  1. Well, I didn't do anything, and it's now correct...........ODD, or did someone tweak it???
  2. Yup, No first post visible here either, starts as Ollp P, 04/08/2009 14:50:39
  3. Thanks, but the grading system has freaked again on the 52, have a look! David, I didn't ask for control, just advice to be posted. At minimum I'd suggest when anyone clicks the Reviews tab they get info on how to get a review started and what things to bear in mind.
  4. Hi! Could somebody from DER MANAGEMeNT  please have another look at the website Reviews system. Click on "Reviews" and I can find nothing to indicate how to add a review if the product is not already there, nor the process to follow to get the product added.  I did this a while back by asking as a one off and the product  was speedily added.   Appreciate you need control and to maybe get pics, etc, but it does seem a bit of a hidden process still, or have I missed it???  For example, I'd like to add engine reviews of the SC92 and SC 52 Two Strokes, but nothing tells me how to that I can find in the path you would follow to do the task.  Also, there are more than a few reviews of planes being posted where the plane has not even been flown...............sadly it seems the enthusiasm to say how great the product is does not require it actually being put to purpose first !!!! Could this please be flagged in text on their way to a review to try to calm people's enthusiasm until they can ACTUALLY say what it is like??
  5. Man or Mouse?.....tell her straight................ PS, keep some eye patches handy.
  6. Hi R W....... You have not said what you have, nor what sort of flying you want to do.  Nor what batteries you already have to save money on different ones.  I regularly fly my Flying Wings "Buzz Lightning" in above 20mph winds, and have flown it power and from the slope with the prop taken off in near 30 mph base wind.  I use 1800mAh 3S.  My Flying Wings "Raven" is also sloped and flown power above 15mph base wind, with only a 1000mAh 3S and no ballast.  Both shrug off gusts. I have and love my Formosa dearly but would not recommend it for significantly above 10 mph.
  7. Yes, it was the only way I was going to get back home again..................
  8. Sorry, I'm not happy here......the review summary etc still today looks like I have given the plane zero stars.  NOW, I moan and bitch with the best about bad service and bad performance, and the minute I post something reasonable about something, "Mr Fate" decides he'll cock it up for me................  If it cannot be corrected can it please be deleted out..............I'd rather be gone than wrong.................
  9. Just completed a review of the Hanger Nine Tango.............the overall rating came out as NO stars, but the lowest individual rating I gave it was "great"........... Que??
  10. OK, as promised, here's the repair story. Checked with HH, and they stated Windscreen and wing in stock. Passed codes to LMS on 10/7 to get Windscreen for me (HH won't sell direct).  They want £60 for a wing??  No Way, I only paid £80 for the whole plane!!!.  Still waiting for screen to arrive 23/7.  Repaired the wing, opening it up didn't reveal much more damage than the first glance showed.  The wing panel was split slightly around the rear wing bolts, since this soft balsa not reinforced, added ply plate over.  Spar was split, damaged part refitted and glued, then glued a second spar behind it. Couple of the front sections of the lightweight ribs were a bit crushed, but all refitted with bracing for additional strength.  In fact, other than skinning, pretty much all the old broken bits went back in!!  One two inch length of LE and two sections of skin were replaced with new.  I'd stripped back the under wing film, which I simply re-used and re-ironed.  The upper film on the damaged side has been replaced with Solarfilm 2000 for strength, then colour trim strips replaced.  Repairing the couple of splits in the Fus cross members took an hour or so, the wing repair took most of a day.  Pulled a few minor wrinkles out of the film while I was at it.  It flew this morning, just as well as before.  Experimenting with Spoilerons and Idle Down I managed to be lined up to fall short of patch once, but now the rough has no fears to THIS baby's undercarriage...............could well have lifted it the required amount, decided to fly through, the plane just ignored the insult!!!  I'm even picking it up by one leg and carrying it like that.  Flew six tanks through it - getting increasingly violent with the sticks. Closely inspected after each flight............nothing moved or loosened.  I'm so impressed with the build quality for such a light weight airframe I'm ordering either the Twist 40 (the same wing but low mounted) or the Pulse XT 40, probably the former as it's another no cowl right way up engine so easy to operate as a rough field short strip hack.  Would make an ideal winter long grass hack, the Tango!!!!
  11. You don't have to go the laccy band route, leave a central section of the canopy holder and hollow out under it for gear, then the canopy will clip on as before....a very small piece of velcro at the tail end holds it all secure if needed. LOL regarding use in light winds as a glider.................you wish...................!!!! I currently have five, two powered inc one with a FIK 60 wing, and a glider "std" and one with extended wings, using two sets.  One of my power ones is a fairly convincing "pylon racer" with an EMax CF2805 and using 500mAh 2S........would make a really good ultra low cost "fun" club pylon racer class, and can cope with wind that would make a lot of power modellers stay on the ground.  Possible Race Spec:- Standard shape MPX Fox, mods for engine mount, Aileron and Elevator only.  EMax 2805 Motor 7x3.5 GWS Speed prop  500mAh 2S cell  Rest Free...............................  ???
  12. I have not built a german or japanese origin flying model, and I have been modelling since the early 70's. I would not wish to impose my feelings on others, and where they draw the line is entirely up to them, but I would not feel comfortable in so doing, and frankly there are so many good and unusual (and unmodelled or rarely modelled) UK/US origin planes that I don't feel any need to anyway.
  13. Posted by John Norman on 21/07/2009 14:17:05:             after I was told to select model changes by clicking the left end of the selection bar !! --   I tried to point out in pre-beta that the model choice method would cause confusion.
  14. A "Classic" if ever there was one, this bird flies way above it's price point and humble foam construction might suggest. It looks and feels bigger in the air than it's dimensions, too. Fully Aerobatic but smooth with it!  I have a grunty low kV Komodo motor and 9x6 prop, 3 cell 1800mAh...............offers unlimited everything.
  15.   Posted by David Ashby - RCME moderator on 08/07/2009 18:54:22: Try harder next time Dave   That should have been a write off.   Indeed it should!!!  BTW, I have to go back to 1976 to the previous plane that I crashed when fit (rather than stuffed when broken anyway or being extremely experimental, and that's only a couple), so clearly I don't try hard enough!!!!!    (Note to self: Leave brain behind when going flying...Second Note to self: Try to remember where you left the ruddy thing!!))   And in case anyone STILL thinks the U/C got off lightly, I removed it this morning while effecting repairs to find the front two of the three metal allen headed set screws holding the aluminium U/C legs to the Fus ply plate were BENT.....yet there was STILL no damage at all to the ply plate or it's security into the Fus structure.  I'd not reinforced it at all from std when first built, I'd inspected it for glue, and had added a little CA to the joins as insurance, not because the build looked suspect.   SO, here is one ARTF that on a sample of now two is both light, agile, strong and "interesting" to fly.    I have read elsewhere a comment that the rudder causes severe roll.  Well, in fast forward flight that's right, it does...but it ain't no pattern ship, is it!!!  It also makes straight line knife edging a doddle!   The next part of this thread from me will report the repair and the purchase of spares.   Horizon Hobby list windscreen and a wing set amongst spares list (though I will patch the wing anyway to prove I can), Emailed yesterday 16:15 for availability and price..............HH, your support arm is on public trial..................
  16. After the first tentative foray into EP two years ago, have only bought cheapest possible, mostly from GC. Have LOTS....................and lots.  100mph plus wings down to indoor slowfly.   Other than the Black Magic brand, which I have had nothing but trouble from, and early on one GWS one which blew up and caught fire (the sleeving is not fire proof), when on test at 7A (15A unit) all mine have been excellent.   I don't run any of them near their limit
  17. OK, so today I totally blew it.        Was running much further out than usual to simulate what my new BIG petrol plane will need in terms of landing space, using the Tango as a Guinea Pig, and totally misread the distance to a large Oak Tree on the final turn into wind just as a gust caught it, dropping it behind the tree rather than just in front.  My fault entirely.   The poor Tango hit a pretty solid part of the Oak while banked over, massive echoing thump which briefly stampeded the horses in the nearby field (towards the noise, maybe they were curious!!), followed by several more loud thumps as it fell down inside the tree canopy.   I walked over to find that it had fallen all the way to earth (80 foot plus) and was sitting right side up on it's gear, prop against the trunk.   Damage is:-   Fuselage _______   Broken Windscreen Broken Frame ply RHS only (wing support) Internally, two cross braces loosened off Slight crack to firewall join nearside upper   WING ____   Port Leading edge  broken cleanly in one place.  Internally one rib splintered, spar broken. Most pieces were inside the wing and can be re-glued and splinted, or used as patterns.   Port leading edge dented in another place.   Undercarriage loosened marginally on one screw.   Elevator link pin sheared.   Definitely repairable!!    Now considering the bad press most ARTF's get, the lightweight 3D nature of the plane, and the fact that it was on half throttle moving quite quickly, the impact(s) and height it fell from,  that low level of damage is a credit to Hanger 9's design.   And....................................... the undercarriage support STILL DIDN'T FAIL!!!!
  18. Just a footnote to say after a bit of engine trouble gave me several deadsticks part way through runs before I got on top of it (OK I'm slow!!!!), three of which were off patch "in the rough" landings or run through fast in one case, the undercart steadfastly refuses to "do an ARTF" and fall off.   It benefits from a little opposed rudder with the aileron if trying to fly it smoothly "like a plane", but then that's NOT what it's for. I have now upped the throws even more, the roll rate is getting close to my most extreme EP flying wing, yet snap rolls have not yet snapped it.   Knife edging is easy peasey.   I have had two very minor pieces of trim start to loosen in handling areas, quickly solved, which considering the fairly ornate striping is not too bad??  (I didn't fuel proof over it as I didn't expect the whole plane to last very long!!) .   One point you may not be aware of, it has a bolt on wing AND tail, so it you have storage or transportation space issues, consider one of these. It goes in my car in one piece!   I'm running an SC 52 2 Stroke now, having removed the problem engine. This seems to suit it in terms of power (vertical and prop hang no problem) and throttle response.
  19. The join issue is presumably with the rainbow version where there are by necessity more joins??    Edited By Dave Bran on 07/07/2009 19:41:51
  20. Hanger Nine "Tango"   Another seemingly pretty bullet proof product.   More but still minor film wrinkling on this than my Panic, which by comparison is remarkably "tight" after a fair bit of varying temperatures and handling.   The stickers have a few minor wrinkles, too.   In reality this plane is just a fit the engine and gear "build". All the other bits bolt/screw together, ic the wing and tail.   One swing link missing from kit.   The undercarriage is well designed and well integrated into the main structure....Like the Panic, if you have the undercart off, you really should stick with Airfix Kits.......................
  21. Avicraft (Perkins) Panic (White Livery)   Nothing adverse has happened. Design wise the rear tail skid does not give the elevator sufficient ground clearance on grass, but then it''s only on grass for the odd second or two (I have a 91 2 stroke in it!) The undercarriage is well designed and well integrated into the main structure....the whole kit is well thought out and the bits all fit.   What's more the film covering is well fitted and has stayed tight.   I "found" a concealed hole in our landing strip dug by an animal on one touchdown, and it cartwheeled and ground looped it....................NO damage AT ALL, slight bend to one u/c wire, straightened in seconds. 22. Err, Well..........       ............61, Engineer, retired at 52, but two days a week I run a RC School based Club, and I also look after 17 large commercial vehicles, the youngest  76 years old..   Taught to fly Control Line then flat field i.c. power RC in 1972, Display Team pilot by 1974/5, Fetes, Sandown, Kempton, etc.............drifted off to car racing (Champion) and boat racing in 1978/9 (3rd in National Comp), then stopped end 1981. (Then did windsurfing to RYA Race Coach level for the next 24 years!!!)   Came back to RC flight end 2006 with EP fixed wing and taught myself to fly Heli's................EP only until early this year. 37 EP planes inc Indoor ones, and 6 Heli's.   Like 'Em  fast and nervous.  Many of my EP planes are fast wings.   Only i.c. is a "Panic" with extreme throws and a 91, which after the wings seems very tame, but have just acquired an unbuilt H9 "Tango" which will have a 53 and as much surface throws as the hinges will allow. Might have a short life!!   Have only started slope soaring 14 months ago but love it.  11 Gliders, 3 powered gliders.   Fly a minimum of four days a week, sometimes manage all 7!!!    Do development work for a UK manufacturer (unpaid) and am pre-beta testing next "Phoenix" Simulator version.   Pretty idle really........................

    Moving on to IC

Jon,   I feel the critical thing to giving advice here is that WE don't know how well you fly what you have, neither do we know what you have done with regard handling engines (of any type).   If you are confident with what you have, can do all the moves it's capable of, can land it confidently "deadstick" on the glide from various orientations and heights relative to the strip and make a fair job of it, transferring to IC power will be much easier than otherwise.   Also, don't rush to place that engine in the plane you choose,  get a cheap workmate or similar (I recently got a good one for £12!!), stake it down outside somewhere the neighbours won't complain about the noise and bolt it to that, then bench run it quite a bit to run it in AND to get the basics of starting and handling it out of the way in a better place than on the front of a fragile plane at near ground level.   Good Luck, and YES, Do it !!!!!
  24. Presumably you have or will be contacting JP?   I know one other person who bought one, when they first came out, and was very pleased with it, having no issues at all. It certainly seemed to fly very well.
  25. Re:  "I don't want to have to change the motor once it's in"     Go Electric then.....................................
