  1. Geoff, any news on the maiden? i'll have mine up in two weeks! Doug
  2. Although I am by no means an expert, last fillets I did - the fillets were laid first, started at the edge and worked my way up into the curve; I used a strip quite bigger than what the area was to handle shrinkage and giving an edge to grip and stretch. Then cut the edge on the fuselage where I wanted the seam. Doug
  3. Hey Geoff, Just reread your first post on the Harvard dated 23/09/2018 21:27:16 You made it...just a couple weeks over one year...so it was faster!
  4. Hey Geoff, If the weather is like ours, in a few weeks the wind will subside but the temp will be zero degrees celsius. But still flyable. My colour scheme is quite simple, the plane is being modelled after a plane my father in law and I hired for a formation flight. (two Harvards). We did a 1/2 cuban and a triple roll. Awesome day. So I have the graphics ready, I will paint the fuselage but use solartex fabric on the rudder and elevators so it looks like the real thing with fabric and sewing. This is an image of the plane after a complete rebuild over the last year.
  5. Well done Geoff this is awesome. Can't wait to see your successful maiden. With the weather in UK, will you be able to get it up before winter or do you have to wait for next season? Doug
  6. Use a 6S a little heavier? The pilot needs to gain weight? How much will the prop increase the leverage of CoG? Doug
  7. Posted by Geoff Gardiner on 07/10/2019 11:57:07: Hi Doug. I have just emailed you those files. Sorry it took so long. No issues Geoff. I’m no where near ready to print them. But thanks I did receive them! Your build log is a good reference for me. It’s been invaluable to double check what I am doing.
  8. As a relative newbie I concur with the other posts, my two cents is - When I bought my first and only radio - it was six channel... I thought why would I possibly want more? Well now I want more, so go with 8 channels minimum if you will be inclined in any future direction of the hobby to want to build or get into more complicated models beyond throttle, ailerons, flaps, retracts, rudder, elevators - would be nice to have the extra channel for splitting the ailerons and retract doors etc... Doug
  9. Just think what the fumes are doing to your sinuses and internal parts. I have to wear a half face respirator to prevent my sinuses from congealing to a point I can't breath through my nose. Just a whiff will set them off. Its not an allergy it is the glue vapours literally setting my mucous membranes to semi-solid material. I use the stuff very sparingly. And I also have a fan blowing any fumes away from my face as the glue will also react in a minor way with my eyes as well. After an 'attack' three days later my breathing will be back to normal.
  10. I have a thread started on RCGROUPS Sorry... At the moment I am in a bit of a quandry. I really want to make a full length canopy hatch, from F2 to F5. A thin ply platform with the Top of F3 removed and added to the platform along with the longerons between F3 and F2. The platform would sit on the longerons between F3 and F5 (and I would extend this longeron to F2). The canopy would be attached to this platform. Magnets on the back to hold in position, two small dowels for the front at F2. Pilots, scale details to be added to the platform etc...yes this would add weight...I really just want improved battery access and cleaner hatch. So my concern - would cutting the top of F3 reduce any torsional or torque strength from the fuselage, or is F3 just for maintaining the shape? What do you think? I was keenly interested in the engine stl files, I can have them printed here - our local libraries have 3d printers. I might have to do one piece a night for a few nights but that's ok. Or I can buy pre-printed. I do have the vacuum piece from Tony, but your's is pretty sweet. Doug
  11. Geoff, please don't stop. I've bought the cnc kit just a few weeks ago, your build log and build is stupendous: its really helping this newbie out. Have you maidened it? If you were to do it again, what would you do different? Do you want to sell/give away your 3D parts? Love the radial! Thanks for creating this log. Doug
