  1. I think it may even have been from Halfords but some time ago. It was the two resings that were bought last year that gave me a headache as they would not cure. At least this stuff cured! I sure had a hell of a mess for some time. I agree with some of the pilots heads but it is only going to be there to keep a few of the pundits happy. Phil Kraft never had any and I prefer not to have any. It is a flying aerobatic model and is a designed tool for that purpose. It isnt scale nor does it even purport to be anything similar. I like the idea of Elvis for a pilot though. Guess that would look pretty cool I will keep a look out for Elvis but I have just recently heard the real one has sadly parted, but ofcourse we shouldnt listen to rumours
  2. I cant find any matching orange paint so its going to be red in the cockpit and in the engine bay. Its supposed to be fuel proof but it will probably end up having a coat of Tufcoat just to be sure about things in the fuel bay. I couldn't decide if it should have a pilot. PK's plane never ever had one as far as I know but they look so silly to people who don't fly them that planes without them caused so many comments as to "where is the pilot" and the worst one from the wife that I have decided that it will have one. Sorry Phil. They win every time.
  3. I believe that the BMFA still have some SMAE stickers left.
  4. I should have by the time this comes around a Bar-Fli as well as a Slik-Fli but not really sure if the latter will qualify. It was published as a plan circa 1969@import url(http://www.modelflying.co.uk/CuteEditor_Files/Style/SyntaxHighlighter.css);@import url(/CuteEditor_Files/public_forums.css);
  5. Posted by kc on 08/10/2011 16:13:26: The Kwik Fli 3 has been mentioned a few times and now that the dimensioned drawings aare available to download ( see previous section ) it can be built without buying a plan from USA. It's a classic aerobatic design which has an excellent pedigree.. For me it's a little too large at 60 inch span for a .60 and the 2/3 scaled down version - Flea Fli- is a little too small at 40 inch for .19 to .25. So as the dimensions are shown its easy to draw it again at 3/4 scale for 48 inch span which would suit, say, a .32 glow or electric perhaps 300 to 400 watt.   A classic shape with simple bubble canopy ......anybody else interested in a 48 inch version? Well, if the Kwik-Fli III is too large for a .60 (or .61!) then I'm having fun building a Bar-Fli at 58" which was the model Phil used for the world champs in Corsica I believe in case the weather should be windy. I have built the Flea-Fli and a great little plane it was too. I sold it on and lived to regret it. I do keep on meaning to do a 2/3 version of either the Bar-Fli or the Kwik-Fli (II or III). Could anyone get a plan scaled down or tell me where I may get such a thing done? @import url(http://www.modelflying.co.uk/CuteEditor_Files/Style/SyntaxHighlighter.css);@import url(/CuteEditor_Files/public_forums.css);
  6. Have just tried it out on my new DX8 and had ALL my variations sorted in about 10 minutes. I guess that would have been an hour with the DSX11 and I would still be there with the high end Futaba. That makes me very pleased with my DX8 and pleased I have put the DSX11 on eBay.@import url(http://www.modelflying.co.uk/CuteEditor_Files/Style/SyntaxHighlighter.css);@import url(/CuteEditor_Files/public_forums.css);
  7. If you do use epoxy do not be too sparing with the amount you mix and do not mix on a porous surface. Personally I avoid 5minute epoxy sticking (no pun intended) to a 30 minimum type more because it remains stable in the long term (talking months to years) If anyone has seen an epoxy joint a few years later you may see a discoloration - and its also much weaker - if the 5 minute stuff was used. @import url(http://www.modelflying.co.uk/CuteEditor_Files/Style/SyntaxHighlighter.css);@import url(/CuteEditor_Files/public_forums.css);
  8. Does either the Phil Kraft Bar-Fli (preferred choice) or the Kwik-Fly Mk III count? If so I can join the builders list. Just need to know that answer before I get to that building board. I am currently building a Phil Kraft Slik-Fli but not sure if that fits in at all. Its about a 1969 era.@import url(/CuteEditor_Files/public_forums.css);
  9. Having thought about this what I want to do on my DX8 is this: A setup where the inboard flaps do nothing A setup where the inboard flaps are coupled elevator/flap A setup where I could use the flaps as flaps for landing and it would be nice to have another where the flaps are also working as ailerons but obvioulsly inboard.   Now, is it possible? Remembering 8 channel receiver with 2 ail 2 flap and 1 brakes also used. Also it has to be the DX8 which I prefer to the DSX11
  10. Thats an interesting thought but can the glider setups be used when there is an engine to control. Surely not. I thought if I set it up as a glider to get all the wing configs it wouldnt be any use as there would be no throttle to elevator mix (for example)@import url(http://www.modelflying.co.uk/CuteEditor_Files/Style/SyntaxHighlighter.css);@import url(/CuteEditor_Files/public_forums.css);
  11. I had a DX8 but had a few issues (like losing the RF link which resulted in losing three aircraft) but that was resolved with a replacement. However, I digress. I then had a DX11 as it offered more options - or so I thought by the hype. Not so many that warrants the extra. Now I have gone back to using the DX8 which did everything better and easier than the DX11 and MAINLY because of the telemetry aspect. Its nice to be able to check that receiver voltage and to know if the engine is lean or to have your hands shaken to warn you to land. If anyone ever knocks this radio at least I can say that a radio twice the cost was not anywhere near as good as the telemetry capable DX8. It rocks - and you dont think you need the telemetry. Get used to it. Sell it. YOu will then want another becaus you have become so used to having it. Not used all the time admittedly but it is there!
  12. I am setting up my radio for a Phil Kraft slik Fli. It has two flaps and two ailerons all with individual servos. I would prefer to use my DX8 because of the feedback but could use my DX11 which in theory at least may provide more options. Thats what I am asking here. I wnat to have it set so at least there is flap/elevator mixing that I can switch out. - No problem there. I aslo want to switch so I can have a much larger movement on the flaps for landing. Also I would like to switch so I can have flap/ele mixing over the entire wing (ailerons and flaps) Is this possible on both radios (Bearing in mind my preference for the DX8) and how could this be accomplished? Crow for landing may be nice too! Please lets have some good ideas for this. Mr Kraft never had the luxury of a computer radio so I want to see what can be done in this day and age.
  13. I wonder if it caused a reduction in circulation figures. The £ sign in this country always seems to be the dominant reason for every thing. If it #did# have an effect perhaps they may have reconsidered.@import url(http://www.modelflying.co.uk/CuteEditor_Files/Style/SyntaxHighlighter.css);@import url(/CuteEditor_Files/public_forums.css);
  14. A year or so ago I used to subscribe to RCM&E via a quarterly subscription but I stopped it a few months ago. This was affordable, but now I have tried to re-instate my subscription only to find I have to find enough money for a years subscription. Is it not possible to have the Direct Debit quarterly subscription back again?@import url(http://www.modelflying.co.uk/CuteEditor_Files/Style/SyntaxHighlighter.css);@import url(/CuteEditor_Files/public_forums.css);
  15. The more information you can get on any given plan the better the decision you can make as to not you want to actually build it. Being cynical by nature perhaps that is the ulterior motive for NOT providing the information. We may then buy less plans than otherwise. Certainly two or three pictures of a completed model and as some other person suggested perhaps a small portion of the plan. I myself, recently bought two EP powered designs only to find they were both nothing like what I had anticipated as both were for Ni-Cad power at least certainly not Li-Po which meant it had just been a waste of my money.@import url(http://www.modelflying.co.uk/CuteEditor_Files/Style/SyntaxHighlighter.css);@import url(/CuteEditor_Files/public_forums.css);

  19. Real pain with the centre section glass fibre. Not sure if I had the wrong hardener (are not all resin hardeners the same? Apparently not!) Anyway, it didn't cure. I tried another resin and hardner combination. No success, so I went round all the shops this morning trying to get a fibre glass repair kit to no avail. This morning I removed all the tape and resin - lovely messy job that! I found another tube of hardener and this time it worked. Not sure I want to fibre glass that fuel bay and engine bay now! @import url(/CuteEditor_Files/public_forums.css);
  20. I hoped that the nose leg steering arm (tiller!) could be installed internally but alas this could not be no matter what permutation I used. There is a little vertical movement allowed on the leg since it is sprung and gives a very slight relief to the airframe. I eventually had to settle for an external linkage. I have also included a large drain hole in the tank bay. The nose wheel steering is by a nylon in nylon rod to allow for the bend. Yes, under some circumstances it could give but that's the theory. I don't build planes to crash so the idea of a rock solid bowden cable set up was a no no from the word go. Most of the airframe is now complete and I am currently installing a doubler (1/8" ply) above the wing where the wing is bolted. One bolt maybe but I don't think there will be much chance of it breaking as was suggested early in the thread by a few people. Even nylon in tension is very strong and in shear - well that would happen only in a cartwheel and I am not planning on any of those! @import url(http://www.modelflying.co.uk/CuteEditor_Files/Style/SyntaxHighlighter.css);@import url(/CuteEditor_Files/public_forums.css);
