I've looked at one for my 70cc twin cub and it certainly would look great. But its another thing to go wrong in my book sadly. Give it a few years and everything will be lightweight autostart with the way technology is going. But for now it is to heavy and vulgar and certainly not worth the extra ££ Scott
  2. Ian sorry for not jumping in here earlier, i fly with my trusted aurora and only use Hitec gear. Though i did trial with that receiver ect and had my elevator (only) shudder and lock up whilst within 1 metre but free up during normal flight. When trialing new aftermarket equipment i always use a cheap foamie glider and this stuff failed. I never gained confidence in it sadly. Though my Optic 6 and Hitec gear works perfect. Maybe a bad batch!? but i'd rather buy genuine for a few £ more than risk an aircraft. Scott
  3. Posted by Paul Marsh on 22/02/2015 22:23:59: I like Cubs, also have a 1/3 scale one which I bought and upgraded the servos and horns as they weren't suitable for what the model is. Paul you don't happen to have a youtube video of it running? Just spotted one and thought the name ring's bell's
  4. Forgot to add mine is the Balsa USA 1/3 kit, yes i will add photos along the way, i have a few cubs but have never flown anything so smooth and docile. 70cc twin onboard too and 24x8 prop. Very scale flying characteristics. I'd like to keep it that way too by the complete refurb. I'm glad i decided to now before summer since some of the cracks here and there filled me with fear. I do plan however not to fit cowling. I have one here but feel it takes away the impact of the pretty twin up front and hampers my ease of tuning Scott
  5. Perfect i cant wait! It probably would have been fine if i didn't misplace a screwdriver through a window! Pilot error Scott
  6. Thanks John, is there an easy way of cutting it? I have an old piece of the original here and with my dremel (safety specs too!) it just splinters and cracks Scott
  7. Also i need to source perspex for the side windows that have become very brittle. Any ideas on where i can get thin perspex and how you can cut it easily?
  8. I feel it's time for my 1/3 Cub to undergo some changes. I shall be bringing her to Greenacres so don't want to go to deep with surgery. First of all i'm not sure what the covering is though it looks like it has been painted on top of before. This cub was originally built in America then shipped here. Since 1990 it's never been touched up and until recently had very old electrics onboard. I need advice on the lightest model paint and possible techniques to use. I've been replacing the pull pull system today and servos, and now i feel the cockpit needs a lot more. I plan on a pilot and onboard cockpit camera. I'm attempting to cut a new windshield out of a dog anti bite cone. I've found fatigue cracks in epoxy and wing ribs that will be carefully extracted and used as a template for new ones. She currently flies nicely but i'm not going to continue flying a particularly large and dangerous aircraft with major defects. I'm continuing tonight to cut small slits on the wings to inspect each rib. But any advice on painting and cockpit detailing would be very much appreciated. I will get better photos tomorrow, Regards Scott
  9. I'd also give a +1 for Lancaster model Shop. Yes its a 2 hour over 150mile round trip though I get first class service and they have an outstanding service to everyone who walks in. I take a trip from Edinburgh every two months. It costs ?40 on petrol but I don't mind that when I see what I'm buying and can negotiate rather than click to buy something you haven't seen. The sad thing is once all the craze of multicopters is hampered by CAA regulations and fpv is literally banned these what used to be loyal model shops will struggle to come back after abandoning there long term customers/friends.
  10. I'd love to name and shame my lhs but I still have fond memories of sitting amongst kits and aircraft hanging around drinking tea and chatting away. They would go out there way to source parts of course if they didn't already have it. Now sadly its like Toyz r Us. They've even got a toy specialist who will try offer you a Hubsan x4 fpv when you went looking for a Precision Aerobatics aircraft they had listed on there website. I to like to open boxes and check before buying but those days are long gone. So has the nice cuppa and chat....
  11. If you could post a photo up I may be interested in it Thanks Scott
  12. I have my lipos in safety bags and within a small cheap safe in the garage for security more than anything else since I've only had one lipo go on me and that was in the air. Never had any storage issues. I just like to keep them away from moisture and coldness.
  13. Cymaz she's looking lovely, what size of prop is that? Where did you get it. Where the pretty tips like that or is that you're artistic touch? Looking forward to seeing her flying, always fancied a big moth!
  14. This post scares me as i was literally about to post similar as i too am travelling to Corfu in the summer and would like to take something. I'm thinking along the lines of a zaggi flying wing with a hinge in the middle so it can be halfed easily
  15. Yeah it fits rather neat. I still can use the front passenger seat though i like to use that for my transmitter and the footwell for my flightbox . Its a simple 5 minute job in and out. Ah Bisto!
  16. Cheers Andy thats really helpful, i'm writing all this down, i'll rehearse it like a script for next time ! Insurance is something i try persuade everyone to get before buying an aircraft
  17. So if we where to have an accident then i'm guessing the student would be covered through me, eg i would take the full blame? It hit me when i was asked as a learner driver must have his own additional insurance to drive a car so i was thinking that i was missing something out for a student , Thanks Martin
  18. Ok, i've been thinking what happens if for some reason i dont get to the sticks quick enough, slip/fall, get distracted,my transmitter or something onboard fails and my student on buddy box crashes my aircraft or his into a car, person where do i stand? Is the student covered on my insurance or does he need his own? Am i covered for the students actions? I was put on the spot with this question today and i couldn't answer it. I do have insurance to fly all my aircraft , helis but what happens to that person who just wants a taster of flying or is being taught how to fly and something goes wrong, where do we both stand and how do we both go about being covered for the future Kind Regards Scott
  19. Hi Simon i use a selva headtorch that I stripped down. It works off one AA battery and you could see that from a fair distance. I made a little cross out of mirror that projected the light at various Angles. I do believe its the Radian you're flying? If so a fantastic aircraft and very floaty. It will take a surprisingly large amount of weight without much disruption of flight times ect. There are strobes you can buy though I never found any bright enough. I wasn't using it for you're purpose though. I was using it at a slope site that was always being hampered by low cloud! Good luck . Sounds a fun site Scott
