  1. On the home page there are pictures that change... The picture of interest is the group of fliers showing the same model ? Would the model be the free plan Amelia ?
  2. Thanks again for the replies. The shadow servos will be checked visually, and with a servo checker I made, may have been an rcme article. I will try and post some pictures of the servo checker, an easy home made bit of kit.
  3. My Ian Silcocks SHADOW ( wot4 like ) 4 channel with Futaba challenger radio gear and Magnum gp40 engine is probably over 30 by now and has been in the loft for the past 20 years, apart from an occasional day out to run the engine and check over. It was in autumn 2019 that it was checked over last as I wanted to go model flying again, then covid kicked off. Anyways black wire corrosion was found in the tx battery to switch wire. This is odd because the stuff was stored with all batteries disconnected ? One wire corroded, then all wires suspect, so new radio gear needed. I have read somewhere that spectrum Rx can brown out with lots of servos and 4.8v battery. So, using a spectrum ar410rx at 6v, connected to Futaba fps148 servo, 4 servos, will the servos work and not be overpowered, over volted, at 6v ?
  4. Thanks for all the replies, that's that question answered. I will have to get a lap top as well for tx reprogramming. This is gunna get expensive. Spectrum kindly email two sets of info but my phone will not open the PDF files, but the lads phone does. I had a brief look at them last night but he is gunna print them off for me today. There are instructions for mode2 to mode1, a mechanical change and software change. Still pricing up stuff, Futaba 4 channel versus spectrum DXS system. The next Rx up from the dxs is a bit over my budget. Next thread will be servo comparability and working voltage.
  5. Am I correct in assuming that the spectrum dxs tx and ar410 Rx need "binding" each and every time they are turned on ? I understand a button has to be pressed "on" .on the Rx to do this but what if the Rx is bagged and protected against vibration buried deep in the fuselage ? Is there a switch available for easy binding mountable within an easy and hassle free position on the fuselage for this binding to be achieved ? Sounds like a real faff and hassle to me, but I am learning about this 2.4 radio gear.
  6. See what I mean, preductive text hah, how do you tame it off ?
  7. The more complex something is, the more likely it is to go wrong. Trying to fix complex stuff can be a nightmare these days, is it hardware or software and htf dies dies system work. A modern term, the waterfall effect, or was that just made up by a politician ? I will be in need of some modern radio gear, but they will suffer from black wire corrosion just as much. Me, low tech as much as possible. Low tech I can understand and fix. Hi tech, you need to know all about the system, and I mean ALL ABOUT the SYSTEM. Yeh cars have diagnostics, yeah right. The world is spherical.
  8. There usually is a "delete all "this members " posts, a single press of a button and the computer does all the work. A dangerous button so be real carefully. There can be many reasons people move, from unfair admin, double standards etc. to people just had enough. Me, I need this place to learn and ask advise, particularly about 2.4 radio. batteries ( that burst into flames ! ) and electric flight. I have been banned from a particular forum ( not model flying related ) twice, for daring to suggest free speech within reason, and stating "you've done that wrong, it's on backwards" All the other members said nothing, meaning either they did not see what I saw in the picture, or or not know ( most likely ), or just didn't care. They all said what a good job he was doing, but it's on backwards I said. No good deed goes unpunished.
  9. As with all woodwork really, be aware of the "grain".. If many ribs the same, the "pack method" and sanded to shape. I make 2 identical metal templates and sandwich "balsa rib blanks" and make the sandwich then sand. The section I remember had 20 or so identical ribs needing 20 6inch by 1 inch 1/16 blanks. Even the tapered wing tip sections where made with the sandwich method. I am now moving in to my new model room, and will try and post some pictures to show/help. A sharp new blade is often very useful but just be aware of the "red paint". Why are my fingers red ? I haven't been using red paint today???
  10. Must find out how to turn off the dam predictive pita text
  11. Dpd the lad says if the tracking says item delivered, then it's been delivered, even if it has not. No complaints procedure he says, that's it.
  12. Hermes service is patch of then but not good hear. Lad ordered 2 seperatly items from Amazon, both packages coming via Hermes, on the same van. One was delivered all ok, the second never turned up. Excuse was the e condition package, on the same van, to the same address was, wait for it, the second package address was Not Found! What ?? Anyways Amazon sent 2 new items out free of charge as well as a gift voucher! Keep it up Hermes, your service is great !
  13. Hi ED, the parts you very kindly sent me will do fine and extend my original gp40 working life. I now have some spares for this engine to keep it going, and when finally "run out" , a cylinder head etc. to play with for further petrol fuel experiments. The spare crank may find its way into a home brew engine...   The gudgeon pin pads are still "domed" and will be fitted on next strip down and clean...   Itching to get back RC flying...   If there is a seller's rating system on here I give you 100per cent.   Thanks again, much appreciated, stay safe out there...rich. 14. The lad has the tracking number and checked, not even been picked up according to his phone, explain that one. Had problems with Hermes before, wonder if it's the same driver...paid RM nearly £6 for a signed for delivery to South Wales from north wales which simply "disappeared"....read the name, I wiki'd that... Was thinking of ordering some other stuff from an electric fly site but that will come via Hermes, having a real rethink now... 15. My Hermes is the best carrier out there, NOT ! I will never never ever use My Hermes !
  16. Further, I live in wide north wales.
  17. Thanks for the replies. Will do some more research, to include that is G5 plug. I live miles from the nearest club who usually stock glow fuel. I know of Weston glow fuel but carriage can be expensive. 4 gallons and it's carriage free, or was, but 4 gallons... Petrol I can get easily. The clunk tanks I think can tolerate petrol but what about the clunk fuel pipe which needs to be flexible for the clunk to "clunk" ? Is the yellow fuel pipe which is petrol tolerant flexible enough ? 18. I though I had asked about this before.... I am on a tight budget, and have in the past bench run a Magnum gp40 glow engine on petrol with about ten to one two stroke oil. From memory it ran quite well but the glow plug was permanently powered. I know you can get glow plug size spark plugs and ignition system. Has anyone experimented with this cheaper and more easily bought fuel ?
  19. Malcolm Fisher, yes please....was making research to find you, in these covid times. I have size 20 feet and didn't want to......... Anyways yes please, thank you, I am very interested... It would be good to home brew as I am on a tight budget and at least 60 miles from a model shop. I doubt d1000 can come thru the post these days, lipo''s can't easily apparently. D1000 is great ( glue sniffers you know nothing, we are the originals....) but expensive, glow fuel seems to be catching up as well. Southport is about 100 miles from me. Thanks for all replies. Stay safe out there. Edited By Rich Griff on 14/01/2021 21:30:06
  20. Car wheel balance weights, stick on, weight marked on them, lead free but similar weight, safer.
  21. I remember traveling to an airshow in Fairford i think it was, from North Wales. Along the way we passed on the left, sitting on some runway which was close to the road, a sad looking Lightening, all graffitied up.   I suggested we should tow it home...😀   Was that Binbrook I wonder and is it still there ?   An other aircraft spotted years ago, coming down the hill into welshpool from the coast. At the roundabout, turn left up the hill towards Guildsfield, the scenery opens up to see the valley and hills in the distance. We saw a really low camouflaged Vulcan pop up and hugging the ground, hedge hopping ? It pulled up and turned 180 degrees and roared off back to balay way, still hedge hopping. What a sight and privilege. It must have been training so as to stay under radar... Edited By Rich Griff on 14/01/2021 10:01:09
  22. I don't think the 500ft rule applied to the Osprey pilot that flew down our valley about 2 years ago. He was low, I mean low, flying from Snowdon direction towards the TV mast, pylons and high voltage cables that cross the valley at that end. I used to live on the coast many years ago and one Sunday afternoon saw the black sr71 is it, the very Fast high altitude reconasance aircraft. It flew down the valley over the bridge quite quietly, then opened the throttles leaving 2 black lines and roared of towards tywyn. From where I was standing he was well below the mountain top horizon, so was well under 500 ft. The Mach loop is a cool place for a free air show.
  23. Thanks for the replies, will do some more research. Trying to find a cheaper way for fuel. Financially restricted.
  24. Anyone using home brew diesel ?   Anyone know where I can get medical castor, medical parraffin, ether and ipn ?   Would 99percent rubbing alcohol be a good substitute for ipn ?   Any chemists on here ?   Will reread the fuel thread as someone mentioned ether less homebrew...
