  1. Hi all I've got my plan got my timber, got a board and all my tools and I'm ready top start building (late I know) Superglue or wood glue ? I'm thinking stick with super and then coat with PVA...is this overkill ? I've been looking at images...do I pin through the wood or around the wood ? As always, advice welcome.
  2. Thanks for all the feedback. I should clarify, the foam is a poster board thing, very dense not like a polystyrene, but I have a couple of plasterboard offcuts anyway so I may use that. Thanks for the aerilon advice, I may build as is or flatten the dihedral. I like the idea of having a full model but I will have a think. Thanks again and keep all the pics and tips coming, I've got the discussion bookmarked.
  3. So my plans are ordered and I'm just getting my balsa order ready, I'm pretty confident in my woodworking and modelling skills. I have a couple of questions. Build Board - I've got a thick piece of Ply and some foam to go over it as a base... I know opinions vary but does that sound reasonable ? Its my first build....which bit do I do first ? I haven't ordered my hardware (i'm going electric) yet, should I wait and order before I start building or should I get going ? I'm going to add aerilons do I HAVE to change the dihedral ? If I do is it a "complicated" task ? Thanks as always for responses. Darlo
  4. Newbee Phil Thanks for the advice, I'm looking to Join Bury myself but as you mentioned I'm not keen on invading peoples space, free time is precious I don't like stealing their time. I think I will start coming down to the field again.
  5. I like the Seagull. I'm tempted to go for that, buy the electonics and powerpant and join the club that I want to join. I figure the heavier plane will mean I don't get "wind-ed off" and can actually start to learn properley. I can then really take my time with a build and not worry about timescales for learning too much....I just need a way to hide all the expense from my wife.
  6. Found this, what do you guys think ? A box frame and available as kit. it says "advanced trainer" would I be able to pick it up ? I've only flown a couple of times because my foamie is too light. **LINK**
  7. Thanks Everyone I feel confident with woodworking its the level of complication of a massive 3d jigsaw puzzle. after seeing some of the images for the Tinker which I was going to do I realise I need to start with less complication. My brain says a high wing trainer, thanks for all the suggestions by the way. I do love some of the sportier models though so i'm going to have to reign myself in. I think I will have a mooch around, i'd like to order a kit with everything included. Keep the suggestions coming. Thanks all
  8. Hi All I wanted to take part in the mass build with the Tinker but I've realised that Its way beyond my skill level and the lack of proper wood pack has now put me off. I'm a beginner with a foamie so I want to build a model over the 1kg limit for my "A" (if I get there). I like the look of the Jazz but is that really suitable for a beginner flyer ? and will the weight once ive added a motor and battery put me at 1kg ? If not I think i may just find a pack for a trainer and build away from the mass build. Any help, advise gratefully recieved.
  9. Can anyone recommend any books for the techniques for the build. I'm okay with the theory but as it's my first build I'd like to have a bit more reference material to fall back on. Thanks all
  10. As a newbie flyer on my first build, who's foamie is electric I don't really want to start with IC until I'm sure I want to "stick around" as it were. Is it likely I can build the Tinker to electric ?
  11. After seeing the video I definitely doing the Tinker with ailerons. my foamie trainer is leccy but I think I may opt for IC for this build. but again advice welcome. Hopefully we may see some wood packs and power suggestions come in. I'm getting a bit giddy now.
  12. I admit I too am a little disappointed that we aren't all building the same model but happy to go with the majority. As I said previously my no1 choice is the tinker but I may wait to see numbers before deciding. Should be a fun winter.
  13. So we're all picking one from the top 5 then. I'm a new build/flyer, and I want to build the Tinker (major) but I have no idea about powerplants etc so will anyone be building the Tinker ? I have foamie at the moment and its too light to fly 95% of the time. so i'm going to build something a bit heavier and bigger. Are we going to have a discussion thread for each model type ? I was looking forward to the one model for everyone so I can could get help tips or straightforward shopping lists, I hope this will still be the case.
