Welcome back Murray, more rusty thumbs, theres a few of us now LOLOL. I am up in the Midlands near Lichfield, so cannot really be of much assistance. If you look on the BMFA website there is a club listing, though sometimes this is frustrating as it gives club names but not always addresses LOL http://BMFA.org/clubs/
  2. I am no expert on this however, I had an OS 40 2 stroke that had not run for 25 years. It was coked up solid. I tried all sorts of soaking methods, but nothing worked. This may sound drastic but I applied a fair bit of heat from an electric paint stripper, I applead it from a distance so that the engines temeperature was raised evenly. Just as light wisps of blue smoke appeared from the head/crankcase, (25 year old castor getting hot) the engine freed up with no effort at all. This obviosly could only be done if you drained and dried the engine. I would hate to think what would happen if you still had any flammable fluid in the engine from soaking!! Once the engine cooled, I dribbled straight fuel in the carb to free it up completely. You may be lucky and the bearings survive, mine have been fine.
  3. I have yet to meet someone that has fitted the SP in an enclosed cowling. I am contemplating whether one of these (90 size SP) would be suitable for a BT Hurricane. Brian Taylor originally used a Laser 75. Keep us updated on how the 120 performs Michael, I for one would be very interested. What's the span of the Corsair by the way?
  4. Hi Timbo, I just found a function called P-Link which seemed to imply that it would sync the two Tx's but it did not do quite what i thought it would do LOL. Have done as you suggested sync'd the two manually, the worst is the throttle. The aileron elevator and rudder was fine you just match the numbers. Do you tend to trim a model to a specific throttle setting and not change it after that? I guess if you set the throttle trim to centre for a reliable idle, and anything lower to cut the engine, then it just needs centreing after a flight. Thanks for the advice :) it is much appreciated
  5. I didn't want to start a row guys, thanks for all the advice :)

Well done Angus, one up for the simulator gang then. I have done hours on the flaming thing. Just bought another Tx, this return to flying is costing me a bundle. I now have another JR a 2720 to go with the PCM9X11. The PCM on mode 1 for the instructor and the new 2720 on mode 11 for me. No reason I can't get an instructor now! I have some catching up to do with you and Clarky! Hi Bryan I envy your weather, but perhaps not the isolation, let us know how you get on :)
  7. Hi Timbo yes you can it seems, but only to another JR, it has to be the master if linked to a Futaba. This return to flying is costing me a lot of money and so far I havent flow an inch! I have just been out and bought a new JR2720 and connected it to my JR PCM9X11,The PCM is on mode 1 the 2720 on Mode 11. The real problem was matching travels, expo, etc. How do you guys cope with the instructor changing the trim during flight? is it a case of the instructor calling two clicks up, so that the student can synchronise?? Roll on next weekend, maybe I will get to fly again after 25 years!
  8. Peter I heard back from Bob too, he seems to think Unitract may still have some, not sure which size, did you get through to them in the end? Anybody on this forum got the plan Peter is after???
  9. Thanks Pat I will have a good rummage through your links tomorrow, thanks for that :)
  10. Thanks guys that sounds like excellent advice, any brands/suppliers that you would recomend? you say avoid discount priced lipos, how would I recognise one to be avoided?
  11. Hi Michael, i would like one of these SP series, the engineering is quite revolutionary to say the least. I have read several threads on the RCV engines on other sites and I have not come across your problem, what I have seen is the level of customer service seems very good. And I think you have confirmed it. What are you going to put the motor in, and how are you managing airflow around the cylider for cooling?
  12. Hi Clarky, I would have said 10 x 6, 11 x 4, 11 x 6 somewhere in that area?
  13. Timbo that's brilliant, you have cleared up so much. and I guess the 100 watt per lb of model now fits in to the equation as well. Well done!
  14. Dave have you been sniffing Prosynth :-) LOLOL what is an X-Twin, dare I ask? I daren't google it I am sure my firewall will have a fit! PS we all have a Sea Fury fetish, but don't let on...... ;-)
  15. Hi Jonathan thanks for that, its not the models I have the problem with its the motor, ESC, and batteries, What cheap package could I get that would power a fun fighter sized model? ie 32" - 36" Or even say a 40" lightweight cub. It would need to be small and fairly slow to fly in the local park. Any thoughts?
  16. I was toying with a 2/3rds electric Wot4 - "Watt 4" but can't figure out all this leccy stuff LOL

Hi Graham that would be good scale project, pick a plane, research, design the drawings (or modify available ones) build, and fly. Start to finish scale LOL If you have your camera, and the weather is bright, I would certainly love to have some pictures, I will build her one day. Its certainly worth a pint or two if you make it to any of the Midlands events. I did find this on the web, url[http://www.jetphotos.net/viewphoto.php?id=5722922]
  18. Ahhhh I just sent him a mail thanking him for my mouldings arriving, and I thought I would tag on the Tempest plans query LOLOL hope you don't mind. Oh well....

  20. Peter, has Bob Holman still got any stock of the Tempest V plans? Might be worth an E-mail? [email protected]

Hi Spence, alas not. Officially I never flew, if you get my drift. Growing up around light aircraft the way I did I was always in the back of something with my dad flying, whizzing off to inspect some wreck somewhere in the UK. It was very unnoficial and you flew by railway lines, and it wasn't unheard of to swoop down to check motorway signs if you were really unsure where you were LOL wouldn't be allowed nowadays and probably quite right to. I hope we don't get thrown of this site for all our full size ramblings lolol. Any of the newbies/returnees fancy meeting up at Weston for a beer and story swap in June, they must have a beer tent?
  22. No such bad reports on the Hurri Peter, apparently the laser parts are all okay. and if you saw the fus formers with all those stringer notches that must be accurate as it shows on the surface, you would buy the laser parts LOL there are still plenty of bits to fret over (sorry for the pun)
  23. Somehow I don't think Peter will mind LOL To me these sites are for more than just answering questions, appologies peter If I am wrong :)

Hi Graham thats great that its still flying, My father and I had to put it down in a farmers field once on the way back to Yorkshire from Old warden. The weather closed in from all sides and it got dangerous so we had to land. it is amazing how clear fields look until youre commited to landing. We managed to chose one that was sloping, had telegraph wires, and low bushes! Despite a low pass to check it first. We had to take off again and move to an adjacent field as the cows that were hiding in our chosen field are known to chew on fabric. The farmer was at the gate to meet us, he wasn't smiling as we had scared his cattle. Happy days, say hi to her for me Graham.
  25. I am looking at building a light-weight fun fighter sized model, (32" ish) no wheels, hand launch. What is the cheapest leccy motor/battery/ESC set-up that should get it flying around? Not worried too much about startling performance at first, just want to go park flying. So perhaps brushed motor with NiCd.
