  1. It seems to me that this topic is being aired because something is going to become reallity and to give it an airing on a site like this is only brainwashing and preparing ourselves for the outcome. Now dont say i am paranoid but look at george orwell book big brother and a lot of the stuff in that became reality even before the predicted time. For all we know the person who posted this originally was prompted by his 'boses' to start the ball rolling.
  2. Hi Myron yes your correct but from all the info given i have assumed(guessed) that on average a 5 to7 amp would be ok. nobody has blown a power source from using one so I think I will go down that path as the size of battery is a lot more managable than the one I was carting about, any way the amps would be variable because someone might be starting a 220cc four cyl where the amps are higher or a enya 60 which would pull less amps, whichever is the case I am pleased at the response from all you good guys out there Daddycool
  3. Thanks guys That has given me a lot of food for thought and usefull information. just proves what a lot of wisdom is floating about and also a lot of helpfull and decent people. what a bunch of nice guys aeromodellers are thanks everyoneDaddycool
  4. hi everybody, could someone out there help with some info about the amperage drawn whenstarting an engine. I put a big 12volr lorry battery in the car when flying and am getting a bit fed upcarting it about . I have been looking on the ubiquitous ebay for a smaller battery but dont know what amperage to buy as i dont know what amps are drawn when i engage my electric starter to the engine to start. thanks in advance daddycool
  5. Hi found this interesting reading, but when a lipo comes to its end it has a steeep voltage drop and the low voltage warning probably would not function. This wouldpossibly cause quite a nasty accident even if failsafe is operational. and would you be able to realise that you have no power to your tranny. just trying to work through this scenario and that seems probable. does anyone else agree or not??????
  6. Hi all At my club its compulsery to use failsafe, dueto the fact that we are almost yards from an airfield, it at least stops an aerplane from going for miles if there is a signal failure and however the co ntrols are set I suppose the idea is to get the model down safely and as quick as is possible. as far as legallity is concerned be it true or not it is in the interests of modellors and keeping our sites to use it.
  7. Thanks John I will give it a go after this . I am a newbie here and a returning modeller after thirty odd years. my how things change Am still finding my way around and obviously in need of help!! : regards Laurence
  8. Hi thanks kc that was some usefull info I will try that tomorrow, probably to late now??? thanks again hi john cole could you sugest (without being rude) where I might place the request.

  11. Hi Jim Thanks for the info. have tried it and working ok its just a bit of operator training now required I also noticed that when tightening the bridge onto the blade it has a tendency to move, so depending how much you tighten it some adjustment is available. probably not the right way but i got some balsa of at last. ,
  12. Hi all recntly returned to modelling after about forty years, so done the right thing and joined a club. Getting really into it and started buying bits and pieces also starting to build a model and doing a bit of balsa bashing. In my quest for buying 'stuff' as my wife calls it but i call it essentiall equioment I Got a david plane as i had one forty years ago but for the life of cant now find it. my problem is can anyone tell me how to set one up as when i put the blade in all it does is digs in or rips the wood cant find anything on the internet buut i dont believe they are that elusive so so eone please hear my plea before i rip up to much balsa
  13. I have returned to modelling after about forty years away. In those halcyon days i had a horizon four chanel proportional system (Really cuttimg edge then). When i returned i thought it prudent to get some 2.4 equipmentand duly bought some futaba. I am very plesased with it and one can fly when one wants to without bothering adout who else is flying, observing safety procedures of course.
  14. daddycool says I have probably used most plugs and socketsat some time and in general the larger models i use deans/xt60 and for ickle park flyers i use 3mm /2mm
  15. thumbs but lay either side of sticks and move thumbs to side or up and down on the 'side' of the sticks. found neckstrap to be quite restrictive. .
  16. I must admit it does annoy me a little that it is referred to as a TOY . I do not think that all the models i see on my flying field are toys when you consider the skills and time and effort that is put in to them. not to mention the quality of something like a scale model. When you consider the people that build them and fly them succesfully it must be remembered that they are not in a profession that even remotely is comparable to aeroplane modelling yet they have got the skill that a professional would have. I think that encompasses what hobbies are when people take the trouble to learn and practice tha skills that are required regardles of any hobbie and to call them toys is an insult
