    A Cert???

I have in front of me a copy of the BMFA handbook 2007 with the intention of genning up for the A cert. I am already stressed it is almost like genning up For the PPL exam. Free flying a Ripmax EP Spitfire at a remote flying location with Futaba 2.4 wondering how many people are free flyers? I have joined my local club, purchased a Boomerang 40 plus engine with the intent of training/ passing my A cert(when the rain stops). The thought of the flying test is very unpleasant, I just don't do exams getting the jitters just thinking about it. Oh well, just have to see what happens, waiting for a receiver from the states before I can fly the Boomer anyway. If you think my grammer/spelling is bad,I apologise and recognise my place as a lesser mortal:-) Kelvin
  6. How do I find out who own who owns land? The local field I fly from is not common land as I had assumed. Local folks seem a bit confused as to who owns what.I would like to find out who owns it for definite before I ask. Cheers
  7. The point is scale models are flown low and close so you can see the detail on aircraft including the so called toy pilot, mine winks at me on low passes-honest.
  8. A scaled down model of an aircraft which carrys a Pilot/aircrew and possibly passengers needs some sort of model Pilot etc to enhance the realism when the model is in the air.The same effort should be put in to create a pilot figure etc as applied to the rest of the model. What is the point of a scale flying model with an empty cockpit, flightdeck?? Why bother with a clear cockpit canopy or open cockpit on a non- scale at all if the intention is not to place a model pilot in it? It may look fine on the ground, but just looks so strange flying around empty. I think some may feel a pilot figure in a model turns it into a toy :-) Kelvin
  9. I do not have a on/off switch,my ESC is set up by having full throttle setting on connecting then after a set number of beeps (1-15 depending on how you need to set up for your motor/battery pack) you reduce to fully to low throttle then the ESC is armed and ready to go. I have my model raised up on a stand well clear of the floor it stays in the stand until I am happy with the set up then I handle it with care and keep well clear of the prop with the minimum time from the stand to flight. after landing I keep the throttle off with thumb on stick and disconnect the power before I move the model. I also have 2.4 Futaba eliminating the problem of somebody on the same frequency. Kelvin
  10. Hi Alan Thanks for the info, will have a look. Cheers kelvin
  11. Hi Great review I agree with you.The only thing bugging me is the lack of any receivers in my local model shops. Would be grateful for the web site address for the extra receivers. Cheers Kelvin
  12. Anyone know when the Bf 109 from Ripmax will be on sale in the shops. Kelvin

    C of G

Hi Tom If you have built from a kit the instructions should stipulate the correct C.G for your aeroplane. Regards Kelvin
  14. Eyup mukers As ah yorkshire man ah dunt give a monkeys abaht proper use oft Queens inglish. so long as ah get me plane up in't air and darn agen in one piece ah dun't care. RCM&E is a reht good reed wih grate photos. Si thi Kelvin :-)
  15. I was wondering if it would need MG servos after lots of items flew about the living room in the blast from the prop. The elevator seems a bit flimsy thinking of beefing it up in the middle. Lots of time before the good weather returns
  16. Hi Set the ESC to 8 beeps = low voltage cut off when falls to 55% of starting run voltage, and it works tested to full power on several short test runs, seems to have cured it.Have to see how many minutes flying time I get with this setting. Cheers Kelvin
  17. Hi Scott Thanks for the advice.Launching is the time you miss some help when you fly on your own,the reason I decided to fit a brushless was the lack of power during a nil wind launch its very difficult to give it enough speed and it takes time to get your hand back on the stick(failed to launch both attempts at nil wind launch)plus I am a bit rusty after 30 plus years since I last flew R/C models,my excuse. I have foud a few sites dedicated to electric flight,If anyone could recommend books/websites on the subject I would be grateful. I am considering joining my local club to do my A certificate although I need something with wheels, may buy another spity and fit a set of wheels,is it possible to fit retracts,I am upgrading to 6 channel in the near future(more account bashing). Thanks Scott and everyone else, this is a good forum. Cheers Kelvin
  18. Hi everyone Thanks for all the info to date, just had another look at the ESC info it is 40A and it can be programmed for different voltages using a system of beeps, to cut off when voltage drops below a specific value also lots of other things I do not understand, eg:- positive and negative turn of the motor/setup of PWM mode etc etc up to a max of 16 beeps??? I will have a go at setting it up using the beeps from what I understand of the motor prop size it should work but I probably don't undertand that either:-)? If that does not cure the problem I will try smaller prop.It is looking like the old current account(pardon the pun) may get another bashing for a couple of lipos and a charger. Many thanks Kelvin
  19. Hello I have gone brushless with my Ripmax lecky Spit. Not wanting to fork out for a lipo battery and charger I was told I could still use my 9.6v Ni-cad batterys. well I charged the battery as normal followed the switch on instuctions with the esc, lots of beeps. throttled up and at 3/4 throttle the motor cut out? pulled the throttle back then added power same thing. Motor specs are Thunder Tiger Ripper 36 series Over-tech P series Bec Controller. Would It be better to invest in lipos. Very new to electric flight would value any advice to resolve this problem. Thankyou all Kelvin
  20. Cheers Myron, Purchased a new bit of wire and a new receiver. I will use the new receiver and keep my old one as a spare when fixed. I remember a long time ago reading in a mag a guy soldering his aerial back together and having no range problems. A new bit looks better although out of intrest I will solder the old one first and check the range. Thankyou for the info Kelvin
  21. Hi Phil Thanks for the info will replace in the near future. Cheers Kelvin
  22. Hi all Help I have broke about a 12" off my receiver aerial. Will it reduce the range if I solder the bit back on? Regards Kelvin
  23. Ripmax leky Spitfire and now a PicooZ freebee from RCM&E.
  24. Hi Yep Veron Fokker D8 balsa and tissue build. Flew my Ripmax lecky Spifire a few weeks ago after a bit of a break from RC modelling (25-30yrs) Also working on becoming airborne again with my paramotor(some sort of midlife crisis according to my wife) Regards Kelvin
