  1. hi john, i tried this with an early twister, and even though they were on the same xtals i could not get it to mix right, on the early twister you had to down trim the throttle before switching on then switch on and wait for the heli bits to set, i could not replicate this sequence with the ff9, if you try it disconect the main motor wires before switching on or you could end up with a face full of plastic good luck
  2. hi mike, have receved the rib plans from martin, and he has made a few sugested mods to improve the stiletto, i am forever in your debt, phil
  3. heyyyyyy mike your a life saver,,, my email is [email protected] i will be eternaly grateful, has martin designed any other plains, he certainy has a flair for it, the stiletto is a bit different to the run of the mill stuff about, and i like different, thanks again mike
  4. we have a policy at our club, that you dont fly alone, always has to be a minimum 2 people at the field just in case something goes wrong, even if the second person cant fly at least they can use a mobile to call for assistance if needed, all it takes is a prop accross the wrist, and you is fubar
  5. hi les i have the same plane if it is the perkins sea fury, one thing i will say is a 3001 wont cut the mustard, it will work fine on the grund but when it is in the air the side cheeks are acted on by the air flow and it stops them, i would sugest talking to timbo, as for the numbers on servos im not sure if they have some kind of meaning or if they are just manufacturers designation like a part number,
  6. not advisable, the aerial length is tuned to the reciever for optimum reception, i would advice replacement aerial wire of the correct length rather than repair,
  7. been there got the T shirt only mine was stolen from my transit,, house ins didnt cover it cos it not stolen from the house, my shop ins didnt cover it cos it was not shop stock and my van ins didnt cover it cos it was not goods in transit, the police were a waste of space, so im deeply out of pocket, that was over 12 months ago, and heard or seen nothing
  8. thanks tony, i have started to draw up the ribs and other bits that were wrong on the plan, looking forward to making a start just as soon as i have got a few repairs off the building board,, :)
  9. at my club we ahve a similar problem, 12 months ago we capped the membership at 80, and at ths years AGM it was voted to cap it again, i and some others at the club voted against capping of the membership, "as we have a 5 in the air at any one time rule, to my mind it makes no difference to noise if we have 50 or 5000 members" i have seen no more than 5 members at the flying field even on a good day, and the last 2 funfly days were unsuported, some of the older died in the wool members seem to want it kept exclusive, which is a shame, as like you, there are some that are turned away because of this capping of memberships...
  10. if not for the "jap crap" (and other third world countries) as you put it, half of us would be sitting in the pits watching, or not even enjoying the hobby at all, thanks to these underpaid bowl of rice a day grafters, (i kid you not, average wage in the Phillipines for unskilled labour is £2.40 per day,) for a 12 hour shift, and as brendon has noted they are very good at taking someone elses idea and making twice as reliable for half the price, "try buying a uk made anything these days" and if you could the parts for it would be sourced from asia somewhere,
  11. cant wait for my second childhood to start (you know the one women say we men are always going through) still having my first at 52, anyone know when the second normaly kicks in, is it normaly around the male menapause period or senility, i dont want to miss out :)
  12. local weather report is saying the weather is supposed to get better and hotter by the weekend, i remember sitting in traffic on my way to bookers one morning, and the radio says "its warm and sunny in shrewsbury today", and im sitting there with me wippers going full pelt and me headlights on, an im screaming at the radio, "get orf your fat lazy r's and look out the window",
  13. theory into practice,, as i have mentioned earlier in the thread, i have a plane, a floaty foamy bipe,, i also have a trex heli, now then, i keep to the same lipos in both craft, the plane lipo which is very rarely flown at full chat for fear of pulling the wings off will still charge to 95% of its claimed capacity, the heli lipo is a different story, with the throttle set for optimum head speed, it is now down to around 85% of its capacity and this is the second lipo pack as the frst one lost its bottle, to my mind this supports timbos case that the more you hammer it the faster it breaks, "its lojical jim" (see guys im taking it all in and learning).
  14. i have been in the motor trade all my life, and have to say that geronimo and pete are giving realy sound advice, i always tell people, keep your engine runing on what it is used to, i know people that have chopped and changed there fuel like there socks, just because someone recomends something different, and have spent more time tuning and re-tuning there engines, i have used model technics contest 10 with all my engines from the word go, start with one fuel and stick with it,

now that a good question, im hoping to but that depends on SWMBO,, normaly she would be all for it but our little girl is due anytime soon so i may have to give it a miss, phil
  17. gws certainly works with a futaba xtal and vice versa, gws xtals work fine in futaba, but hitec rx will only work with a htec xtal phil
  18. i was just pulling your chains guys, i have been following your exploits , i do have an ultrafy outrage with a brushless/lipo set up, and a trex heli, i read somewhere in one of the mags somewhere, either RCM&E or FLYER not to take too much notice of the C rating as it is only a manufacturers hype to max possible output, i was the first to answer the thread, i said then my knowledge was limited, it aint a lot less limited now, i always ask "Electric Ken" at the flying field whats the best to go with what, but im learning group hug guys phil
  19. i had a ripmax reflection that did exactly the same thing, on my model there was a plastic section in the middle where the bands go, and it snapped off right up against that, but i have to admit the previous flight it had a tad heavy landing, ( into the side of a 90 ft diamater slurry tank ) they always build these things in the wrong place, anyway i think it must have weekend it in some way, phil
  20. Hi gordon, most of the schools i think advertise in RCM&E, but i assume you have checked in there, As has been sugested many times on this forum have you considered a flight sim, they are great for practicing when you have a few spare minutes, (thats if you can get the kids off it) phil
  21. Think i will stick with the IC a little (lot) longer, phil
  22. i consider myself a pretty good builder, (i have to be), so after great deliberation, i think my most memerable "fubar" was with a kit built Cesna, after a couple of weeks away i ventured up the club, got all set up, did the SMART thing and set her off down the runway, the MDS 58 pawing at the air, (not the best choice of engine but i have three kids and on a budget), she lifts a wheel, "just the one", so i gave her a bit of back stick and right aileron, and the right wing lifts some more, give her more right aileron, then more, then full right rudder, it was at this point i realised the left wing was not going to come up so i shut the power at which point the left wing dug into the grass at the side of the runway, then the engine, then the right wing tip then the rudder, as she cartwheels across the grass and slams into the side of a building, "Cheers and applause from the pits), picked up the bits and back at the pits, i noticed some black spots on the inside of the wing covering, (mouldy) i peel it back to find the balsa on the left wing was soaking wet and further peeling back i found the three outer most bays between the ribs were full to the brim with water, there had been a small split in the covering that i had taped over, and during my two weeks away it rained pretty heavily and my shed roof had leaked, didn't need a bucket, the cesna had soaked it up throught the split in the covering, phil
  23. Hmmm??? solar powered torch eh,, about as much use as an ashtray on a motorbike
  24. i am a recent member on here, i own a general store, with a small model shop alongside, my wife is about to give birth in the next four weeks, i work 13 hrs a day 7 days a week, i dont have any time for building or flying at the moment, this is the closest i can get to the hobby for the time being and i have found it very informative " there are some clever people on hear with a wealth of experience, as well as being able to share some of mine i am learning from theres, and a bit of friendly banter makes it all the more fun, and to me that is what this hobby is all about, fun fun fun,,,,, thank you RCM&E phil
  25. we have lots of the old issues at the club hut, i will check at the weekend jakes see if there is a copy there, will gladly send it you if there is phil
