I received a letter from Royal Mail this morning informing me that if I pay them £13.50 plus £32.65 Import Vat then they will deliver the system next Tuesday. I remain puzzled as to why goods from HK in China do not carry these penalty charges.

Your 12 day time seems about par for delivery from Hong Kong - many people have found that they have inadvertently ordered from there when they assumed they had selected the UK warehouse - did yours definitely come from Felixstowe? No idea, I ordered it on the UK site of that I am certain. As far as I'm concerned it's a M.M. operation of which I shall steer clear for all but the most non-urgent requirements that cannot be obtained anywhere else.

I managed to place a small order on the UK site as a trial for materials in stock and delivery took 12 days after I received an email from them saying that my order had been dispatched.

Actually it is the machine guns that I really need.

One of the reassuring points to come out of this discussion is that no one has come forward to say that they have experienced uncontrolled restarts from shutdown speed controllers or receivers in failsafe, which gives me a little more confidence in them. So whilst it seems prudent to ask for an arming plug to be fitted to break the battery supply where possible we can also rely on the other means of preventing an unintentional restart as outlined in my opening post with a high degree of certainty that they will work as intended. Thank you all for your responses.

I must be the odd one out as I am one of those changing over from i.c. nitro 4 strokes between 8 and 30cc to electric and I certainly intend going much larger.

Andy, no silencer just the stub, it's a quiet motor. I owned one in about 1987 and I cannot remember it being noise tested but the club I flew at enforced the 82db limit so I imagine it must have passed that. If you do find that you need a silencer it won't have to be much of one.

I want one.

Hi Andy and welcome to this forum. It looks like the model that you have selected will be a good one on which to hone your building skills, it's not unlike the Barnstormer that several of us are building for next years meeting. You may be able to glean information for the electrification from our discussions on those.

Whilst wing loading has traditionally been calculated with an empty fuel tank I wonder if this method is appropriate for battery powered models since the weight of these does not change as the battery is discharged.

Overheating could indeed have this effect. I had a similar problem years ago when using castor oil fuel, the burned castor plated the liner and slowing down heat dissipation, at least that's what I was told by my engine man. A new liner and a fuel change saw off the problem.
