  1. I live near selby north yorkshire, are there any slope sites within a few miles of here?.
  2. Hi. JohnI have converted my ASP 52 4 stroke, and used Just Engines cdi unit, I had the same trouble with mine, cutting when fitting on cowl, I placed one of the fuel tank vent's near the carb intake to balance the pressure and it cured it! The filler pipe is blocked off when filled the main needle is set 3/4 of a turn from closed, [no pressure feed}, and it runs and start's super.no problems.Gerry.  p,s.oil mix 20 to 1.
  3. Duog, what sort of problems are you having with engine? GERRY.
  4. Best of luck Doug, Carn't wait to fly mine, weather seems to be improving, so might get a flight soon, [fingers crossed}.P.S. Take it easy when drilling hole for magnet!.
  5. Doug,The propdrive on mine has a groove turned in it. I managed to drill it by holding it in the benchdrill vice, and used a drill size same as magnet minus a couple of thou: pressed the magnet in to just below the surface of the propdriver and then filled the groove in with car body filler then smooth it down, theres no way it's going to come out, {mine hasn't}                  Brian,Im using 2 stroke oil, at 20 to 1, and there,s a slight residue out of the exhaust, so oil must be getting round.  It's run for about an hour {on and off } up to now and nothings happened yet!!
  6. I didn't use any gaskets on my ASP 52. A.R. as the compresion wasn't that good anyway,But it still runs O.K. It peeks out  at 7500rpm on a 12x6, tickover around 1700.
  7. Needle was opened 3/4 of a turn from "closed" position.Against 1 3/4 when on glow.
  8. Needle setting wasn't much of a problem I thought it would have been ,{reading some of the Posts,on conversions}. But I opened it up to about 3/4 of a turn and it was ok. But when I put the cowl on the model, the engine started Hunting, I tried different settings but it didn,t stop it, then I realised the propwash was building pressure up inside the cowl thus altering the  fuel mixture, so I put one of the vent pipes from the tank inside the cowl near the carb intake, and lo and beholed, it worked! We live and learn!!
  9. The prop I used is a 12 x6 not  13 as I said. I think 20 to 1 oil content is about right for  non-raced bearings dont you think?  there's just a trace of burnt oil from exhaust. I didn't check revs on glow I think it would be higher, but theres bags of power {pull} for the model, its an 80" Aeronca Sedan light constructiun about . 6 lbs, when I flew it on glow It would fly easy on 1/4 throttle just cruising round.  I carn't wait to get my Cub with the twin Saito flying, that runs sweet on petrol, I want to try my hand at glider tugging, should be fun!..{ or hairaising}!!!.
  10. Done a rev; test on  A.S.P. 52, on 20% pet/mix, driving a 13x6 prop, High, 7500 rpm, low,1800 rpm.
  11. 79 years young, firstmodel 72nd scale  gladiator at 8years, when you couldn't get balsa wood!, First rubber powered K.K.Ajax, Frog Interceptor. Puss Moth from .plan, First power model, B.M.P. powered Norsman,Model {Airplane News,plan.1944}. Home built r/c{ R.C.M.E. circuit plan}  Mostly scale, with slope and thermal thrown in. Lost count of numbers built!.Happy Day's. Gerry.
  12. The H.T. lead supplied with the cdi unit fits on to the plug like a bayonet cap, press and twist and locks on to plug, You can get them fhem from J.E.N. to fit on to your own H.T. lead I think there abou £8.50. I dont know if it would fit on other type of plugs. If you go to their w/site you'll get all the inf:

  14. James 40, glo thread spark plugs are £6.53 plus p/p, from Just Engines, I'm using them. Gerry.Edited By Gerry Stansfield on 28/02/2010 19:45:17
  15. Hi Steve, Oil mix is 20/1. havn't done any rpm check's yet, sounds about the same as running on glow, throttle responce is quick, The A,S,P. has run at 1/4 of an hour intervals for at least 2 hours with bursts of full power, tickover is a lot slower than when it was on glow, no hotter than normal, I have it mounted in my Aeronca sedan and haven.t fitted the cowl on yet, so i'll have to watch for overheating! I'll do some rpm checks and let you know.
