  1. Hi Erfolg My last Cutlass had a blue foam fuz and followed the same route as yours in shaping. My blank was made up of two pieces spot glued together on the side view centerline, then split after shaping. Internally I made the cutouts with piano wire shaped and set in a wooden file handle then heated on the gas stove, followed by making the wing cutouts then the whole thing was glued back together with the wing in situ If you use a hot wire on blue foam do it outside, the fumes are deadly I finished mine with glass cloth and Wilkos poly, but it didn't make it very ding proof, so next time I'll try brown paper. I have a pic somewhere of the bare fuz but it probably wouldn't tell you much. Ron
  2. It would be easy to point the finger at Cuthberts' defensive error in the last five, but indiscipline was the big failing and lost us the game. Fed up of Wales being the bridesmaid in these close encounters. C'mon France ( Oh dear 24-6 ) Edited By ron evans on 17/10/2015 20:34:36
  3. Fine effort by Wales, tremendous 2nd half onslaught by SA finally gave them the win.....a hard game Good luck Scotland & Ireland.
  4. Simon I think I understand your explanation, the shape would be fixed in the wind tunnel and the results corrected to a full size value. With the F7U-1 I've mentioned the model was flying free and controlled in the wind tunnel, with observations made on how it handled near the stall with different C/G positions. I think the weight would have had an effect on the handling so I suppose they arrived at a figure for the model using the Reynolds equation. Suck it and see fan Ron Edited By ron evans on 12/10/2015 16:39:33 Edited By ron evans on 12/10/2015 16:47:16
  5. Fascinating stuff Colin and it's got me wondering if all the handling traits of a full size are replicated on a scale model. Highly tapered wings are one obvious example. I've been looking at some utube footage of a 10th scale F7u-1 flying free in the Langley low speed wind tunnel, from '47, I wonder what weight the model would have to be to make the results meaningful?
  6. Had to have a look at some Chipmunk pics Colin and that strip extends out to the u/c position. Might be worth a try on that DH88. Edited By ron evans on 11/10/2015 21:33:16
  7. Some years ago I read about a modeler who helped cure a tip stalling model by giving a portion of the wing section at the root a sharp entry. It would be simple to try a temporary fix, although if it did work the stall speed would probably be increased, but at least it would be straight ahead. Ron
  8. You must be more careful with that cyano Donald
  9. Got in from flying and caught the tail end of the Irish game, looks like they did a job on the French and earned themselves an easier route in the next round. Well done Ireland Ron
  10. Wales go down to Oz, good effort and better in the scrum but we failed to take our chances and excellent 13 man defense by Oz made them deserved winners. Tough old game for Scotland. SA up next for us. Ron
  11. Hi Mr Fledermaus Looking at the TNT it looks a light build, so I would think 200 / 250 watts would be ample, especially if you keep the weight under 2Ib... 28 dia ,1000 kv motor.... 9x5 folder...1300 3cell lipo.....30/40 A speedo would be my starting point. Donald...I will be watching the game with little hope of an easier path through the next round, especially after what Oz did to the English scrum ! Ron
  12. Good recovery. just not good enough, 10 send off put the top hat on the result. What of Lancaster's future now   Edited By ron evans on 03/10/2015 21:59:59
  13. Oz scrum looks dominant and England put ours to the sword...doesn't look good for us next week.   12 13 22 29 45 47   ( in shares if we win?) Edited By ron evans on 03/10/2015 21:24:14
  14. You do me an injustice Don, a real boast would have said R.I.P. England Ron
  15. Not seen any games today, weather great so bin flying .Back now in time for the crunch game......may the best team win cobber R.I.P Denis. Ron
  16. No complaints about refereeing John, but I was a bit surprised to see a try awarded and the player waiting to take the conversion, only for the TMO to get involved and the ref. reverse the decision. It would mean all tries should be reviewed whether the ref. wants it or not. Scrums are better, but still a mystery who is at fault when they go down Ron
  17. Well lads Warren Gatland has declared himself a neutral for the England game, just couldn't bring himself to root for Australia. Ron
  18. Well done Wales. Fiji gave them a hard game, playing with physicality and flair, and I think the boys suffered a bit from the short turn around since the England game. England v Oz next in the pool of death and all to play for. Ron
  19. England has an enviably strong squad, and I wonder if this leads Lancaster to overthink the team selection process. Tailoring your team to deal with perceived strengths / weaknesses of the opposition would seem logical but does little for continuity. Having said that I'll bet Gatland wouldn't mind that sort of problem. Wales norrmally have a core of players who you know will be in the team, that's been blown apart by injuries and with another bruising game coming up I hope the forwards come through unscathed. Ron
  20. Well done Wales, do we have any players left? Good game all round. Ron
  21. Colin,I've just Googled the Supermarine 317, It's 4 engined bomber with highly tapered wing, yes? A new one on me I must admit, and quite a challenging subject. So is it balsa or depron for the 317.
  22. Colin, I've fancied a PC myself, but like you I've a few projects on the go. I really should concentrate my efforts, mmm, I wonder if I can find that PC plan.
  23. Well done Colin, the sit in the air looks just right. What's next? Ron.
  24. Just another note Nick, April issue free plan Cutlass can be built from foam too.
