  2. Posted by Ikura on 25/02/2019 11:34:43: I think the issue here is 'buying cheap' and let's face it, a large percentage of this country now buys the cheapest of everything they can find. Thankfully there are still those of us who use UK based companies, whether buying on-line or in person. I find it incredibly sad that so much is now bought from China on price when we have great model retailers here in this country and unless we use them we will definitely loose them. No one would argue that buying on-line is very convenient but it's where we buy from that should be the major concern. Just see how you cope when YOU are pensioner. I have to buy to suit my income, not to keep some shopkeeper alive.
  3. It's inpractical. To go any distance you need to use FAST chargers, not some overnight plugin
  4. "the op is new" - how about been an aero modeller since 1959? How about my case where the best modelshop is 95 miles each way, in Leeds. I drive an electric car with a range of around 80 which is fine for round town, but means a major planning exercise with constant diversions and stopping all over the place to find a charger because they are not situated exactly 80 miles from my home, maybe 35 then the next is 65, and then you get to one and it is busy, or worse out of action. So I buy to suit MYSELF not interested in the model shops. Edited By Mosquitoman on 25/02/2019 12:55:39
  5. I saved 34% on the Tx/Rx. I still use the model shops but these days it's better to use ebay for most things Edited By Mosquitoman on 25/02/2019 09:44:08
  6. I had read with great interest RCM&E December2018 test of the Radiolink AT10. I noticed also that there were 2 other versions the T8FB and AT9S. In the article it was saying what a great price they are, particularly that the R9DS receiver is “only” £21.99, which is a real “competitive price” – inferring it would get people running. Well I have been using a HiTec Aurora 9 for 4 years and it had a problem and I lost all my model memories in the repair. At this time I read the RCM&E Dec2018 radio test, and fancied a change. I have gone for the mid-range AT9S which comes with a R9DS receiver, and am very pleased with my purchase. It will do all I want, 9 channels seem 4 too many for my pretty large air fleet. But not from the suggested J.Perkins distribution chain at £139.99 (for AT9S Tx together with R9DS Rx). I bought mine from Banggood, which have a massive range of products, based in China (the source of the radio). They have supplied me with masses of diverse stuff previously, not just connected to RC flight. Digital watch, Camera, Mobile Phone, to mention just a few They now have a UK warehouse, and it didn’t seem to matter that these appeared to be shown as coming from China, there was zero postage to pay. My payment was made on 11 Feb - the package arrived on 15 Feb, just 4 days with Hermes! despatched from Heathrow, and cost me exactly £92.62 for the Tx and Rx, plus £2 for insurance. There were no duties to pay, and remember no postage either. The best is yet to come. I have today (24 Feb) placed a second order for the R9DS receiver, not at the aforementioned competitive price of £21.99, but £12.50, well it seems to be even less, £12.31 on my invoice. Now THAT is what I call a competitive price! I have paid for 5, total £61.55, Insurance £1.23, Postage £1.01 (didn’t reach their free postage value obviously, as before). So £63.79 for FIVE receivers. This ought to be the way for all readers to save money. Edited By Mosquitoman on 25/02/2019 09:30:11
  7. Panic, got to be, mine had a SuperTigre 75 with tuned pipe and that thing would just go vertical out of my hand
  8. Can never understand all this about which props, for gods sake just get handful and try them all one at a time, I have a balance designed to weigh a suitcase which has a hook at each end I connect one hook to the rear of the plane, (on the ground) and the other end hook goes to a stake driven well into the grass, it shows the exact pulling power and cost me £6 with no silly posts to write/read
  9. My ailerons and flaps came prefitted wrong way round, made for some interesting movements when I waggled the sticks..... All the servo horns were prefitted in wrong positions. The battery hatch knob snapped off first time I used it, had to cut it open and glue ion a new one from my overflowing box from years back (when I cannot find something I KNOW I bought so I buy it again, And again, then another time they all turn up at once.....) The elevator connecting steel wire is obviously bent badly so the two rods into the elevator are not parallel, I have about 2-3mm down elevator on one side; I have added a tab sticking back on to the low side to see if it adjusts, Have to watch it coming towards me and make a careful look at a loop to see ift it screws.. The clevises for rudder and elevator were far too long, the rudder one had to screw in so far the entire thread came through it, tossed it in the bin. Had to replace with more normally available types, trouble then was the holes in the elevator and rudder horns are ENORMOUS so everything too sloppy, had to work out a second solution using through bolts. I noticed on assembly that the rear fuselage is VERY flimsy around the area forward of the tail. I am going to write up separately what happened to that.
  10. Hope this hasn't already been covered, and my comment is about the Riot XL. My FIRST landing the plane got a wind sideswipe as it touched down, the left wing tip hit the ground the prop also. I don't think the tail was struck but fuselage came apart in front of the tailplane, breaking completely underneath and above on the right side, the lower centre join between the fus halves just wasn't there - no evidence it had ever been glued in the build. The fus had seemed very flimsy at this point, I had already noticed before I flew it. Took an hour and half to glue it all together and I drilled through the side foam panels from the back end forwards above and below tail with a 12"x 3mm drill to glue in some similar length carbon rods through the break area which meant they finished 6 inches ahead of the tailplane. The engine mount also cracked on the left side, had to take it all apart and glue back with Gorilla. This was such a soft tip-over shows some structural improvements could be in order. And when I tried to remove the battery the latch snapped off, so had to cut it all away to replace. The flight was impressive BTW, great climb out and very stable in an estimated 20mph wind.
