  1. Did I read somewhere that slight creases / minor impact damage can be repaired by holding the relevant section over a boiling kettle (carefully)!. A friend has got a bit of "nose damage", which although not bad, needs a bit of attention. Any ideas / help gratefully received.

Posted by SIMON CRAGG on 22/02/2018 11:04:12: Posted by Kiwikanfli on 22/02/2018 08:16:55: Or you can get the FMS version with 80mm fan for us $369.99 with free shipping direct from FMS **LINK** That is very competitive. Not sure how to work out the import tax. Real nuisance!. Just checked on the import tax and VAT. Total of £97.00. Back to the drawing board!.

  4. Posted by Rocker on 21/02/2018 22:03:15: Try R C Castle ,they are in Hong Kong but excellent service ,quick to and the postage will be a lot cheaper then Motion RC in the USA I order the upgrade retracts for the Hawk from R C Castle on a Monday and they arrived on the following Friday a lot quicker then some UK suppliers and they have the Hawk in stock ready for delivery Just sent you a pm.
  5. Sounds good. Not many of the usual shops are selling these at the moment.Looked at getting one direct from the states but postage etc. no good. Thx for your info.
  6. I know that there are not many of these about, but has anybody got one? Any info. gratefully received !.
  7. I am in the process of getting one of these. Please could you tell me which battery you are using and any other hints / tips / mods etc? Safe flying!
  8. According to Hobbyking the V3 version will incorporate; A more powerful motor / fan Stronger u/c mounts Rudders Stronger booms Better servos Plus some other improvements Watch this space!
  9. Have to say that the feedback from this forum is very positive!. After reading a lot of negative comments elsewhere (Fans exploding, blades out of balance, retracts collapsing etc. etc.), I was in two minds, but overall seems to be a good model (when they are back in stock).
  10. Great info. Many thanks chaps. Safe flying!
  11. Posted by Don Fry on 18/02/2018 14:11:19: I've got one. It flies very nicely. I've never owned a ducted fan before, and the noise on takeoff is great. Bit of Dutch roll. It is light, it loses speed very quickly when power is off, but that may be me used to heavier models. The biggest battery you can get in is a 2000 4s, dispite what HK says, indeed it says on the box it goes on a 2000 battery. HK don't give control throws. There is a set in the reviews on the machine, a long way down. On the reviews they all seem to want to put the CG forward from recommended. I set mine as the manufacturers say, and it is IMO, still too far forward, but a reasonable position. It must be horrible if you follow the reviews. One caveat. While well put in, the undercarriage is small, with very small wheels. You need a smooth surface to operate off. And the take off run is a bit vague until rudder authority kicks in. But if you have a REALY smooth take off area the nose wheel would have better authority. Agreed, Reading the various reviews all suggest bringing the c/g forward to 290. These may all have been based on the V1 though not sure. Fill in the u/c recesses and chuck launch seems the way to go. A bit less weight / drag and piece of cake to belly land. Most of the reviews recommend a 3300 will fit fine. All in all, sounds / looks like a great model for the money.
  12. Have read some good reports about these. Has anybody got one / crashed one?.
  13. Many thanks for the info. They do seem very popular. RC Forum has 54 pages of comment. One interesting point is that the model has a few degrees of "reflex" built in. Has anybody noticed this? Does it appear to make any difference? Any hints / tips gratefully received.
  14. The Army used to have a team called the "MATS(A) team that flew Merco .61 powered models as targets on range days. Everything from small arms to main armament was usually fired at them. They were given a transit (ish) vehicle and filled it with engines (no exhausts), 13x6 blue plastic props, hundreds of idle bar glow plugs, VERY heavy models with a parachute built in to the cockpit, Skyleader radio gear (nice push/pull servos), fuel (straight + petrol mix!), plus all the other gubbins to support them. There were several teams. They travelled the World!. Even flying from ships when we had a navy. How do I know all this? I used to organise range days in BAOR many moons ago, and as a keen modeller the swaps and bartering that could be done would make your eyes water!.
  15. Many thx. Which Lipo are using and how long do you expect the average flight to last?
  16. Anybody seen, flown, crashed the FMS Hawk?. On the face of it, looks a good bit of kit!.
  17. Posted by Pete Willbourn on 14/11/2017 14:31:51: my Gnatty 1984 OS 25 FSR powered I think I have a Hawk fuz in the loft , fibreglass, free to anyone who wants it !!powered Edited By Pete Willbourn on 14/11/2017 14:33:40 Hi Pete Just sent you a pm thx
  18. Posted by john stones 1 on 14/11/2017 13:51:02:   Edited By SIMON CRAGG on 14/11/2017 21:18:00 OOps, my bad! Edited By SIMON CRAGG on 14/11/2017 21:19:45
  19. Super Gnatty...thats the one! I had the Phantom, which much like my Hawk flew on rails and looked much more of a handful than it was!. Unless I get a decent offer for the Hawk, I'll keep it...and just upset the electric bods!!
  20. Posted by MaL on 14/11/2017 10:01:43: I seem to remember the gnatty having a simple flat tail - with the Hawk having the anhedral one?? I learnt to fly with my gnatty...ended up weighing a ton with all the glass fibre repairs No, the Gnatty had a f/g fuz, shoulder swept back wing and anhedral stab. Think mine had an Enya .61 in it, and flew very well until the tail folded in a turn. Nice looking model, but was heavy, and I was gutted when it went in. Probably quite a few suffered the same fate.
  21. Thx for the replies. Deffo a Hawk! I had a Gnatty, with anhedral tail which folded.....you know the rest. I think it may have also been sold by the Peterborough Model Centre, but not sure. Bit like the Cambrian fun fighters....changed retailers once or twice. Had a look at the FMS version but price a bit heavy for a foamie. On the face of it, looks like I will keep the Hawk I get 15 min. flights if I take it easy, and 10 mins if I give it the beans. So no contest really.
  22. I am in a bit of a quandry! I have got one of the original BAE Hawks that Leicester Model Centre used to sell many years ago, and that have not been available for many years. It is a great flyer, and really looks the part. Much easier to handle than it looks and coupled with a good ASP .75 has adequate power. However, the hobby has moved on as we all know. I am thinking of selling it and getting the new Freewing Hawk which comes out in December. Bells and whistles job which needs a decent 4000 6s lipo. One of the downsides is that mentioned in the video review "it will only last about 2 mins at full power", which seems a bit short to say the least. I am not an expert on ducted fan models, so am still not 100% sure this is the way to go, assuming I can sell the ic Hawk to help fund the new model. Can anybody offer advise on this murky subject please?. Thanks. Simon.
  23. Another vote for Weston UK. Competitive pricing and amazing service. I have been using Prosynth for many years. Brilliant stuff!.
  24. Does anybody know of a programming card which works with this esc?. Easier than trying to follow the beeps!
