I’m fairly sure that I read somewhere that this individual (about whom I know zilch else) has elected to become a “they/them”.   Does that mean that the op has misgendered them?   If so will the op have to be cancelled, along with every other forumite who quoted it, thought about laughing or actually laughed out loud?   Doesn’t the latter constitute hate crime, which ought to be reported by the moderators to the thought police for investigation?   Given that the forum was the medium for this appalling gender-critical episode, can we expect it to be shut down forthwith?

    Just asking.

Yes it occurred to me after my OP that rather than saying ‘what DOES he look like’, I should have said ‘what DO they look like’. However, given the demographic of this forum I suspected this may lead (from those who know even less about this individual than BC and me) to questions regarding my use of English!

I hand launch no problem....no torque rolls or anything,I've had a few pushycats (5)with different motors in...and never had that prob..

    Ken Anderson...ne...1...PC dept.

Interesting. Maybe mine rolls because of my high revving prop. Not sure which is most likely to generate more torque roll; a smaller high revving one, or a larger slower revving one. With the Mega 16/15/4 and little 6x4EP, mine’s a real screamer.

  3. There’s a brief discussion of Temu on Page 7 of the ‘HobbyKing coming back to the UK’ thread on this very forum. Not recommended it seems.

  4. My Pushycat has been clocked at 82mph using a Speedflea GPS maximum speed logger.

One thing I would point out, is the torque roll effect that mine suffers on launch. I have to launch with my left hand while applying full left aileron with my right, otherwise the model is prone to rolling hard right and crashing before it can get enough flying speed for the flight controls to have much effect. I have established this as a result of flying it regularly (and crashing on launch several times!) since 2005.

This is with a 6x4 prop. KA, do you not find this effect even more pronounced with a 9 inch prop?

Lovely looking model. C57. No need to weigh model as I have this info now. Can you give more details of your motor such as kv and wattage if possible.  Thank you.

The motor details are all in the link FB3. Just click on the underlined ‘Megamotor 16/15/4’ text in my earlier post 🙂.

The supplier I refered to suggests that if a servo is going to fail, its usually in its early life. It is suggested that the servo be cycled for a time before use.

    Bas

I had a transmitter RF module failure with my Spektrum DX8 Tx 10 years ago when it was only a few weeks old (and under warranty).

It was extremely lucky that I was using it with my DJI drone with return to home failsafe on it at the time. Having done range checks previously, I took off and flew away a few yards when the drone climbed to around 60ft, hovered and then flew back and landed at the take off point, all without any input from me. Subsequent investigations showed that the RF output from the Tx had gone extremely low power. Had I been flying anything else (i.e. one of my fixed wing planes) at the time, it would have crashed and I wouldn’t have known why. The RF module was confirmed faulty by Horizon and replaced under warranty.

It just goes to show that the safety of our aircraft is dependent on every component in the chain working properly all the time.

  7. This is my servo tester. It is quite old, and a current Google search for servo testers doesn’t find any pictures of it.

It works OK most of the time, however I have found that with some servos if the battery is a bit low the servo will go wild. So it might be worth checking the battery or power supply you’re using is up to scratch.

Last year got a wood screw in a front tyre, too near the edge, the fitter said for a plug so bought another tyre, an all season as usual….

It’s sometimes worth getting a second opinion on whether a tyre can be repaired. I had a screw in a tyre fairly near to the side of the tread a few years ago. I took the car to a local tyre dealer, where the chap said “Ooh no mate, too near the side wall. We’ll order you a new tyre, that’ll be £130 please.”.

However I did some research, and it seems British Standard BS AU159 specifies how near to the edge you can go, and a chart is available to download and print.

Armed with this chart in case I needed it, I went to another tyre place I know, where the chap looked at the tyre and said “Yes mate, we can repair that, that’ll be £15 please.”.  £115 saved, and I drove around on the tyre for several years afterwards with no problem.

  9. Just my opinion, but there’s nothing more boring than watching video of a model (even one of my own models) just going around and around doing circuits. Half the time, due to the wide angle of the lenses used or autofocus hunting, when played back they just look like a little out of focus dot going around the sky.

  10. I have printed a couple of Planeprint’s models with ColorFabb LW-PLA. After the first one broke apart spectacularly in an area of high stress, I’ve learned that you need to reinforce any potential high stress areas with longitudinal strips (5mm x 1mm) of carbon fibre.

I’ve not had any problems printing LW-PLA with my Ender 3 V2, as long as you follow Planeprint’s instructions to set up the correct profiles in Cura.

Think that they are both serious incidents and the fines ought to have been larger in both cases. There was clearly an increased risk of injury in the Brighton video, exacerbated by the fact that Fatboy Slim would have been completely unaware of the drone approaching and unlikely to be able to take evasive action himself. If he had heard an irritating high pitched whine approaching he might have just thought that it was his missus joining him on stage.;)

Doubt he’d have heard it coming due to the racket he was making himself at the time 🔊🔊 🎶🎵🙉.

Mornin all, I was a bit quiet on the forum yesterday as I had to go to my uncles funeral, he was a railway enthusiast and his last wish was to be cremated in the furnace of a steam engine, he finally got his wish...........If he were here he would have been chuffed to bits

That actually happened to my grandmother’s dog. In the early 1960s we lived in a house with a railway cutting at the end of our garden. One Christmas, my grandmother came to stay with us, complete with her dog Laddie who was nearly blind. On Boxing Day morning the dog disappeared, and my father thought to himself ‘I bet that old dog has gone through the fence and blundered over the edge of the cutting’. So he went to investigate, and sure enough, found the dog dead and frozen stiff at the bottom of the 60 foot cliff.

Having returned home to pick up his wheelbarrow, he proceeded to wheel the deceased dog back along the side of the track (while wondering what he was going to tell my grandmother), when he came across a railway fireman stoking up a shunting engine, getting it ready to go. “What you got there?”, calls down the stoker. “My mother-in-law’s dog.”, says my dad. “Want him cremated?”, says the stoker. So poor old Laddie went in the fire, and with a puff of white smoke he was gone! I seem to remember my father saying that rather than tell my grandmother what really happened, he just said he couldn’t find the poor old dog.

Perhaps it would be useful if the moderators could post an exhaustive list of unacceptable words............

    Oh, hold on

    😉

Ofcom have already done it in their ‘Offensive Language Quick Reference Guide’. I won’t link it directly here, ‘cos we’re not supposed to.

    Makes interesting reading though 😱🤐🤫!
