  1. I recently built a Vintage Model Company model. I found their website was full of information on models how to build, convert, cover and fly them. With links to numerous tutorials and videos on YouTube. The videos were the main reason I went for their models. The videos provided: Confidence that their models were not difficult Helped with the lack of time issue. I could see how long each step was going to take and plan accordingly Decreased the learning curve. I had already seen someone actually do that step and knew the best way to approach it. Instead of trial and error of working it out myself. Though my model is not perfect I am very happy with it and it was fairly painless. I have read build logs on the kits I am interested in but I think having a video of some one building it would be great. It would not have to be every step but some of the key parts. I am assuming that the kit manufacturers do test builds and build beta releases. The key steps part of these could be filmed. The videos do not have to be perfect polished presentations. web-cams are cheap and simple video editing software is available for free or at low cost enabling us new modellers to short cut some of the trial and error learning that the previous generation gained before ARTF and foam were the main route to your first and second plane.
  2. As a new active member of the forum i thought I might add my thoughts. I am one of the younger members of my club at a spritely 45, I think that could be one of the issues that limited younger people are joining the ranks at the bottom. Us younger members 😊 have 2 real issues time and space. House prices, Space to build and keep models is very limited. Limited time, with myself and my wife working and 2 children time is limited, also the share of jobs around the house has equalised somewhat (my wife will disagree with this) again limiting free time. With the internet research can be completed very quickly and easily as well as searching for information.
  3. I ordered a permagrit sanding block from Pegasus models which was out of stock. They rang me to say the price had gone up from the manufacture but could we split the difference. In these hard times I offered to pay the full today's price. He wouldn't have it and insisted on splitting the difference. They have definitely won a new customer. Really friendly and apologetic. The way he handled it was exactly right. Even if he had phoned to say he could not so anything on price his tone and friendliness came across. You don't see good customer service from the big faceless Hobbykings so nice when you get it. I Know where I will be going next time I need some bits Keep up the good work Jinny
  4. HI all, I found this link while looking for P51's. Lists pretty much every variation of P51 I have seen... https://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?1112761-P-51-Mustang-Squadron-Markings-Reference-Thread P51 markings and colours Might be useful when thinking about what colour you want to paint and if you want a B or D.... Have fun Jon
  5. Hi, I have just found this and it's so very useful. One improvement if your doing some dev might be able to do more specific searches. If I search for p51 or FMS p51 I get really relevant returns. If I search of swann morton no.2. I get everything with a 2 in it Not sure how this could be fixed but it would be good if you could use "swann morten" e.g. include both words together etc. Thanks Jon
  6. HI, Thanks for all your help and advise. I have been reading the Spitfire builds with great interest. I am not sure if they fill me with confidence or make me more scared of what I have got myself into.... Hopefully someone else will post lots of pictures and do a P51 step by step build or Richard might get a few stupid questions from the build newbie.. So other than the tools any idea of the parts we will need to complete the build, trying to get a shopping list of stuff drawn up so I can spread the cost (hide it from the wife). thanks Jon
  7. HI all, very excited about this plane arriving. Just getting some bits together to be able to start this build when it arrives. I have a couple of questions. What tools other than the usual (craft knife, sandpaper / permagrit, razor saw) Should I look to invest in to make my life easier? What size build board will I need my current one is for building small VMC rubber powered models. Thanks Jo
  8. Hi, I have been looking at your kits for a while now but I have a couple of questions. How easy are they to build for a novice builder? Can the wings be removed for easy transport Will we have to pre-order Thanks Jonny
