So what operational requirement is RAF Scampton meeting? The Vulcan's have long gone and now it is home to a mobile metreological unit, an air control centre and the Red Arrows. Does seem a bit excessive to keep a 10,000 foot runway, massive airbase for these activities.

I am not an apologist for the water companies and agree that the idea of citizen shareholders has long given way to foreign investment and pension fund ownership. They give a nice risk free 3-4% return for investors - just the thing I'd look for if I was managing a fund. And of course the avoidance of corporation tax and CEO pay is right to be called out. I am a contractor working for a water company and we are delivering a large scale digital and customer experience transformation. The writing is on the wall for the next five year AMP (Asset Management Period) that starts in Apr 2020. OFWAT is likely to call for five years of decreasing (allowing for inflation) residential bills and increases to supply, quality and customer satisfaction KPIs. Suddenly the equation changes. They will not be able to afford to just keep on building new tanks and storage and relying on shiny new assets. Business is often simple. They will face year on year declines in revenue for the next five years, whilst still having to deliver on quality and satisfaction. If you were the owners - what would be your strategy?

United Utilities serves a wet and mountainous region. So they have lots of water and do not need lots of water towers or pumping stations to move it around and maintain pressure. As a result, low leakage is not a business priority for them - normally. In my region - Anglian Water - it's the opposite. Low rainfall and flat. Leakage is a #1 priority. The flat land also means slow moving rivers with low levels of oxygen, so the water that is put back in rivers must be really, really well treated to avoid environmental impact. In most regions - there is plenty of water in the reservoirs and aquafiers. It's the keeping up with demand that is the issue. Water treatment works cannot treat the water quickly enough to meet the supply demands. All water companies carry massive debt. It's not a tax dodge. It's the nature of an asset intensive industry. But things are changing. Technology is enabling the networks to be smarter, moving flows and supply around the system to meet different demand patterns rather than the blunt approach of building more tanks and storage.

Why should there be an incentive to encourage female (or any) members to join outside of members of school age? If they show an interest and wish to join a club then great, I'm sure they will be welcomed and assisted as equally as any other new member, if not then crack on with whatever it is that does interest you. I'm sick of all this preferential treatment to encourage members of society outside of the core majority. 30+ years in the Government\Public service has taught me that preferential treatment for anybody breeds nothing but mistrust, contempt and resentment. It's not a healthy solution.

Flew my Monterrey alongside legends - Chris Foss, Stan Yeo, Sean Bannister and a few other heroes in a cross country event. Sean's brand new Algebra beat the socks off everyone. I came last. Still remember it every time I drive past on the M5 to see my grandkids in Devon. Nostalgia, it ain't what it used to be! I agree. They are a great bunch and totally shattered my pre-conceptions about being back in a club environment! Spent a fantastic day with the guys from the West Mendips Soaring Association at Crook Peak last week. Weather was amazing - only downside was the Easterly wind giving very variable lift on the worst face of a fantastic site. Did not spoil the fun though. Really tested your flying and even the thermals were breaking down at quite low altitudes. I loved the fact that all the models in the air would have to make a landing within a minute of each other as the lift decayed and the trees were waiting to swallow up the models. Really chilled out group. I introduced myself and asked what the drill was. "Launch in lift here, and land there" was the comprehensive response. Loved the easy going nature of it all. Was really made to feel welcome and enjoyed the slope side banter. It was also a sobering experience to be out-soared by a Lidl glider... Will return when next in the area.

Test flew in the calm between thunderstorms. Exceeded expectations. Launched on 20% power initially and then pulled it near vertical to around 150m. Stall and dive tests revealed CG needs moving forwards a smidgeon. Hang time for a 1.5m glider is amazing. Weighs around 440 grams with a wing loading of around 6oz/sq ft. Funny how we mix units... Little 2S 1300 battery gave me a 40 min dead air flight with 50% charge remaining. First time with Spektrum. Liking the programming interface. Edited By FilmBuff on 07/06/2018 19:10:13 -

So... My soldering skills were not the issue. The Castle Creation ESC was not able to start the motor with the prop and had no programmable options to change timing or soft start parameters. Swapped out for a JR enrg one. Ran faultlessly with a soft start and powerful brake. Irritating to have to do loads of soldering and whipping the motor in and out. But got there😀
