    ASP etc gone

Posted by David Davis on 24/06/2019 15:49:44: Shame. Anybody got a 52 sized four-stroke they want to sell? **LINK**
  2. Hmm that's 47 miles from BMFA HQ at buckminster............ Seems like something that ought to be possible there. Edited By will -0 on 25/06/2019 15:42:54
  3. Roughly where in the country are you? You may find there's someone on here who could recommend a local friendly spot!

Hi Jon, it's always possible. I haven't seen an enya twin for sale for years. The problem is, of course that sometimes the manufacturers stop making v twins ...... The other thing don't see any more is the Saito 30 open rocker. There used to be quite a regular supply but no more.

In fact, looking back at fleabay engines I've acquired over the years, I think prices have gone up not down which would rather contradict their apparent decline in popularity.   Edited By will -0 on 25/06/2019 11:24:15

**LINK** if you can't be rsd with the bidding thing   IIRC I bought my first 52 surpass for £50 on fleabay although that was probably 15 years ago now. The same engine was pulling my SE5a around last weekend.   Edited By will -0 on 25/06/2019 11:06:34

Well it seems there's nothing for it I will have to reconcile to having to find an alternate power source. With this in mind I've spent the evening trial fitting a Saito to this spitfire I'm not sure where I'm going to put the boiler just yet. As to how many  Edited By will -0 on 24/06/2019 20:52:44

The strange thing is that people have been saying that for a the last 10 -20 years and yet still at my club I'm a very long way from being unusual in running glow engines. Even some of what I thought were die hard electrickers are showing up with the occasional glow model now. Variety and all that eh?

Sure but you won't like the price, they're ever so rare these days.   I have been accumulating a stash, so should be OK for the forseeable future.   What worries me more is the ongoing supply of fuel. THere are only a few players in that market and it wouldn't take much to make it extremely hard or expensive to come by. Edited By will -0 on 24/06/2019 15:56:17
  12. Yeah red Slec tank rings a bell. Not sure other brands will fit. U/C - have small wheels but have had to repair the undercrackers as the torque end split and broke free from the beam (built up wing). Good luck with the foam wing, hope it's not too heavy!
  13. On the servo thing: Torque rods don't spoil the line of the wing. The area for installation is not overly generous. I fitted mine out as per the plan with full size servos. I had to use a 2/3aa flat pack alongside the rear servo as there was not room for anything else and I was trying to get it as far back as possible. Mini servos should give you more space to play with, but check it carefully! Fuel tank: I found a 4 oz slec tank fitted just right. (I think it was the 4 - I'm not getting it out to check as it's a PITA to fit as there is, again no room to spare) This does not give hugely long run times (well not by my standards anyway) I think I have my timer set at 6 minutes - would probably go a tad longer but I also don't like to run out of fuel with this type of model.
  14. Hi I have an ASP32 powered one which is fine. It's certainly not overpowered but not underpowered either. I think the 35 AX would be an excellent choice. FWIW I ended up adding tail ballast to mine
  15. Hello, please be careful to ensure you don't create airborne, and breathe the carbon dust.
  16. Posted by Doc Marten on 22/06/2019 15:46:43:   1) If cyclists were known to be making a contribution to the highways in recognition of their use of them wouldn't that then shut down the jibes from motorists questioning their right to use them? 2) Wouldn't that contribution speed up the introduction of the infrastructure necessary to make cycle use more attractive and inclusive and benefit the environment and population? 3) isn't is just fairer? 4) shouldn't anybody using the highway be subject to the same basic method of identification should they need to be traced in the relevant event? Those are the type of questions presented which would improve on the current situation. 1) they are already. I hope after 5 pages you are not still labouring under the illusion that VED pays for the roads are you? 2) Probably not. cycling infrastructure in the UK is hit and miss at best. Much of it is poorly conceived, some of it is there as traffic calming, quite a bit of it is downright dangerous. Not sure you'd get much of a vote for extra taxes to pay for it. We are hamstrung in this country with relatively narrow roads meaning that in precisely the areas where "something" would be helpful, it is hard to implement anything. 3) No, not really. One could argue that "cycling infrastructure" is only necessary due to the dangers caused by motorists and that therefore it would be reasonable to pay for it out of fuel duty/VED. Taxation is not often about being fair in any case. 4)Again, why? How are you going to fix numberplates to pedestrians and horseists? 5) it's a lovely day, i'm going flying, i suggest you put down your copy of the daily mail and do the same    Edited By will -0 on 22/06/2019 16:29:12
  17. Doc, the question you've attributed to me bears no resemblance to the one I asked. I have no idea if the fee entirely is used to cover the insurance, I imagine cycling UK have other outgoings to pay for, but as a charitable organisation I doubt they are creaming huge profits from the membership fees in order to pay for whatever fantasy you have.

Which one? The first answer was, "No". Precisely
  19. Posted by Doc Marten on 21/06/2019 22:54:10: Posted by will -0 on 21/06/2019 22:42:37: ? How would you use the money that's being used for the insurance premium for cycle paths too. Are you going to photocopy it or something? I think you have a naive view of the purpose of most "cycle" infrastructure. In many cases it is much more dangerous to use the cycle infrastructure than the main highway. Is the entire membership fee used for the insurance cover? If that's true then surely a contribution from those needing that safe cycle infrastructure would be a massive and welcome boost? Where do you imagine this is paid from at the moment?
