Like the idea, Ben. RPi is a very flexible device indeed. There are lots of people out there doing similar things with RPi's, Arduino's, Snapdragon's and such. They all seem to focus around unmanned flight or telemetry feedback or FPV flying. Now, if you tie these together into something task focused... I'll give you an example, a semi automated flight that takes off and lands under normal control but when in flight, follows a preset track or search pattern controlled by GPS and autopilot. Flight data is recorded along with video or still capture for something like search an rescue or aerial surveillance or even transmitted back live. Just my take on your idea, certainly sound interesting.

Well after a lt of searching and reading, I think I might join the Tucano mass build. I doubt it will be ready for the mass fly in but it looks like a reasonably priced kit and not too complex for a beginner modeler. Once I cut me teeth here, I'll move up to something bigger.

Got a few models to look at in preparation for payday next weekend. Hopefully find a club, my two local clubs are apparently full(is that possible?). So, looking for somewhere to fly or resort to a parkzone and teach myself.

Any pilots of full size aircraft here? I fly Microlights in Cambridgeshire.

Got a nice selection of ageing warbirds too. Wouldn't mind going flying there.

A big, high wing monoplane with spats, a radial and white(ish)... Could be a Stinson Relant. Did it look like this?

Managed a few decent flights with my nanoCPX, nothing to shout home about but able to get out in the fresh air and turn some tricks. Sadly, no pictures, not really anything t see with a nano.

Thanks for the kind welcome. Happy to check in to the Mad House! my local model shop are keen for me to buy a Boomerang, but I guess that's because they have a stockroom full of them. Lots of good comments on the Wot, seems a good learning machine. I used to fly rubber band and gliders free flight when I was younger so this is my first journey into powered and controlled flight. Radios have come a long way in the last 20 years so still trying figure out the best to go for. As for prestige flying, I'm looking at building a vintage twin or big engine. Quite like the look of the Phillip Noel Mosquito or maybe something like a staggerwing.

Useful thread, thanks. Just wanted to know what you use for assembly boards and when pinning pieces together. In the past, I used pieces of plasterboard for assembly. Cheap and easy to pin to and when torn to pieces, just cut a bit more. What do you recommend?

For reasons not yet fully understood, I woke one recent morning with the urge to build and fly a model airplane. I can't explain it, I was just overwhelmed. It all started when I saw a Dumas Corsair free flight model. I havent seen one of those in years, not to mention how many I built in my youth. My 3yr old son coaxed me into buying it so I did, knowing we would have such fun building it and eventually flying it. Now it's half finished and I want to build one of my own. So I'm thinking about various kits and plan models. I like vintage and classic aircraft so considering something along those lines while I learn to fly something like a wot.
