  1. I think these guys are friendly to us. See link below to the "All-Party Parliamentary Group on General Aviation" They already challenged the CAA over airspace grabbing and managed to get a change in the law to stop CAA from not consulting properly in future. They list the BMFA as a sponsor too, so they ought to be listening to us. I have already written an e-mail to them this morning (no reply yet) but it may be a good idea for as many people as possible to request their help. There is nothing to lose asking them to look into this problem, they may not be all that aware of it! See "contact us" in link **LINK**
  2. Thanks Ron, Do you or anyone else know what is a reasonable minimum figure for the RSSI? and at what distance? (after engaging the "Range" function) Cheers, Martyn
  3. Hi, I'm messing about with some on-board electronics of my own design at the moment, and need to check that nothing is affecting operation of my radio before I dare go fly with it. (I'm using a PIC processor) I've just had a search of this Forum and can't find anything definitive relating to what signal strength to expect, and the minimum ranges. There has been chat on this subject in the past, but nothing concrete has been defined. What people have talked about seems very wide, eg range anywhere from 20m to 100m and RSSI 45 to 60. I also can't find anything about how to place the model - eg up on a wooden table, or higher, or on the ground. What is the general consensus these days? now having had a reasonably lengthy in-service life of the Taranis product, there must be lots of experience. Regards, Martyn Coles
  4. Hi Martyn K et All, Dalotel plans can be found here https://outerzone.co.uk/plan_details.asp?ID=7552 Agreed, quite an attractive scale model. Cheers, Martyn C
  5. Yes UK from T9 The option is Standard or Standard and PCB. Not the other way around.
  6. I have a dilemma facing purchase of more X6R/X8R receivers. Now we get the choice to purchase with PCB and Standard Antenna Set, or just with Standard Antenna Set which is cheaper. I already have several of these but as they came with PCB antennas attached, I left them there and have never tried the standard type. Has any body a view on the benefit or otherwise of PCB over standard. It seems silly to spend money unnecessarily if the standard antennas are good enough. I could always take the view that "more complexity equals better performance", but then there is "more complexity equals lower reliability". Cheers, Martyn Coles

    Taranis X9E

Hi All, I'm a different Martyn (Coles) , and if I can comment :- I upgraded my Taranis at the same time as Martyn K to the early EU firmware (Feb I think). In fact at his house with his kit. (he was aware of me being there! ) I have been using X4R, X6R, X8R and V8R7 receivers since with no noticable difference in range. One of my models has been a slope soarer and was flown at a long distance from the slope. I had RF signal strength indicated by telemetry, although I can't remember the actual figures, I remember thinking it was more than plenty. I have also flown 60 size power models and not had any concerns about RF strength. I'm curious enough to have set up to read out loud the RF and battery levels on application of a switch, so do it now and again out of routine. So for me with my version of firmware all appears to be fine. Does this add weight to suspect later versions? Martyn Coles
  8. Hi Chris, This Taranis just keeps getting better and better! I'd forgotten that the battery connector used a LiPo balance type plug. I don't think I've had the battery cover off since I bought it last October. I've just tried a 1500 2s Lipo that I have and it fits in the battery compartment perfectly. No need to bother about cigar-style charging leads any more. I just hope I don't forget there's a LiPo in there and charge as normal on the mains charger - I guess the built-in charger won't auto detect the battery type and change its charge method from NiCd/NiMh? Thanks for your reply. Cheers, Martyn
  9. Hi Geoff, Thanks for your reply. Also thanks for your opinion. I don't know why I didn't think of that. It's just not worth making up any leads just for holidays. I can take the battery out easily enough and use my trusted Ripmax 12v charger for both flight-pack and the Taranis Tx. Cheers, Martyn
  10. Hi, the very first posting in this thread warns about connecting to a constant current charger which I understand. It is getting near to holiday time (for me) and I think I need to put together a charging kit to use from my car battery. Am I correct in thinking that if a lead is made up with DC Jack one end and Cigar plug the other, no dropper resistors or anything (bar a fuse) then this is all that is needed to charge the Taranis transmitter? Kind regards, Martyn Coles
  11. Thanks Chris and Bob. That bit of info will be very useful. I've just tried it and it works for me. It is certainly a lot easier than copying manually by eye, which could also lead to mistakes. I usually have copied my most complex model and then use it as a template for the next, but this is my first attempt at a heli, and I started with a blank setting due to using the heli setup guide on OpenTx University. There was quite a lot of things to enter, and I didn't want to begin by editing my normal template, which I felt could introduce an error. Now that the heli works, I now want to add my telemetry and throttle safety stuff amongst other things. Thanks again. Martyn
  12. Hi Bob, Thanks for your reply. It may have worked in earlier issues (before my time) but there seems to be no way that I can find of doing it with version 2.0.15 I've just tried it again a few minutes ago. I thought it may have ALSO been possible in the "compare models" feature, but alas. Unless I'm looking in the wrong place? Kind regards, Martyn Coles
  13. Hi, I've just finished doing a heli setup for the Taranis+, but it's just the basic CCPM heli. What I want to do is add some features that I have in another model setup, like Throttle safety, and some other things. Does anyone know if there is a way in Companion where I can copy a few lines of Special Functions all at once, and copy them as a block into another model's (already created) setup? I'm using the latest release of firmware and companion.
  14. Hi Chris, Yes I did find those manuals thanks, but they are quite a lot behind the present version of firmware (now 2.0.13) and some of the pages don't seem to exist. e.g. "Templates 13/13" sounded nice and useful, but nothing like that seems to be present anymore. It seems the manuals you describe are for series 1.x.xx of the firmware, and since series 2.x.xx has been around for almost a year now, it seems a pity that the manual hasn't caught up. None the less, I am very pleased I chose the Taranis as it appears to be so flexible in its programming. Although without help on a forum such as this, some of the problems I have encountered would have been very frustrating. Kind regards, Martyn C
  15. I have bleeps !! Changing the Sound Mode to "NoKey" or "All" has enabled all my sounds. It wasn't clear to me what the setting of "Alarm" to Sound Mode meant, so I just left it as it was thinking it probably meant that Alarms were added to the Sound Mode. It seems it really means it is Alarms ONLY. Hmmm pity there's no manual for this yet. Thanks Chris
