, a big thank you, saved me having to splash out on a new tx. Steve. 😀

Someone, sorry the post has disappeared to identify the poster, suggested ensuring the tx and rx were at least 2 metres apart during the binding process. Hey presto! I now have a functional DX6i, that method solved the binding problem. Its great to be able to tap into the experience available through this forum, thank you all for your input.

Things that don’t mix well with model aircraft

Might that have been in Cheshire about 10 years ago Frank? If so, sorry, guilty. I’m having another go learning now I’ve been retired 7 years, my instructor is however another ex EZY driver…… -
Shaun……I could well have been at that concert too, I went to many Hawkwind gigs in and around Cambridge/Saffron Walden in 1970-72. I have a Hawkwind CD in my stack in the workshop, still one of the best I’ve got, listened too often whilst balsa bashing. Pink Fairys too!

I’m another who’s had tinnitus for many years, in my case since the late 1980s. When diagnosed then my doctor told me that it was due to exposure to lots of loud noise, which for me had been sitting most of my time at work right next to turboprop propellers, particularly Jetstream 31s and Gulfstream 1s. However just a few years ago New Scientist magazine published the results of a study that strongly suggested that the noise is created inside the head in some form of mismatch between the ear and the brain. That it’s not actually a noise at all, only internal to that individual. Ever since then I’ve been able to tell myself when it starts that it’s not real and it stops! At least until the next occurrence. I get it rarely these days, usually when I’m doing not very much and my brain is idle.

….”flashing led in the rx” of course. Dang that autocorrect…..

I’ve recently bought an old DX6i from an estate sale, along with a pair of receivers. I installed one of the rxs, an AR6210-X, which has a satellite aerial box too, in a trainer. When I tried to bind the DX6i and the AR6210 I got the correct flashing led in the tx, but they never completed the bind process, the flashing carrying on until I gave up waiting, some minutes with the trainer switch held. A friend’s NX10 successfully completed a bind with the AR6210 however. Time to ditch the DX6i? Or is there a fix perhaps?

I’ve just bought second hand a fairly old looking Goldberg Piper Cub kit, 76 1/2” wingspan. All looks generally good in the box, nothing apparently missing, however a few of the ply sheets have developed a small warp across the short widths. They’re now slightly concave viewed from the printed sides. My thoughts are to dampen the sheets then put them on a flat surface with a couple of large old heavy books on top for a week or so to try and get them flat again. Would that work? Any better ideas anyone please?
