  1. Chris, I have 10oz of lead in front of the firewall on mine, and thats with an OS81 four stroke up front. I think some of the people in the factory think the tail surfaces need to be made from Oak. r.
  2. Hi John, I passed up the opportunity of one of these last night at a club swapmeet, today I've been wondering if I should have bought it Do let us know how you get on, nice aircraft. r.
  3. That does help a lot Kevin, thanks for taking the time to reply. The Graupner has a mV setting for charge, and a NiMH balance setting where you can set the discharge cut off but this can only be in the range 1.20 - 1.30V per cell, that might explain why it cuts off so quickly when I run a discharge. Those figures are some way off the 0.2 - 0.5 V per cell you used. I'm wondering what use a discharge option which cuts off at 1.2 V is! Maybe its time I invest in a new charger with proper cycling ability, or maybe its time to replace my RX packs with LiFe packs r.
  4. Ditto, brilliant service, my TX is already happy in its new home. And the kids loved the meters of air pocket packing. In unrelated news, I now have a headache.
  5. Evening, I've tried using the discharge cycle on my Graupner charger a few times now and it only ever reports a couple of hundred mAh taken out of the pack. I think there is something I don't understand going on here! For example, I tested a 3000mAh buggy pack from my sons RC Car, he had been using it for a good 15 mins and when charged a claimed 2000 mAh (ish) went back in. But when I discharge it straight after a full charge again it claimed only a few hundred mAh in the pack. Has anybody seen this sort of behaviour before? Also am I right in thinking discharging a pack and measuring the mA given up is a good indication of the capacity? I'm wondering if the charger has some very cautious discharge cut off set - is this likely?
  6. It sounds like Sunday was the busier day, although I had a lot of fun on Saturday. Love the Gyroneezer Richard! I noticed the free flight boys were along the far edge if the field whereas I've previously seen them nearer the trees, is that on account of the wind direction. My four year old had a great time, the flying superman especially caught his eye. He has already asked if I can build him one when I finish the current project
  7. Tony, one trick I use is to have site specific email addresses, a lot of email companies these days let you create aliases on the fly, so you don't have to actually pre-warn your email provider of a new alias. This way I know if I receive email to a specific address I know which site had leaked the data. Gmail have a page explaining how they do it here, I think others do it in a similar way. So you could, for example use [email protected] (assuming your main address is [email protected]) to sign up for your account for this site and so on. At least you know who lost your data if spam turns up addresses to such an address r.
  8. Interesting, thanks for sharing Tony. May I ask if you use the same username and full name on any other sites? That is a common tactic, if you break into some site, grab the user list the use it to make your phishing emails genuine. If you don't use the username elsewhere then I suspect eBay have leaked some data and are just not being truthful, there are various anecdotal accounts of large sites having leaks but not coming clean. the from address of the email is the easiest thing in the world to fake, one reason you should never trust who an email says it is from. r.
  9. Ha, yes! This chap clearly missed that meeting
  10. Very enjoyable to watch, thanks for posting BEB. I thought the rolls in particular were so very precise. Colin, thanks for the comment about the tail, it led me to do some research to see exactly how the D and H varients differed, very interesting! On my travels I found this useful set of side views which shows the differences.
  11. Nice job Jeff, that's come up like new. How did you clean the gunk off the outside of the head and case?
  12. I got some time off for good behaviour today (decorated a bedroom as payment!), which I used to make a fuselage rack. Hopefully hanger rash will be less likely now, although I still need to rig up something for the wings. The inspiration came from this article in Model Airplane News, the US mag. p.s. the observant reader will notice the lack of UC on the Pulse, thats another story
  13. Yep, I'd also find this useful. Until it arrives bookmarking useful threads in your browser works ok, I find I need to change the name of the saved bookmark to something more useful to me though.
  14. Is anybody thinking of popping over to Old Warden this weekend? Weather looks pleasant for the Saturday at least, I'm hoping to get a few hours there in the morning. For those who haven't been, the ticket price includes entry to the collection which is always worth a visit. r.
  15. I've used one of these for a few years, I built a little box in one end which holds my lead acid battery, pump and connections for my starter. Very useful and tough as old boots. r.
  16. WF, there must be something in the air at the moment, I've just finished my own shed, also my first to be dedicated to my hobby! Yours looks lovely, mine is empty bar a couple of shelves at the moment, hope it will look stocked like yours soon though r.   Edited By Robin Kearney on 02/05/2014 21:46:20
  17. Since moving house last year, I'm just a mile or so away from RAF Northolt so it's mostly 32 sq. or the Queens flight as some know it, and private jets. If I had been here during the Olympics I'd have had the pleasure of the Typhoons that were temporarily based there. Previously I was near Tottenham and that meant I had the pleasure of the police helicopter. Nightly... It was as regular as the shipping forecast!
  18. Mines on a 3s setup, using 3300's. Chosen partly because I'm no speed freak but also again to help keeps costs down, they are the same packs I use in my Tucano. It balances just fine without lead which is helpful. r.
  19. I've never bought an SC engine, but do they normally not come with the carb attached? The pic shows the carb isn't on the engine and cannot be seen in the background.
  20. David, I went from a Wot 4 to a Pulse 25, very nice model. Only thing I'd say is it gets pushed around a bit in a breeze, and I found the UC plate on mine wasn't glued in well, but overall I like it, comes with me every trip to the field. I used Turnigy electronics all round on mine, to keep the cost down.
  21. Hi, a call to the council parks department has previously furnished me a list of by-laws regarding flying in council parks. Might be worth trying that to see if any have specific regulations. r.
  22. Hi Mouse, re the fly bar vs flybarless debate, it might be worth considering fly bar helis, they are a hell of a lot cheaper because they are falling out of favour. I got a bargain on my blade 450 and recently on a 500 3D, Midland helis have the BnF Blade 500 3D for 270 at the moment vs 570 for the X, flybarless model. For me it came down to the simple question, am I going to see 300 odd quid of benefit by going flybarless, no was the answer I came too
  23. That's true Braddock, it is the ARTF built up AW, not the foamie. I've a OS FS81a up front which provides plenty of go. And I would second what Tom said, last time I landed my pulse the UC plate came right out, none of the wood split, it broke right along the glue line. Think I'll be using something stronger than the Pritt Stick eflite used when I put it back together! The comment about the tail being made of oak is also true, although I know a guy with one which needed no lead up front so presumably the skill of choosing the wood is lacking in the factory. r.
