  1. OK got bored and took a look, Paul was right is impacting on the skin, given it a sand and its much better will do a bit more tomorrow to get a final fit. Some skin has been sacrificed to get a good fit but should be able to repair it quite easily. Then the fun of sorting out the flap servos and then covering the wing will be done.......
  2. I did trim it just not enough I think. Will have a fettle at the weekend. thanks for all your help guys
  3. Ron, I am not 100% sure. I think it might be the prongs impacting on the skin. Now I have confirmed its wrong I can take a better look, the prongs are not hitting the walls.
  4. Going to join the wings together. Does this gap look OK? Also what's the best glue to join them? Thx for your help Jon
  5. Trevor, Thanks for that prompt response. That is what I was thinking that Paul had meant but thanks for helping out. Good luck with the maiden. Jon
  6. All been pushing on with the build in the few spare hours I have. I have got the motor mount sorted thanks Richard for the cross mount. Also cut and drilled the spinner. Now the question is how do I assemble it. I have re-read Paul's post on the subject but not sure I am any further forward. This is what I have so far. Any help would be great. thx
  7. Do you get kicked out of the Warbirds Replica club if you do a pink or civi warbird.... just asking for a friend ?
  8. Andy,Graham, Thanks for your help, I do have the long one but I find it a bit awkward to use, but I will give it another try. Good idea on marking the centre line I tried this on the elevators and it did help. Any advise on the items below. What is the best location for the rudder and elevator servos is it Paul's revised location? What is the best way to cut the canopy so it fits nicely round the curved surface Anybody know where I can get a cross mount for the fms motors, I have asked Richard but failing that any good ideas thank you all again. Jon
  9. Graham, I have the permanent grit sanding block. Mostly use the less course side. It's just getting for instance a consistent shape both sides of the leading edges of wing tail etc. Thanks Jon
  10. OK trying to crack on. With the build. Made a long list of jobs with page numbers of pics on the forums... aiming for Christmas... just got the elevator wire fitted and sanded to shape. Will post a pic tomorrow for those up for a bit of a laugh. Anyway the job list has generated a list of things I am unsure about. And beg for your collective wisdom. I am assuming I should pin the elevator and rudder like I did the flaps etc. What is the best location for the rudder and elevator servos is it Paul's revised location? What is the best way to cut the canopy so it fits nicely round the curved surface Anybody know where I can get a cross mount for the fms motors, I have asked Richard but failing that any good ideas Help with sanding, I am not very good nothing is even or the same shape any advise? OK now I will breath and wait the collective knowledge ???
  11. Eric, Sorry I was on a work call and trying to multitask between work and non-work. Clearly failed at both. ?
  12. Ron its pinned on my wall above my build. I did build the wing over the plan as suggested by Richard. Thanks to Paul's clarification I will bend the wire not the wheel. but not bent tail wheels before so unsure of what shape should I make. Looking at some of the pictures I could probably make a guess. but any help would be great. Thanks Jon
  13. Paul, Ron, Life savers as always. It looks so easy when I see all the work on here, still loving it but each step creates more questions. Like when bending the tail wheel is there a pattern looked on the plan cannot see one. I will definitely be doing a fixed tail wheel. Thx Jon
  14. Thanks Paul, every time I think I have my head around this build and have read and re-read your posts I find another thing I go what the heck does that mean. I have a few more general questions which have been perplexing me that people a bit more advanced can help with: Looking at the 4S 4000mah batteries what C number are the people who have them in the air already recommending. My thoughts are between: Turnigy nano-tech 4000mAh 4S 45~90C Lipo Pack Turnigy Nano-Tech 4000mAh 4S 30C Lipo Pack Would it make sense to sort out the tail wheel before I sheet the top deck - is access an issue or can I wait to do that when I do the bottom? Same for the snakes I am thinking it would be easier to do before sheeting What method do people use to fit the wire for the elevator do I need to drill some holes and file a grove or will it push in ? When do you attach the servo horns, do you wait till you have covered it or attach them then cover or attach, then remove for covering. Thanks for all your help I am trying to plan my next steps
  15. Paul, Not sure where the 5mm goes to and from can you elaborate looked at the plans and cannot seem to see it. Thanks Jon
  16. Andy, Thanks for the help. They are not stuck on yet just held with tape to see how everything aligns. I think I will attach the cockpit former then the half sheets and cut / sand to fit as you recommended. Thanks for the help Jon
  17. Hi, Another question about the best way to do things. I am wondering the best way to sheet the front of the cockpit and attach the dashboard rib. I have wet and shaped the two half's of sheet and I am going to join them using the method shared by Andy. But still unsure how to get that Nice curve around the dash and do you attach the dash rib first. Thanks for all your help
  18. Paul what glue did you use on the magnets I am thinking super glue?
  19. Andy, thanks for that, yours is a simple but elegant solution. I will give it a go this week when I get some more clamps delivered and get the side skins on. Jon
  20. I have been working my way through the fuselage and I have a general question. When I am skinning the curved deck how do people ensure the two sheets fit I.e. same length and will join nicely. Mine don't but together we'll and one is usually the wrong size needs a mm or 2 off then is wonky. Any basic wood work advise welcome.
  21. But I lined them up and they match almost to the mm so, thanks to Richard even an Idiot like me cannot mess it up. ?
  22. Hi, typical I just read your post Gordon after I glued the profiles together last night. I am waiting on a clamp delivery (always need more clamps) before I start gluing it all together.
  23. Eric, again thanks. I keep forgetting to use that as a reference. Couple of quick ones. With the side skins what is the advantage of joining them all together as Paul did or doing it as Richard did in the instructions and leave the tail bit until later. Also from what I can see some B's have a rounded back some a square. What's the thoughts of the B builders on what shape and how to achieve it. Thanks Jon
