  1. Oh I completely agree! But you still need to buy some stuff to analyse, and you always learn more with mistakes than with successes, or at least I seem to. This return to modelling after 25 years is really setting me back, I have raised other threads on here outlining this but, I have had to buy two Tx sets (due to no instructors on my mode) I bought a really nice JR PCM9XII which wasn't cheap (always get what you pay for with a TX I think). The old engines I had were all seized, so a new engine. I refused to do ARTF so bought a WOT4, a small amount of building supplies, just two flights and I am already off down the electric path with all the expense that entails LOL I can see the enjoyment in both ic and electric, operating an ic is a bit like a BBQ you could have a gas one, but the bloke in me just must make fire LOL.
  2. LOL you've been sniffing cyano haven't you ;) I think your gear is a little more high end than I need at this point LOL Just had a look at Aurorra.co.uk and the Medusa range does look good. I have certainly saved the bookmark :) I am off now to manually make a cup of tea LOL Thanks again
  3. I am in computer hardware so the advances in techology should not really surprise me, but it still does. your numbers make perfect sense. I have been advised to get a wattmeter or at least a clamp type ammeter, have you any recomendations?
  4. I have the drawings for a Brian Taylor Hurricane that I will probably start next winter, and yes having seen the results of some of the guys electrifying these bigger models it is impressive. I will wait and see how my little dabble in the electric side goes first. It has not been cheap so far, and I still have to find a small Rx and mini servos. I am looking at the small battery pack and tiny esc, not too mention the tiny motor and big prop, just trying to imagine how this can possibly pull up to an 800 gram model around LOL
  5. You are quite right the cables are only $3 LOL daft not to get them. Thanks Mike I do appreciate your help, I am ordering mine as we speak/type LOL Cheers
  6. Hi Mike, thanks, sorry to be such a nuisance, the connectors on the edge look like white JST, do I need to buy the optional adaptors for the black connectors on my EVO 20 pack??
  7. Hi Mike can you point me to the website you used as it isn't quite so obvious, also what model did you get? Cheers
  8. Thats impressive! I also buy a lot of stuff from the States and I don't think it has ever arrived quicker than two weeks...
  9. I thought the idea with this electric game was just a model and a transmitter LOLOL How long did the Tenergy gear take to arrive and did you get clobbered for customs??
  10. Thanks Mike, the smaller gel type sounds like what I need does it have to have a particularily large capacity? a golf cart battery sounds like it will be a bit of a weight to carry across the field LOL
  11. Hi Mike, thanks for your information, I will certainly take a look on the Tenergy site, it looks exactly what I want. The pack I have is the flightpower 150 EVO 20 and it does indeed have four smaller wires, 3 red and 1 black, does this need a special connector for the Tenergy unit? I presume for home use you have a mains supply to simulate the 12v battery or do you use a car battery? Just as an aside what sort of 12 volt batts do guys use? small car batts, bike or specialist ones etc??
  12. Thanks Shaun thats great I will have a rummage on the net :)
  13. The Flair models I built several years ago "Scout" series were all of excellent quality. Some guys in the Newbies section are building the Flair Cub and apart from Antony having some very badly warped bulkheads reports seem good. Alas I do not know the Kite other than several of the schools use them which must stand for something. I have built a Chris Foss Wot 4 to get back in the swing and I must say it is a lovely flyer, even in strong winds when others are grounded. I too also suffered from warped bulkheads, maybe its a sign of the light-ply times.
  14. Well done to them both. I remember many moons ago my first aileron trainer was a Mick Reeves Gangster 52 flew in any weather like it was on rails. Are you looking to build or ARTF?
  15. Thanks Shaun and Steve, do you know if the connectors for the Rx's you mention will mate to most of the aftermarket servos, such as Hitec, GWS etc?
  16. Hi Pat, thats good news I can turn my Tx to PPM and use one of the tiny Rx's. Thanks for that :)
  17. Hi Mike, What model Tenergy is this and how much was it? I am loking for a sensibly priced lipo charger, mains and dc driven that will charge and balance my new Flightpower EVO 20 pack. Any other recomendations??
  18. Can anyone tell me if I can mix a crystal (ie non-synthesised) Rx with a synthesised Tx. I am trying 400 electric and can't seem to find any mini synthesised Rx. Cheers
  19. Thanks Alistair, I know what you mean my thread yesterday took two attempts, the system was altered a bit yesterday I suspect that was the cause. I originally was going for the 1500Kv but thought the revs would be too high so opted for the 830Kv and you are right I have just checked the order and it is the 2822 LOL I am still not sure whether you can use a standard crystal Rx with a synthesised Tx, I may post a thread asking just that question. Thanks for your advice on the servos, I suppose at worst I can always solder my own leads on to whatever arrives. Cheers
  20. Still struggling a bit LOL I have opted for a 125W CF2812 830KV Brushless motor, a 12-15A 'FLY' ESC. A Slo Fly 9 x 6 and a prop saver. I am looking at a 1500 3s1p pack. What do you reckon? I am hoping this will cover a range of potential models. I am struggling with a receiver and servos, I have a JRPCM9XII synthesised system, what sort of Rx can I use, ie only synthesised or can I use crystal Rx's, also if I bought GWS mini servos what connectors would they have? JR, Futaba, GWS?? etc...
  21. Hi Cenk, An inverted engine can be difficult to start if the prime is even slightly over-exuberant as the fuel will quench the plug. I often had to start a Tiger Moth I had years ago inverted, then once running flip it over. It did however idle fine either way up. Is the centreline of the tank in line with the carb? Perhaps a hotter plug might help with the idle??
  22. I assume you are installing the Cd in your machine and selecting install PlaneMaster?? If you right click on your desktop screen, and select properties. Then select the settings tab. Select Advanced and then the Adaptor tab. This will be your video adaptor. Mine, for example says GeForce4 MX 460. The version of the driver used should also be displayed. There may be a newer one available on the net. Also check that yours supports DirectX8. You may want to contact RealityCraft tech support for help, as I am not sure I should lead you through the vaguries of re-creating your XP config files, not unless you are confident about backing up your registry and creating restore points. You may also want to download ADAWARE and SPYBOT on the web, they are freebie virus scanning software, and check that your machine is clean. Take a look at this: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/324767 Good luck :)
  23. What operating system are you running on your pc? I have had Planemaster working on all versions of XP, you sometimes need to ensure you have the latest video driver to avoid the icons displaying incorrectly. The message you are getting seems to be pointing to a corrupt config.nt, autoexec.nt, or command.com

Hi Antony, I am glad you are able to smile. I read somewhere that if you are afraid of crashing, take up golf! Hopefully you will have it repaired soon. I managed to finally be in the same place as an instructor today and for the first time in 25 years wiggled my thumbs and flew circuits around the club field. I flew for 20 minutes or so even doing some aerobatics. The rates were set quite low on the Wot 4 which caught me out when I did a roll, it was soooooo slow! I had to feed in opposite rudder and down elevator to keep it from losing a drastic amount of altitude. I was really chuffed that after all these years I could still do it. After the first few circuits I said the rudders powerful, to which the instructor said, "you're using the rudder?" (The flight simulator really helps.) The control was whisked away from me when the engine died suddenly, at low altitude, Chris performed a text book dead stick landing. Unfortunately I only had time for the one flight before domestic duties called and I had to drive home a very happy chappie. Hope everybody else has had a succesful day :)Roll on next weekend!
