  1. Update.... I took the spray bar assembly from an unused ST45 and dropped it into the ST61 carb. That made all the difference and the engine is now responding as it should to the main needle. It would not run when the glow supply was disconnected though, so the plug plainly was not the right one to use. I put a new OS Four stroke plug in and that problem also solved. It still needs running in a little while longer and it needs fine tuning with both needles, but all good. Thanks for the help, and for the plug advice Peter, I would not have thought to put a four stroke one in! Typically the rain has arrived just in time to curtail any further activity!
  2. Thanks for all the replies, I will follow all this advice when I get some spare time! I bought the engine years ago and it has been on the shelf in its box ever since. The blocked inlet sounds plausible...
  3. I have a new STG61 ringed, that has been in it's box for several years waiting for a model. It's now in a Wot 4 and I'm trying to run it in, but I can't get it to richen up. Winding the main needle 6 or 7 turns out has no effect and I'm concerned I'm going to cause damage if I carry on trying. Plug is an OS No 8 and fuel is 5% mainly synthetic oil with a bit of castor. I know straight is recommended, but I don't have any right now and with a lack of model outlets where I am, there is none readily available. An air leak seems a likely cause, but I can't identify one, tank and fuel lines are new, o ring on the carb base is good, all bolts tight, and as I say, it's essentially a new engine. Any thoughts?

    Hornby at risk?

I dont think that its the Airfix element of Hornby that's failing. They seem to be expanding their range of kits and whilst they may be more expensive than they used to be, they are also a world apart from their kits of old. I suggest anyone who thinks they are overpriced go and buy one of their new tool kits and have a look. I bought a couple recently as they were being discounted in aldi, and i was surprised at the quality and detail. They really are good. I used to build them as a kid, back in the 60s and 70s, and i have always taken an interest in plastic kits, although my main interest is in flying models, but these new tool kits have sparked my interest again, and I'm now contemplating getting an airbrush, because the one thing I could never do was brush paint! If you think £8 is expensive, compare it to a packet of smokes, or a couple of pints...... and how long do they last? I hope they survive and thrive, they deserve to do so.
  6. Good memories, really enjoyed my time there in the early 80's. This photo was taken around that time, not sure of the exact date, probably 1981.
  7. A few from late last year.... ...and this is a scan of a pic taken years ago on film... Edited By Brendan on 26/04/2013 19:08:05 Edited By Brendan on 26/04/2013 19:12:06 Edited By Steve Hargreaves - Moderator on 12/06/2013 09:38:29
