  1. Alistair, cheers mate, I have Pheonix (unfortunately 5 now which is not as good as 4, don't care what they say), any road up, I shall give these exercises a go, probably after re-installing v4! I do believe that using the flight simulator has had positive beneficial results for me, I tootled around for hours onscreen with my cub trainer, then took the real thing out into the wild world and just repeated my little tx hand movements, impressive flying for me! Probably not for everyone but certainly works for me.
  2. Has anyone any experience of the CS Engines Navo VTE series, 0.375, 0.5, 0.75 and 1.3. Very familiar aren't they. They look just like Mills as well. Steve Webb do them, and I have had nothing but good service from SWM. If I get good feedback I shall be back to 2ch with a nice little diesel up front next year. Lovely!
  3. Mr. PC Vere you rotten sod, I have been looking for a 'useable' .75 for what seems like forever. First engine I ever got to perform and I've had that good old soft spot for em ever since (1970 16yrs old). An early Vic Smeed free flight just bimbling around the sky on a dead calm afternoon. Sigh! Enjoy and well done for finding one.
  4. Here' one I made earlier, 1967 in fact. Cast in brass, it originally had black tin rotating triple blades, my kids had them off in th early 80's. I went to a 'Technical Grammar School' metalwork and technical drawing in my very first week there. I became an Engineer to the astonishment of the school staff who were convinced I would become a total waste of space! I suppose that still depends on your point of view.
  5. Next year I'm going to ask Santa for 'hindsight'.
  6. I got my own pressy but it hasn't quite worked as planned. I have 4 builds on the go so when told 90% complete Blemhiem I though lovely! Er, let's try 40% complete as most of it needs 'deconstructing'. Oh Winnie the Stuff! Pictures will follow.
  7. It is early but OK, Merry Christmas to all who use this superb forum. Almost at the end of my first year on here, I have had excellent advice and suggestions, never let down when I needed help, always got a solution that worked, enough of us with a sense of humour to keep that end up and loads of 'I didn't know that' moments. Well done everyone, thanks to the mods, even if I did use a naughty word early on (all I said was ############### !).
  8. Dear Santa, can I please have a big fat bank account and a nice thin body? Please try not to get it all mixed like you did last year, and the one before, and before that...........
  9. Why don't you check out eBay for that bargain doormat, ' Please leave Xmas presents on mat.....then go away! '.
  10. Great photos, I really would love to see more !
  11. A very important note from Erfolg, I've mentioned on many other topics that I am far more of a builder than a pilot, a big reason for this maybe that after I have devoted so much time and attention to creating a really good model I have a dread of the maiden flight. I am not a good enough pilot to set my trims quick enough. So far I have not 'black bagged' anything, but I have been so close with atrocious quick landings and once shutting everything down and letting a cub glide away on its own, picking it out of a wheat field half a mile away. As a club member I would get help with my pilot skills and be able to ask another pilot to maiden and set trims for me. I am more than capable of setting everything up afterwards particularly as I can programme each planes setting into my dx6 after adjusting clevices and servo throws. Maybe I'll sell up and move nearer to a club! Drastic maybe but a solution at least.
  12. Hmmm, I'm totally elecy but keep thinking about a little dabble with Ic, then I read about things like this, what is not exactly a major problem but I still say "forget it, I really don't need that much hassle. At least all that happens with elecy is, well lots of things now I think about, maybe I'll go back to my room now!
  13. Chin up old chap, always look on the bright side, and as many other clichés and plagiarisms as I can shake a 1/16" balsa stringer at. All will be roses and champagne one day, well daisies and scrumpy cider in my case, I am convinced I could not possibly be that unlucky again and yes I totally believe that the only way to really learn is with help from experienced pilots at your local club (just have to be a bit flexible with the term 'local'. The Missus says "all will come out in the wash" I daren't tell you what I will do if she does wash all my planes!
  14. 146mm is very handy, I shall give them a ring and the devastate the wife's debit card. ( that was a stupid thing to say wasn't it, I have more chance platting fog than even getting sight of her plastic)
  15. So I put the cat among the pigeons a little with my comments, but good news! Reading through other responses, mostly positive, it gives me hope that some of those lacking in the social skills will either learn or hopefully 'move on over'. There are some incredibly talented and skilled fliers out there, especially those considerably younger than my majority. Ideal candidates if they could be encouraged to pass on their natural ability to others. No matter what happens I certainly will not return to the scene of my most embarrassing in even degrading moment in aero modelling, shame because it was just a 20 minute 15 mile drive, now I'm looking at an hour, even more sometimes to get to the next club, not even in the same county! Think positive (says Mr. Grumpy old git).
  16. And I am not 'negative' ! I love this hobby and was even asked by several mates why I don't start another club, I would love to if I could get very experienced fliers and builders along, there is available land, but that isn't the point, the clubs already exist, maybe the one I visited just needs an introduction to the cattle prodder ! 17. To me it just looks so complete with the Mk1 nose, after that I doesn't work for me at all, still my favourite twin, after the Mozzy !
  18. I will also renew my bmfa in January, but I will still need to join a club or do something eventually to at least get my 'A' cert. I don't want to fly around as 'Johnny no mates' for ever. I find it worrying that clubs complain about too few members and certainly not enough of the younger generation, then when someone new does turn up they are hardly encouraged and sometimes actually looked down on. Do they want this hobby to become exclusive to those whom have flown 'forever' ? I would love to see this hobby and passion receive the recognition I fell we deserve, but some attitudes need 'correctional behaviour'.
  19. Cheers, thanks for that. Is slec internet only or do they have an outlet, I only live about 45 minutes from them.
  20. Despite all the advice from practically everyone on this forum, I'm also teaching myself, very slowly and cautiously admitted. Check out my post on 'have a rant' around 11th November, now my nearest other club is over an hour drive away, makes for a long and expensive few flights so I fly 'after harvest'.
  21. Unreal ! Makes Airfix , Mattel etc look clumsy and crude. Awesome !
  22. I am following a plan from New Zealand ( unusuall to say the least) it uses mostly 1/6 inch balsa sheet ! That's a new one on me. So simple maffs says 4mm will be close enough, can't find any. O.K., 5/32 inch is also very close, no luck there either. So I have laminated 1/16 onto 3/32, but once dried it was like an edge on boomerang. I dampened the sheet, held in down flat with weights and ran her hot travel iron over it. Now it curves just as much but the other way, repeat exercise again, and again and again! anyone got clues to get it straightened or do light the fire with it and use 3/16?
  23. Best 'music' video I watched for quite some time, should almost be compulsory viewing for warbird builders and fliers, well found!
